why am i scared that girls will take this competition to the next level?
ex: children of “God” refusing to pose half nude… girls going to dibia’s to win… lol!! i cant wait for it to air

  • Ladi January 16, 2009 at 12:37 am

They’ll def not pose nude because of censorship especially if they even want to air in West Africa where many countries are A LOT more conservative and stricter than Nigeria (antm stopped nude shots too) As for going to dibia, Imams, or Pastors, we’ll see…….

  • Sam January 16, 2009 at 3:54 am

I’m xcited about this concept n will definitely watch it.The only problem i have is i don’t understand y with all the fab girls in west africa, n the show bein shot in west africa y they feel the need to scout in London n NY.

  • dez January 16, 2009 at 3:57 am

    ?

  • Ladi January 16, 2009 at 4:43 am

thats a good point because even america’s next top model doesn’t go to the sahara to look for american women to scout….goodluck to the show sha

  • bebee January 16, 2009 at 6:36 pm

oh my fucking goodness!!!why do they have to go and scout for girls in london and NY!!! dont they have girls located in W/Africa!!!geez!!any west african outside of africa who wants to participate should buy a ticket and come for auditions…geez!!i was totally with this idea but this is screwed!

  • Banke January 16, 2009 at 6:43 pm

Because we are west africans too and everybody knows that it is the diasporean naija girls that run tings. Like it or lump it!

  • bebee January 16, 2009 at 6:58 pm

in your mind…anyway from your comment everybody can see that you are not enlightened!!!cest finnit

  • chioma January 16, 2009 at 9:36 pm

i am so pissed…the whole point is to feature the W.Africa’s beauties… in WEST AFRICA. What do they mean going to NY to scout gurls..like they arent any beautiful, well spoken girls in W.Africa, see Oluchi…abeg oh i am vexing…

  • Trendy January 16, 2009 at 11:27 pm

There is absolutely nothing wrong with going to london & NY to scout. The competition is for models of West African origin, so everyone interested needs to be given an opportunity, regardless of where they reside.

What’s wrong girl, afraid of a little competition?

  • Abi January 16, 2009 at 11:39 pm

‘What’s wrong girl, afraid of a little competition?’

Trendy, well spoken. What exactly is the rationale behind not picking west african girls from locations other than west africa. Why are naija girls sooooo ‘bitchititive’.

  • Banke! January 16, 2009 at 11:45 pm

bebee, funny girl! I said we run tings, you are saying I’m not enlightened. What concerns enlightenment and running tings. We bring it. Fact! We make for an interesting watch. Fact! Abi didn’t you watch apprentice africa.

Okay, on a serious note though. What are your objections exactly?

  • Ladi January 17, 2009 at 12:20 am

Being in the diaspora means you run things? After hustling for green card/ odd jobs (btw if you had a comfy white collar job you probably won’t be trying to be scouted for modeling).

    Colonial mentality unfortunately.

  • Banke! January 17, 2009 at 12:50 am

No, you’re still not getting it. We run tings just because. I didn’t have to hustle for jack. I am. I have an above average average paying job here and run tings in Naij. I aint tryna be a model, that ain’t my line.

Your ego on the other hand is feeding off stereotypes. Odd jobs? Hahaha! Green card? What for, in the UK?

I don’t really want to go there but, need I remind you that most of the girls running tings in Naij are returnees or those who have been through the western system bar a few e.g. the Tosyn Bucknors’, Linda Ikejis’ and Lola Os’. Shall I enumerate the returnees blowing up the fashion, marketing, ‘white collar’ scenes, the bellas, the tigertems, the toni paynes, the TMs, the talabis’. They ain’t doing no’ sleep-with-ten-men-for-one-account banking jobs…Puhleeez, don’t make me talk jo!

  • shaki January 17, 2009 at 12:52 am

    Ladi,lol!true true
    Banke’s remark is so childish
    diasporean naija girls run things!!
    LMAO..what does that even mean..
some people are so full of themselves because their parents scrapped together some money to send them abroad…the same ones that will go to 9ja and be spending and showing off their hard earned minimum wage money

am a yankee 9ja girl o..i dont know what things you girls r running..well maybe me i roll with d dry crowd abi
LMAO…u run things!!!!lol ..lol and more lol

  • cee cee January 17, 2009 at 12:55 am

Stupid comment by Ladi…I think it was a cutesy stmt like ” bring it on!!!” Pls chill….its like someone that lives outside Nigeria saying after “catching Okada, sleeping with bank boys and aristos..” or some of the other things that happen in niaj… a lot of students were on ANTM…Nigerians can be irritating….I know what i am talking about b/c I have lived in niaj and NY and all u babes are the same….pick the adjective and it applies…nice, stupid, educated, goldgiggers…..

