BN Bytes: The Nike Oshinowo Brand – Workout DVD, Fragrance, What Next?
Posted on Thursday, May 19th, 2011 at 5:02 PMBy BellaNaija.com

A few weeks ago, the official campaign image for ex-beauty queen/entrepreneur Nike Oshinowo‘s fragrance “ÀŞÀBÍ” hit the web.
Shot by Ty Bello, the image features Nike emerging from a pool of water. The stark simplicity of the image mirrors the minimalist perfume bottle and packaging.
Last year, the Nike Oshinowo brand entered the lifestyle arena with the “Fit, Forty & Fabulous” Fitness DVD. Now the fragrance which is described as “a magical oriental fragrance with chocolate, candid orange and a mandarin scent that gives the perfume an elegant but spirited character with an undertone of soft woods and warm balsamic resin.“
According to Nike Oshinowo, “ÀŞÀBÍ was inspired by the different smells of her favorite holiday spots“. The name ÀŞÀBÍ was specially chosen by Nike as well! ÀŞÀBÍ is her native name – what the Yorubas refer to as “Oriki”. ÀŞÀBÍ the Yoruba word, translates to ‘of a special birth’. The perfum is packaged in a 50ml round bottle with a gold neck detail. The gold neck “simply denotes the slim and long neck of the African woman.“
Other celebrity fragrances which have hit the Nigerian scene include Tara Fela-Durotoye’s “Be Inspired” and a signature fragrance by Ashionye.
ÀŞÀBÍ will be available in stores from June 1st 2011 and will retail for N5000 for a 50ml bottle.
Great to see Nigerian lifestyle brands emerging and celebrity being leveraged for commercial value. We hope to see more Nigerian celebrities exploring this arena and wonder what to expect next…

I can’t believe she is 40?!?
On the question about that’s next, my answer is: a lot more! This woman grabs every opportunity she gets in life!
Love love love her
thumb up to one of the few fabulous women we have around
its a lie!!!…me first…i thnk god for makin dis happen…lol
yup, it is indeed a lie. You ain’t first. Try again later…….hehheheheh
hahahahahahhahahhahahahhahahahh, better luck next time bud
Muahahahahahahahahahah!!! it gives me a morbid sense of joy to see u fall flat on ur face like this
hahaha fest ko hahahahah
Luks lik shes about cryin in d pict…
Water effect is also2fake! Cldnt dey afford gd fotografi???
Yes o, we really hope to see what will emerge next. Nice one Nike
se on bimo lowo ni? she looks pained rather than relaxed in my opinion
I saw Munachi Abi recently in a Lux soap ad, and I did a double take. Some adverse comments were thrown her way by critics who felt she did not merit it. A few readers also questioned her beauty, and others nearly bit their heads off. Constructive criticism has been hailed as the new ‘haterism’. Somehow I agree with a few of them though, Muna should not have been in a Lux shoot. She should have been chosen for the Venus De Milo soap ad – Muna is that lovely.
What is it though with Nigerian ex-beauty queens and soap ads? Muna fitted the bill, but maybe advertising companies should mix it up a bit. Like Tuface in a Gold Circle condom advert or Banky W in a Wahl Clipper one. Or say 9ice advertising Slim Fast, or Tonto Dike rooting for Anabel phones.
Even the soap suds did nothing to diminish Muna’s beauty, but I am surprised to see that Lux lathers that well. In fact well enough to out-perform most soap bubble products. The last time I saw a soap lather like that, my hair started turning red like Rihanna’s own – it was boarding school, and my cheap aunt had bought me the Life-Buoy soap to save pennies. That darn soap.
I remember the last beauty product advert I saw that had a beauty queen in it – it was Nike Oshinowo. She had her nose screwed up like the product smelled like ass. Aunt Nike is still hot though……http://woahnigeria.wordpress.com/2011/05/13/toast-a-nigerian-girl/
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT! (rolls eyes and walks off silently)
AS INNNNNNNNNNN
Yes, I remember Lifebuoy soap. It was horrible!
