On Tuesday, the NAACP Image Awards nominations were announced, and we have a lot of nominees to root for during this year’s ceremony. The 53rd Annual NAACP Awards will be hosted by Anthony Anderson and will air live on Saturday, February 26. Viewers can also stream live on BET+. It will proceed without an in-person audience due to COVID.

To everyone’s delight, Nigerian music icons Wizkid, Fireboy DML, Tiwa Savage, and Omah Lay were nominated for “Outstanding International Song”, while Tems received her first nomination for “Outstanding New Artist” for her 2021 album “If Orange Was A Place.” In other historic news, “Eyimofe (This Is My Desire)” has received its first NAACP nomination for “Outstanding International Motion Picture.” Not only that, but it was the first and only Nigerian film to be nominated in that category.

“The BET team is immensely proud to continue our partnership with the NAACP and the annual Image Awards, underpinning our longstanding legacy of celebrating black excellence,” added BET president and CEO Scott Mills. It is an extraordinary privilege to provide our unparalleled platforms to recognize the vast contributions of black creators in a way that only BET and NAACP can.