  • shaki January 17, 2009 at 12:58 am

banke pls go suck a lemon….seriously!
which Tosin bucknor or linda ikeji!!those girls were educated in Nigeria!
You sound so silly and childish…
blah..blahh…we r running the fashion industry..the talabi’s blah ..blah…have u fucking listened to yourself!since u are keeping tabs on who is a returnee and is running things..u must really be desperate to be one of them…you better quit your more than paying average job and audition for WANTM..so that you too can run things….

  • me January 17, 2009 at 1:03 am

I havent read any comment as daft as Banke’s.damn!people still think like that.what are you 17 yrs old?
@ ceeceee i almost want to be upset with you, but i think you finished of the argument nicely!!various girls in diff locations fit in with the adjectives you used

  • Ladi January 17, 2009 at 3:00 am

Cee Cee, I’m in the diaspora attending college! I just said it wasn’t okay to say being in the diaspora meant ‘running things’

  • lorile January 17, 2009 at 7:00 am

i really dont understand the first part of your comment!!makes no sense..maybe the typos or ??

the last bit is so true! so true

  • Chika January 17, 2009 at 8:27 am

You are so right! What’s with coming to NY and London! With all the hot chics in Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, etc! NY and London doesn’t qualify as West African countries!

  • dez January 17, 2009 at 1:10 pm

i see a lot of bitchiness goin on here but lets not forget about the important point! my view is the competition should be about west african girls n everything should be done in west africa.
girls who live in the uk for instance have the advantage of bein in competitions like miss black britain which will include girls from any heritage.
i just think this should be thought out properly and everyone given a fair chance.
its about west africa auditions should be in diff parts of west africa.

  • coco January 17, 2009 at 1:56 pm

ok people you guys are fighting about the casting in London and NY, well my main concern is that the rest of African countries are not included. why is that? does that mean that other countries can’t produce qualified models?. i feel and think that it should be a celebration for all whole Africa whether from the east, west , north and south of Africa
we don’t need to separate ourselves just because of what ever part of Africa you come from. i really think that the whole concept needs to be reveiwed once more, Ok if they cast in London and NY then they should also come to Toronto Canada where most of models are born.
and it doesn’t really matter where you are located, once an African, always an African.

  • africanbabe January 17, 2009 at 4:33 pm

u Africans r full o shit……its a competitions between the girls not the countries…this is y Africa is still behind. Work 2gether and stop competing against each other

  • mini January 17, 2009 at 5:14 pm

African babe…just like your family is full of shit too!

  • lari gaga January 17, 2009 at 6:27 pm

  • Ajo January 17, 2009 at 10:27 pm

‘Bar a few’ means with ‘exception’ of a few. Before you start correcting someone’s English, be sure of what you are talking about. And you using the ‘blaadclat’ language and all that, aren’t you just the same as Banke. Hmphf!

Wherever they screen sha, I hope we get to see some clips. Bella, pwetty pwease.

  • Olicious January 18, 2009 at 2:23 am

Most of you on this site make me laugh. the reason they are going to NY and Jand to scout is to increase the drama factor. Look what just happened right here on the comment section between the people who think they “run things” because they live in jand and the Nigerians back home. Imagine what it will be like on the show with the different girls, the reason most reality shows do well is coz of the drama factor. Like ANTM here in USA, we will always remember the Bre’s, Jade’s and the Bianca’s.I personally look forward to the show premiere hopefully it is just as good and drama packed!

  • iloveme January 18, 2009 at 7:37 pm

Exactly!! Just in a twinkle of on an eye, drama just sprung here. And that’s what would keep people watching the show.
I can’t wait for the show either!! I hope is double drama :)

  • mini January 18, 2009 at 8:24 pm

    Olicious!!lol..true talk

  • jomo January 18, 2009 at 8:27 pm

    Adunni o!!Lol
i was going to reply to banke!but i see you have done that justice

    run things sa-duh!stupid gal

  • cee cee January 19, 2009 at 4:29 pm

they are going to have an East African, a south African and bla bla….It says that I believe????

  • cee cee January 19, 2009 at 4:31 pm

lol…I was just saying that you should not generalize and/or sterotype….

  • cee cee January 19, 2009 at 4:33 pm

ps: was against everyone dissing Banke at first but she has shown that she is in fact a RAZZ fool…

  • Banke January 19, 2009 at 5:47 pm

Gbenu e! See your mouth like ‘Razz fool’. So-lo-cal! Feeling like a star… Anywayz. once a street girl, always…

Ahhhh! Exciting post. Again, D-girls will bring it and I will come back and tell you ‘I tol’ you so’.