I totally admire this woman entrepreneurial spirit, more women should (especially the so-called celebrities – glorified aristo chics). Having said that, her DVD workout was a total B-S! For a woman that has not given birth there is not much of convincing that the exercise in video does work. She has no excuse not to look great.
I hope the perfume smells nice!!!!
uhhh….Oooookkkkkk, Jacuzzi…thanx for ur rousing piece on the merits of Muna’s beauty, as a comment on a post featuring Nike’s ad?!
I think she is trying too hard. Not really feeling her at all. Someone mentioned that she doesn’t look her age, why would she? She doesn’t have the responsibilities that make women her age look older (eg, taking care of your children/ home and maintaining a steady business or career!)
2kool u too gbaski
please what does ‘gbaski’ me?
This is how you build a brand…..as women we should encourage each other and stop putting others down . i wish her the best.
N.B: Darey fans i have something for you guys on my blog check it out when you can.
ty bello….is she a musician,a photographer n a reporter abi publisher????pls some one answer me…
Faith, faith. Jamb Questioneer, you’re here again… Hehehe
I know about TY being a musician and photog but not publisher sha.
all but not yet a publisher….except she don dey do am for her bedroom sha….lol
lol ….all for does o my dear kowope!!!
Nice one Nike butttttttttttttt that picture just didnt tell it right. Thumbs up though.
ASABI……eau da parfum??????????hmmmmm
I just think it should have been in one of our languages, may be hers.
Is ‘ASABI’ not language enough for you? SMH.
What i just love in this is that its coming from someone from my country-Nigeria with a local name. I just love that. I hope many more will follow this path. Kudos to Nike Oshinowo
Nike is a savvy business woman, her perfume looks hot and is affordable.Definitely gonna buy.
@Anja she’s 45 to be precise!
she is doing very well i must say….she shd marry sha! *now running away before someone chops off my head*
she IS married…
Kudos for her for trying to explore a business option that only the Hausa/Fulani’s have explored with their cecerobia’s[hope i got the spelling right..lol]
Anyways, i hope it sells so others like us can be encouraged to explore other options outside the Corporate World.
The only issue i have with her is that she seems so cold and closed off from us ‘regular’ people so on that basis, i wouldn’t buy any of the products. She needs a PR to work on her brand image, make it more susceptible to the youth. She needs to stop looking like a mannequin that lost its way [i.e no smile]
@ eloho she’s married dear!!!
I like dats its cheap ad I think she rocks @ 45 wuld want to look like dat wen am dat age. Nike pls share ur secret n don’t give me dat dvd -
I concur on that point, i get irritated when women say she is super stunning at 45, will she have the same body if she had children and had to cope with the day to day hassle of playing wife and mother?. cant hate her hustle though, she has her onions and she is frying them well.
I know a lot of people in their 30s who aren’t married and have no kids but don’t look half as good as she does. Give her kudos jare!
I can assure you that if she had kids, her swag will still be on lock and she will still look that slamming. Having children does not equate end of fabulousness.
The picture is a no no for me.
the name of the perfume is a big nooooooo
The picture features her emerging from water, and her body is totally dry, n she has complete make up on, the picture is really a big NOOOOOOOOOO
Lol… I will buy Heidi Klum’s workout video and not Nike Oshinowo’s. I wonder why…? (rolls eyes) If your life and world revolved around you and your looks you would look like that at 45 too if you have good genes. It’s not rocket science. You’d be surprised what money and lots of time on your hands and less worries can do for a person.
She is however a very savvy business woman and it is for that reason I respect her. She sees opportunity and seizes it.
I like Nike, but that photo gets a big fat zero from me. It doesn’t look as if she’s trying to sell me a fragrance; it simply looks like she’s blocking out any loud noise. Trust me, if this was America’s Next Top Model, she would have been in the bottom two.
i tot she was a rich babe or she’s seriously tryin to ‘keep up with the kadashians..
i love her entrepreneurial spirit……….but she is too uptight…….all the best sha
nice….kudos to her. Whr can i find the pef in Abuja?
