The Bella Naija style page launched the reader based feature; My Style last week, and am glad that we have another fashion fab reader to feature today!

If you will like to be featured on this page, simply send two pictures of yourself or that of a friend depicting a typical Day and Night Look with a short summary of your style to my mail box: ijeoma.ndekwu@bellanaija.com

When your entry is approved, you will be required to send in more pictures and personal commentaries on your style or that of your friend as the case may be!

Keep the mails coming; lets celebrate our love for our style!!!!

Bellanaija reader and fashion blogger Oyeyemi Wemi-Akinsola gives us an insight into her one of a kind style made possible by a closet full of all things vintage!!!

WHY DO YOU LOVE YOUR STYLE:

I love my style because I feel it is unique. I particularly love vintage, I guess the idea that no one else has what I’m wearing really fascinates me. Also, vintage is really affordable and it never goes out of fashion, so, it’s a win-win situation.

The only thing annoying about vintage is looking through the pile of rubbish to find something with potential so because of this I’ve decided to start an online vintage store with my sister and my friend to help ease vintage shopping, for others at least. My blog would have more information on this in a few weeks.

Visit Oye’s Blog here:

WHERE DO YOU SHOP?

- Vintage stores: Camden market, Brick Lane market.

- ROKIT online store. Visit here

- Topshop. Visit here

- ASOS. Visit here

- American Apparel. Visit here

MAKE UP:

During the Day I like to keep it simple with a bit of eyeliner, mascara and lip gloss.

I love really dark smoky eyes when I am going out. Channeling my inner goth I guess…lol. On days when I don’t have really dark eyes, I like to use bright coloured lipsticks like red and pink, I particularly love ruby woo and girl about town by MAC.

HAIR:

When it comes to weaves I love really full long wavy hair, I always used to have a side parting but now I have a centre parting a lot more often.

With my real hair I like it to keep it short and straight.

However, I prefer weaves because they are easier to maintain. Once I wash it its as good as new. I can only speak for the brand I use though.

Like Oye’s weave indian remy hair ?

DAY LOOK:

My day look ranges from skirts to jeans to tees to jumpers to dresses. It’s basically anything I feel comfortable in at that point in time. The only thing I would say is constant about my style is the vintage feel to it.

I also do a bit of DIY with some of my old clothes to make them look more fashionable.

A pair of old jeans I bleached and a plain t-shirt I shredded.

I also love accessories, from bags to sunglasses to shoes to jewellery to belts to headbands…the list goes on…

DATE LOOK:

I think this picture below captures what a date look for me would look like. It is very fashionable but at the same time its reserved.

NIGHT LOOK:

My night look consists mostly of vintage dresses and high-waisted skirts. My studded belt always seems to make a regular appearance as well. I adore that belt so much I pray it never spoils. Occasionally I wear jeans or trousers.

That’s pretty much what my style entails….VINTAGE. Hope you enjoyed reading through!!! xxx…..virgoslounge…xxx

oh wow i love her style!!! uber cool…the yellow leather skirt and the tartan blazer are the hotness! amongst other things…might be inspired to try some vintage pieces myself.

    loves it!

  • tomi February 21, 2009 at 2:18 pm

Our people can be really backward! The comments about vintage not being “regular, everyday clothes”. Are ignorant beyond belief.

  • tomi February 21, 2009 at 2:22 pm

I think people are defending the girls right to be an individual. That isnt a popular concept in naij, but Im hoping it will catch on.

    STOP BEING SHEEP LADIES!

  • Eva February 21, 2009 at 5:42 pm

Normal clothes? Really? Isnt that boring? Life is TOO short to LOOK normal.

  • Eva February 21, 2009 at 5:44 pm

TOTALLY AGREE…like I said in the first My style…it was just too much going on and you lose what her SENSE of style really is…there is no focus. But this one..I LIKE…very unique…

  • Olicious February 21, 2009 at 7:30 pm

When I said normal I didnt mean blah. I meant like regular jeans and t-shirt with a twist… u know somethign everyone does, but you do it EXTRA! I still love it tho!

  • Trendy February 21, 2009 at 9:20 pm

love it, there is a sameness in look in Nigeria that is boring. Love this, and vintage ain’t cheap, so respect.

  • mal prince February 22, 2009 at 6:51 pm

    hilarious u are!!!

  • Mamasita Diva February 22, 2009 at 9:36 pm

NOW THIS IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!!!!!! INDIVIDUALITY = STYLE!!!!!!!

    You know your fabulous Honey!!

    Luvs It!!!!

  • mal prince February 22, 2009 at 10:58 pm

well said…end off!!!!!! you shut down the Player Hater -Hers!!!!!

  • Kpakpando February 23, 2009 at 12:53 am

This chick has hot legs sha. She makes me want to pull out my stirrup pants, but I bet I’d look like hot garbage wearing them now.

IMO I think Oye needs to loose the weave, she looks so much more ; stunning with the shorter do (or maybe that because it’s worn straight), the mass of hair is hiding her pretty face.

  • Dorah February 23, 2009 at 2:56 am

Dude, I agree. She’s so cute and has awesome style. She tone down on the back-breaking weave. Her real hair (which is super duper healthly and awesome looking, btw) makes her look younger and fresh. The Beyonce weave is hella generic.

  • Dorah February 23, 2009 at 2:57 am

I meant she SHOULD tone down…and her hair is super duper healthy looking.