  • Dami January 19, 2009 at 5:51 pm

I really don’t get what the problem is with WANTM coming to scout girls in London and NY?? Aren’t girls of West African origin living outside west Africa allowed the opportunity of a lifetime as well???
Nigerians sha! Selfishness is not good its not always about us us us! Jeez! Open your arms and your mind a little! Even our very own Nnenna was on ANTM! And ANTM and the rest don’t need to go and scout in other places because majority of their citizens live in their country…y’all know a very ginormous portion of Nigerians live abroad…mostly in London and New York…..it’s all about giving everyone a fair chance..it doesn’t take anything away from the show at all

And Banke don’t mind them jare! Big ups to all the nig ladies in naija doing it big but ,Yes bbes in diaspora run tings! i speak for myself sha and no ceecee, its not cuz my parents managed to send me abroad or about d money we make…we jus do! lol

  • Banke January 19, 2009 at 5:53 pm

Eyaa, sweetie don’t give yourself a cardiac o! I am catching jokes here, you ought to do the same. BUT, we’ll still bring it sha.

As for all the other blurb about ‘ignorant’, ‘your type’, ‘posse’ lol, are you for real? It got to you that bad?

  • binti January 19, 2009 at 6:11 pm

banke like everyone else has a right to their opinion. However, i do not think its not necessary to go scout for girls in other locations..If anyone in anywhere in d world is west african they should come to west africa for the auditions

While i am a naija girl in the diaspora..i really want to know how ‘we’ run things. Is it because we were sent abroad?does that make us better?or because of our newly acquired accents? if we run things, then why do we need to come to naija to run the things..we can as well stay in jand, yankee or wherever and run things..why do we run home every xmas to come and have fun!

  • niola January 19, 2009 at 6:14 pm

Banke you need to take a chill pill

  • adunni January 19, 2009 at 9:29 pm

    yeah..catching jokes indeed..
    jokes ON you “sweety”
    adunni

  • cee cee January 19, 2009 at 11:35 pm

    lol

  • cee cee January 19, 2009 at 11:38 pm

Ceecee never said anything about parents or money abeg!!!

  • cee cee January 19, 2009 at 11:41 pm

    Exactly Olicious!!!
But on a serious note, I think this conversation about niaja girls in Nigeria vs those in the diaspora is quite silly. I always say that those who are looking for who they are better than are obviously losers. I know girls who “run things” everywhere in the world. I also know some wack girls. The thing should just be that u are a great person no matter where u are. Lets stop this loser mentality and hope that they get great girls and the show is well produced.

  • ladi January 20, 2009 at 12:19 am

    case closed!

  • desire January 20, 2009 at 1:29 am

@ Dami as u say a big proportion of nigerians live outside in london n NY but is this show not abt the whole of west africa?i beleive there’s other countries involved in that n if u’re not too sure refer to ur geography notes………

  • Jenna akindele January 20, 2009 at 1:20 pm

I WENT TO AUDITION FOR THE LONDON AUDITION AND BOI OH BOI…. IT WAS SO…. UNORGANISED AND ONLY APPROXIMATELY 10 GIRLS SHOWED UP….. IN MY OWN OPINION…. NONE OF THE GIRLS WERE MODEL MATTERIAL… I NEVER STAYED HAD TO WALK… TO ME IT WAS JUST A JOKE… TYPICAL AFRICAN STANDARDS… THE JUDGES WERE JUST ANY PEOPLE, NO INTRODUCTION OR NOTHING AND DIDN’T NO WHAT THEY WERE LOOKING FOR… THERE WAS A WHOLE LEAP OF AFRICAN MEN PERVING OVER THE GIRLS IN THEIR BIKKINI’S (THEY HAD NO MEANS OF BEING THERE). THERE WAS A PARTICULAR GIRL WHO LOOKED LIKE SHE WOULD BE IN A MUSIC VIDEO BECOZ OF HER BIG BUTTY AND THE JUDGES WHERE GIVING HER PRAISE, THAT MADE ME BELIEVE THAT THEY WHERE LOOKING FOR TACKY VIDEO TYPE GIRLS AND NOT CLASSY SLENDER MODEL MATERIAL GIRLS, LIKE MYSELF AND ANOTHER GIRL THAT WAS THERE.

