#BellaNaijaWCW Funmi Oyatogun of TVP Adventures is Designing Nature Learning & Leadership Experiences for Underserved Kids
For our #BellaNaijaWCW feature this week, we spotlight Funmi Oyatogun and the work she’s doing with TVP Adventures and Wahamba!
Funmi, in 2016, noticed a gap in the travel industry in Nigeria and Africa – there were few budget packages that offered all-inclusive itineraries and adventures to allow Africans explore Africa. She decided to start a company to close the gap.
TVP Adventures organises group tours, custom trips, honeymoons, retreats and other adventures around Nigeria and Africa. It takes care of the hassles of planning for trips, as well as sell adventure travel packages for budget travellers.
TVP Adventures has planned and executed trips to over 50 locations in Nigeria and Africa.
Funmi is a trained geographer and environmental educator and she uses her experience to design adventurous and creative travel opportunities for people.
Most notable of her work is what she’s doing through Wahamba, an NGO which provides outdoor learning and leadership experiences for under-served teens.
Wahamba, since 2017, has organised two camp meetings for teenagers. Tagged Open Your Heart Camp, the 2017 edition took teenagers on a slavery tour in the Badagry area of Lagos.
In 2018, Funmi and the Wahamba team took 26 autistic teens on a day of exploration of nature for its “Explorers with a Difference” edition of its Open Your Heart Camp meeting.
Funmi received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Colorado – Boulder and a Master’s Degree from the University of Edinburgh.
We celebrate Funmi and her team, for catering to the underserved population, especially kids, and giving them a life-changing experience.
