Dr Abimbola Banu-Ogundere launches ‘The Right Teacher’, A Book that speaks About the Quality of Education

It was an exciting day as we launched the world best selling educational book ‘The Right Teacher’ authored by Dr. Abimbola Banu- Ogundere.

The Right Teacher’ is a book for educators, policymakers, parents and everyone who teaches. Every profession can attest to the impact of the 21st Century teacher as they, in no small measure, influence the quality of teaching available to children. This, in turn, leads to the improvement of learning outcomes for the Nigerian Child and indeed the securing of Nigeria’s future.

The book was officially launched on October 12th, 2019 at the Canada Water Library and Theatre, London, United Kingdom, and event hosted by UK-based, Brains & Banter hosts.

In Nigeria, we witnessed the official presentation of ‘The Right Teacher’ book to the public amid a conversation on “Teacher Quality & National Development’, on November 14th, 2019. The event took place at Radisson Blu, Victoria Island Lagos and it was a very well curated event attended by many remarkable professionals in the education sector.

Spotted at the event were notable dignitaries from the Lagos State government namely the Honourable, Commissioner for Education, Folashade Adefisayo, DG office of Quality Assurance, Biola Seriki-Ayeni and representatives from Lagos SUBEB

The Senior Partner, TLcom Capital and former Minister for Communication and Technology, Omobola Johnson as well as education veteran and reformer, Alero Ayida- Otobo were also in attendance.

Family, friends and Key stakeholders in the education sector were also present to witness what was indeed a remarkable book presentation as well as a stimulating, insightful and impactful panel session centered on ‘The Nigerian Teacher’s Journey to Qualitative Practice’ moderated by the eloquent compere of the day, Dr. Amaka Momah- Haruna.

The Keynote address was delivered by the MD, The Education Partnership Centre, Dr. Modupe Adefeso-Olateju. From the wealth of her experience and research, she shared very valuable insights into the education sector in Nigeria. There were short and engaging readings of two excerpts of the book by two renowned Nigerian educators, Chiazor Chukwulobe and Folake Salau.

Prayers for the book were led by Pastor Godman Akinlabi, the Lead Pastor of one of the fastest-growing churches in Lagos, Nigeria; Elevation church and who is also passionate about reform in the Education sector.

The book was eventually unveiled for presentation by Omobola Johnson amidst a roar of applause and celebration by the audience of the author, Dr. Abimbola Ogundere.

The author also took a few minutes to explain her motivations around writing the book and the impact that she hopes it would make with the support of everyone in the room. She re-emphasized the fact that The Right Teacher book is for everyone who shares information with the aim of empowering the next person. She also spoke of the need for reform within the “Nigerian -Teacher” ecosystem as a nation is only as great as the quality of education it provides her citizens. She implored all stakeholders present to become advocates for education.

Other guests who graced the stage included business mogul and mentor to the author, Tara Fela- Durotoye, leading Nigerian Oncologist, Dr. Adedayo Joseph, and co-founder, Maryiamville medical centre, Dr. Simisola Ajasa all of whom shared their insights not only of the book but of the author’s passion and commitment to reform in the education sector.

In all, it was a wonderful event and we look forward to the success of The Right Teacher book.