THEIR LOSS ANYWAY… THIS IS WHY AFRICANS AND BLACK PEOPLE NEVER GET RECOGNISED IN THE INDUSTRY COS BLACK PEOPLE… ESPECIAL AFRICANS LACK SPOTTING POTENTIAL, QUALITY AND UNIQUENESS… NEVER DOING BUSINESS WITH BLACK PEOPLE AGAIN… IVE JUST BEEN SIGNED BY A BRITISH MODEL AGENCY….. GOD IS GOOD… WHEN ONE DOOR SHUTS ANOTHER DOOR OPENS……

IF YOUR OWN PEOPLE DON’T EXCEPT YOU, TRY OTHERS

  • dgi January 20, 2009 at 7:26 pm

was it that bad:( i was planning on going to the NYC auditions.

  • Kpakpando January 20, 2009 at 9:42 pm

dgi, please don’t let one person’s (or 1000 people’s for that matter) perception change your plans. I wasn’t in London, so I’m not speaking to Jenna’s feedback at all, but even if it’s disorganized, who is to say that you won’t be able to take something positive from the experience.

Good luck at the audition/casting call.

  • jomo January 21, 2009 at 3:25 am

    Nigerians are so disorganized
    that aside,so u are the epitome of a model..pele o!slender n all abi?
anyway if you dont blow your own trumpet who will?
    Jenna kan!London kan-lol

  • Zaama January 21, 2009 at 11:15 am

Haba… try not to make blanket statements about ‘black people’, especially since you happen to be one of them. Do you “LACK SPOTTING POTENTIAL, QUALITY AND UNIQUENESS”? No? Well, according to you, black people do, so you’re tarred with the same brush, my dear. How would you feel if someone said they’d never work with you just because you’re black? Sorry things went badly for you at this audition, and please accept my warmest congratulations on getting signed, I hope you have a great career with the ‘white people’.

  • Zaama January 21, 2009 at 11:17 am

    Well said cee cee!

  • Zaama January 21, 2009 at 11:21 am

WELL SAID! I have to applaud you, adunni, you have away with words and you certainly put her in her place. She can continue ranting like a lunatic if she so desires.

  • Estella January 22, 2009 at 4:43 pm

exactly! And if she was picked, would be be dissing the event so? Sore-loser I think she just is!

Please dgi, go to the NY audition, unless you have no confidence in yourself….

With jenna’s attitude, I wouldnt pick her either! Being a model is NOT all about having the ‘so-called shape and thinking you are all that! Hasn’t she been watching America’s Next Top Model? Where Tyra dumps those that think they all dat, and have no time to take corrections and learn from them?
And Tocarra is a perfect example on ANTM that you DONT have to be skinny to make it as a model!
    Enuff Said!

  • Estella January 22, 2009 at 4:49 pm

    True dat.
See ‘Apprentice Africa’…they scouted for Africans all over the world, and we had tension and drama on the show!

That a franchised show is tagged with ‘Africa’ dont mean those Africans in Diaspora should not have a chance as well.

You would all be surprised the talent and creativity those living in Africa would give those that come in from Jand and Yankee! It is a Modeling Contest, not a jand or Yankee accent event…..and Africa is doing well when it comes to modeling and fashion these days anyway…

  • Banke January 29, 2009 at 12:53 pm

Have the last word baby. It’s on me.

  • Banke January 29, 2009 at 1:03 pm

Nowt to do with accents, westernisation or association with caucasians or the like really. I don’t know why everyone automatically thinks of those things… complex maybe? To me sha, it’s a bit like an northerner saying northern girls are the hottest in Naij and being called a tribalist. When ol boy is just stating facts from his POV.

Do you really go to Naij every xmas to have fun? I don’t. Far too many other places to be explored…

  • SC February 3, 2009 at 10:15 am

You sound bitter…and why are you so negative towards Africa? I think you can comment on a lack of organisation without being vindictive towards anything black or African…”THIS IS WHY AFRICANS AND BLACK PEOPLE NEVER GET RECOGNISED IN THE INDUSTRY COS BLACK PEOPLE… ESPECIAL AFRICANS LACK SPOTTING POTENTIAL, QUALITY AND UNIQUENESS… NEVER DOING BUSINESS WITH BLACK PEOPLE AGAIN…”…that is just too much.

  • A.P February 17, 2009 at 11:30 pm

damn y’all need to chill. Kai.. But I like that BN doesn’t regulate these comments. Enough drama :D

  • ItWasMe June 21, 2011 at 11:32 am

Well…I’m guessing they are going to London and New York, as opposed to maybe Milan or Oslo, because they are aware of that there is a considerable West African population in those cities. In these cities there’s a better chance of finding West African girls, who meet the global perception of beauty, that are already modeling. In London and New York, drop dead gorgeous girls ( of African, Asian, and South American backgrounds) are turned down because they do not have the “in” look (European).
