Burna Boy is one of the two Nigerian music stars announced as part of the lineup for the 2019 Coachella Music Festival.

The music star is however not about to reduce his worth. He went on Instagram this morning to call out the Coachella organizers for listing his name in a small print. He also asked them to “fix things quick please”.

The post has since been deleted from his Instagram Stories.

Coachella’s arrangement of the artist lineup is a tradition they have had for several years. The arrangement starts with the headliner and then other artists are listed in decreasing font. According to their official Wikipedia page, it is done in descending order of prominence.

Was it on Instagram you got contracted to perform at Coachella? What will it cost you to channel your grievances through the same process you both have been communicating up till now?

People – this is not acceptable behaviour. Folks have lost job openings and contract opportunities because of this sort of unnecessary attitude. It’s 2019 – let’s do better.

i am with you on this actually. on the one hand, i don’t think he is asking for much really. If the font decreases based on coachella’s perceived prominence of the artist then he should have a bigger font – coachella is comparing him to other american musicians etc but he is not america, he is Nigerian, from a different continent, whilst his career isn’t on par with headliners, he has to be doing something right for them to have noticed him, so show him that respect. The problem is you cannot have a system that “font decreases based on prominence of the musician” if all the musicians are not from the same place.. This can only work with American artist. I imagine outside of that, other musicians would have a problem with this also. Now, is this the best way to address this? No, but I like to think Burna Boy has more common sense and aside from the social media call out (which is also necessary) , he is handling it professionally , *sigh* that this is actually a debate in 2019 boggles the mind, that i am partaking in it is even more worrying. lol.

Well Burna boy did speak out because that was his pain however, being enlighten beforehand is another thing.

If he had read Wikipedia’s page, perhaps he would not have made such comment and thanks Bella for pointing this out. at least Burna BOY now knows it is a tradition.