  • emi February 23, 2009 at 4:28 am

men that weave no make am o…in my own eyes sa!!

  • Candysour February 23, 2009 at 8:02 am

    Haaaaaaaaaaaaa
getting your friends to come and support you and big you up is SOOOOOOOOOO not a good look.

this here is a damn hot mess….looks “tries too hard to be different ALWAYS”
Ive seen better vintage looks on others…
vintage is something that if you are into it,you INTEGRATE it into your everyday wardrobe etc….
not wearing it everyday..HABA…what are you doing?PLAYING COSTUME,DRESS UP EVERYDAY OF YOUR LIFE?
    Anyway,what do i know?
there is vintage and there IS vintage..

funny how some are saying she is not boring cus its not something you see people do all the time…THATS exactly what makes her look boring…THIS isnt something that gets prettier everyday…it loses its UNIQUENESS…

    and as for the hair??
    catdanggggg
    LOSE IT FAST..
    how much does it weigh??

  • Elle Woods February 23, 2009 at 7:59 pm

naija folks…..why u hating on the girl? Apart from the weave, im loving her pieces. Like her i definitely prefer vintage as opposed to shopping at chain stores and u end up wearing the same outfit with every other girl out there. And its not like she looks a hot mess, she is rocking the outfits. And pls..the whole idea of vintage is dated. If she wanted to wear something modern, she wouldn’t be wearing vintage now would she?
And no..im not her friend or homie..just a fellow vintage connoisseur

  • randommer February 23, 2009 at 8:22 pm

i just lost all my comments, hiss.

In short I said lose the weave – too young to be aping beyawnce lol

also dont copy and paste like you did with the green and white combo and the blue dress. it looks so dated like something my mom would wear back in the day. save it for the throwback parties or perhaps that is indeed what you did.

i like the vintage/retro twists on stuff that is on trend right now. like the blazers, the olive pants and the silver pants. skinny jeans, metallics, print tees and the boyfriend blazer are on trend right now, but this isnt something you just go to forever 21 or H&M or wherever and just pull off. Furthemore the pieces themselves while trendy now are still a classic vintage/retro look for when they go off trend. Bravo

    bob-ij I see you.

  • Vivlad February 24, 2009 at 11:08 pm

Just curious, Bella, how do you select ur choice.Again, just curious.

  • shedon'tneedH2O February 26, 2009 at 2:09 pm

As a vintage lover myself and not one of oye’s friends.I believe the chic has a good eye for some cute vintage pieces. It’s understandable that naija girls in naija don’t rock vtg its not the norm. You have to be pretty cool to pull vtg off.Not everyone wants to leave their house looking like they stepped out of a topshop advert.Variety is the spice of life, creating an individual look for yourself is even better. You don’t have to match the fabric of your dress, shoes and bag to feel fabulous.Oye abeg rock your gear, vtg rules hands down.

  • oyeyemi February 28, 2009 at 10:24 pm

    wow…….thanks for all the comments…:-)…xxx

  • mississippi March 11, 2009 at 12:16 am

HEY! HEY HEY! Whay it wrong with all you folks??? You see a fellow Naija sister doing her thing and all you do is hate…why do you retarded scumbags not take a look at ya ugly selves. To the IDIOT that said she tries too hard….u are most certainly DAFT because some people jus have it and as she appears and from her interview if you can READ, she just puts stuff together. Ur hating because you wish you could actually have an eye for putting stuff together. She is comfortable with vintage doesn’t mean she has to conform to what you NUMSKULLS will adhere to…QUIT BEING JEALOUS and APPRECIATE someone who is doing her thing and is recognised by others. YES….Ur probably looking for attention and you are so deprived you OPEN your smelling mouths to diss this beatiful sister. She ROCKS these clothes, hair, shoe and make-up so effortlessly and she does not give a flying f*£$ if you THINK IN YOUR OWN SAD WORLD that she is overdoing it…DULLARD? Know the difference between a naturally fashionable girl i.e. Oye and someone who tries but always looks a mess i.e YOU. Before you make a comment show us your picture so we know you have become a FASHIONISTA in ur faffing Church minds…….LMFAO!!

I love your style, more than the glamourous looks I really love the quirky ones, with the straight leg trousers, keep doing your thing and being fabulous.

P.s. you’ve proven that hair makes a HUGE difference to an outfit.

  • chioma April 17, 2009 at 3:30 am

FabuPOSH!!!!!!! ur style swagger is on another level babez!!!!! lovez it!!!

  • lola June 20, 2009 at 9:38 pm

the weave needs its own blog, for someone so young to look so old, there is nothing wrong with vintage but not when you wear it all together, it then looks tasteless, shopping in topshop and asos doesn’t classify as vintage as they are clothes massed produced to last an 8wk fashion cycle xoxo

  • Toni December 19, 2009 at 4:52 pm

wow what is it with these style sections everyone is trying too HARD to be diffrent and everyone shops at the same doggone place..ewww nigerian girls if they arent models, theyre stylists if they arent stylists , theyre friggin vintage-y someone give me an extension cord and kindly hang me with it….BORING i wanna see someone with a cali-surfer girl type style..simple and sweet…ewwwww and if i see some one shops at bershka, river island, ASOS and Zara one more time i’ll puke.

  • jane September 7, 2010 at 11:22 am
