What’s wrong with wanting MORE? Absolutely nothing!
Today, we present another double edition of BN Pick Your Fave.
The last time, it was UK retail brand – Karen Millen. This time, it is Nigeria’s Jewel by Lisa.

The ‘international chic’ aesthetic of Jewel by Lisa is beginning to appeal to fashionistas beyond the shores of Nigeria. Starlets who have rocked JBL on the global scene include Kelis, Solange Knowles and Dawn Richard of Dirty Money.

The first piece in the spotlight today is the gold ankara flapper dress. This dramatic piece was originally custom made for Kelis’ tour. The stunning dress is totally embellished with sequins and has a beaded fringe detail that runs  down the back and front. The dress has now been added to the Jewel by Lisa Privé line.

While the ankara flapper dress is totally dramatic, this look is more toned down yet still a statement piece. This fitted print mini dress is from JBL’s soon to be unveiled Spring/Summer 2011 collection. The elbow-length sleeved dress features the new Jewel by Lisa custom-made print with side panels of ankara. The neckline of the dress is intrinsically beaded with tiny multi-coloured beads. The JBL S/S ’11 collection is not officially released and we have already spotted several stylistas out and about rocking pieces from the collection. Based on the pieces we have seen, this dress has the potential to become a JBL signature piece.

Kelis wore the dress on stage at the Big Chill Festival in Herefordshire some months ago. Kelis stamped the look with her unique signature by pairing it with a beaded fringe wig. She then piled on bold gold bracelets for dramatic effect. Great stage look!

Studio 53 Extra presenter Dolapo Oni rocked the dress at the 2010 Channel O Music Video Awards which just took place in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dolapo stood out from the crowd as she shimmered in her JBL dress. Dolapo took a totally minimalist approach to accessorizing and let her dress, honey-hued hair and fresh faced makeup complete the look.

Yummy Mummy alert! Esosa Anenih wore the green version of the dress for the WIMBIZ 2010 conference dinner a few days ago. She accessorized with a gold clutch, heels and a dazzling smile.

Popular urban blog Concrete Loop celebrated their 5th anniversary last week and Dawn Richard of Diddy’s group Dirty Money was on the red carpet wearing the print JBL mini. With her hair styled in a bowl cut that was reminiscent of the look spotted by models at the JBL 2010 New York Fashion Week show, Dawn paired the dress with pointy black pumps. Dawn was styled by talented young stylist Ugo Mozie.

We just had to sneak designer Lisa Folawiyo into this pick your fave even though she rocked the dress for a photoshoot and not at an event. Lisa looked beautiful in this piece which she paired with gold accessories.

Eku Edewor was the first to spot this piece. She paired the dress with black sandals, a gold watch and a chunky gold bracelet and one of our favourites, red lippie.

set1: Yummy mummy’s pose is not great, hence my choice of the chic in the middle
set2: Lisa all the way. I wonder if her size has an influence on her designs. Her designs her always skimpy.

    • tai November 16, 2010 at 5:43 PM

      dolapo and Lisa nailed it

    • Ndy November 17, 2010 at 5:00 AM

kelis does it for me in the first dress, the dress hits her just right above the knee and she is the only one that shows a waist in the dress and an amazing figure, the other girls almost look straight(no offense) the second dress, i would say the 2nd and the third girl look the best in it, they dress shows off their figure.

    • IMAOBONG November 17, 2010 at 5:51 AM

esosa at her age is fab, she has a better poise on that dress, lisa is great

    • YFS fan November 17, 2010 at 8:00 PM

      set1: Dolapo and yummy mummy
set2: Lisa Lisa lisa. and eku( the red lip is a signature look?)

Do check my cousin’s website at http://www.yesidefashionstore.com

    • Africa Batik November 18, 2010 at 12:59 PM

If I could get my hands on any of those outfits it would be the muti coloured dress from the second set. All the ladies look amazing in such a simple style but the use of colour just makes the outfit ‘pop’.
