Domino’s Pizza launches and generates buzz in Nigeria| Free Pizza Giveaway in Lagos

It’s a great day for Pizza lovers in Lagos because one of the top international brands in pizza making and delivery – Domino’s Pizza has a franchise in Lagos.  The pizzeria opened its doors to customers this morning.

As a way of showing love to their new customers, Domino’s promised free boxes of pizza to anyone who visited between 5 and 7pm yesterday.

I was there and it was an absolutely delightful experience. Lagosians, not known for any kind of ‘last carrying’, tweeted about it and even today the pizza parlor was packed to the rafters.

Don’t be told about it. Domino’s Pizza is situated in Victoria Island.

When is Domino’s coming to Abuja?

  • prism of an immigrant August 13, 2012 at 5:25 pm

The importation of obesity and health issues into Naija is well on its way with the opening of all these unhealthy foreign fast food restaurants.

    • choclate August 13, 2012 at 7:42 pm

      lol! true

    • Ginika August 14, 2012 at 3:14 pm

However, thanks to the stressful and physically demanding lifestyle of the Nigerian society that will not be anytime soon. Atleast we will not be driving through the Aisles of the shopping malls (not yet atleast) nor driving to every place possible (not yet)

  • Yuk August 13, 2012 at 6:04 pm

Only a person who does not know good pizza can get excited about Dominos… The only brand worse is probably little ceaser’s , but after all is said and done, both taste like cardboard…

    • Sabirah August 13, 2012 at 7:36 pm

      Exactly!!!

    • Laide O August 14, 2012 at 9:22 am

Agreed! But, hey! Its better than what Lagos has to offer at the minute! Let then bring a Papa Johns! Thats my fav fast food pizza place here in the UK!

  • @ajiriavae August 13, 2012 at 7:04 pm

Its nice to know that more businesses are opening up in Nigeria, and hopefully this will make the home based pizza parlours sit up and stop giving us ‘stuffing on dry loaf” that if the pizza that they sell. I don’t know about Dominos being all that good. Never tasted before but I know lot of people who don’t take it seriously. But it’s all competition and hopefully as more pizza places open, the winner will be the customer.

I hope a Nigerian owns it. Let’s make our people rich before we make others rich.

  • Blackknight August 13, 2012 at 7:18 pm

Lagos watch out for OBESITY Explosion! Dominos can be very addictive…..

  • Teris August 13, 2012 at 7:39 pm

    Neon highlights

  • Mssexy August 13, 2012 at 7:39 pm

well Nigerians do not really care about taste but names, i want to believe they r eatng brandnames and not d food, otherwise what do we make of d trash KFC sells as chicken in Nigeria, o pity no quality control in my mama land

  • Mssexy August 13, 2012 at 7:41 pm

      Oh my!!!…..lmao

    • Ajoke August 14, 2012 at 6:42 am

hahahahah, yes Nigerians do this lmao.

  • Naijamum in L. August 13, 2012 at 9:23 pm

    I cant even celebrate.
Is this the same Dominos we avoid over here ‘cos of obesity issue. *shaking my head*
Pizza is not supposed to be combined with a diet of eba, pounded yam and assorted meat.
The day we can package healthy Naija food and export ‘brands’ – I will celebrate

    • Me August 14, 2012 at 3:41 am

I agree with you, but you know Naija has this “foreign brand must be good” mentality. Heck, you can sell US trash at the price of gold in Naija. Trust me, they will buy. All sense of value flushed down the toilet.

    • Anon August 14, 2012 at 6:42 am

      LOL!

  • Dayo August 13, 2012 at 9:51 pm

Is it by force? Those who have obesity issues can stay away. After all, all those fat folks I see waddling around Lagos have thus far managed to obese without Dominoes. And it’s not like the typical Naija diet of carbs morning noon and night is much healthier. It’s about choice and variety. Those with bad eating habits will find a way to bloat, regardless of brand name.

  • Queen August 13, 2012 at 10:11 pm

dominos is very unhealthy here in america, when you lift off a slice the box looks like it wants to fall apart because of all the oil :s i hope its not that unhealthy in nigeria, cus i hate that place, so oily and salty

  • Lala August 14, 2012 at 12:13 am

If all Nigerians watched “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead”, no one would ever go near any of these fast food places again.

  • Tim August 14, 2012 at 12:18 am

Junk food again after KFC, obesity and overweight epidemics. I pity my mother land nijja.

  • Chikita August 14, 2012 at 12:37 am

Please u guys be realistic! Everyone eats fast food at some point, all u healthy naija food campaigners, I can bet have not eaten anything healthy in a while. We celebrate these things going back to Naija, more jobs have been created and some people don’t have to travel abroad to experience Nandos, Dominos and KFC. My kids are pizza lovers and like Dominos and pizza express .I don’t know about people avoiding them(u pizza classers) after all people buy frozen pizzas from Iceland, COSTCO, ASDA and Tesco. B nice, u might own a business someday, don’t run anothers down!

  • naijababe August 14, 2012 at 1:45 am

Everything FOREIGN is not good. All these foreign foods that Naijas are obsessed with comes with health issues. Our food is more healthy than these foods. We just need to cut down on our takes to reduce the big belly. As long as, we also focus on our weight, work out and make sure we keep our lungs, and heart healthy.

  • CLP August 14, 2012 at 2:07 am

Ah! Nigerians, don’t touch it! All these junks aren’t good for anyone. Eat healthy in our local diets. Nothing surpass that. Concerning the looks, pizzas generally don’t look good(to me)

  • AB August 14, 2012 at 3:59 am

Obesity on the way is all I can say. Don’t you see how fat americans are? Is that how we want to be?

  • Jazzyb August 14, 2012 at 6:06 am

Did they take out the calories from the pizza? More with cardiac obese people with co-morbidity problems coming up

  • purplepearl August 14, 2012 at 6:38 am

So many negative comments here, for me, am happy that foreign brands are beginning to come into Nigeria….Wal-Mart, KFC and now Dominos, hopefully the standards don’t drop

  • Ajoke August 14, 2012 at 6:42 am

I didn’t know Nigerians liked pizza this much, was surprised when I heard of this. Dominos is not that great over here & it’s also one of the pricier chain pizza places (which I don’t think is justified based on the quality of their pizza). I wonder if they tweaked their pizza for the Nigerian market like KFC. I’m not a fan of KFC Canada but I loved the KFC chicken in Nigeria (spicier + you can get rice! woop) lol.

  • ada August 14, 2012 at 7:58 am

plz domino’s pizza in jand is quite crappy, but am sure nigerians will help them recover their loss, when papa john’s come over then il be happy

  • pynk August 14, 2012 at 8:12 am

Lmao i guess papa john’s is to follow. But what the hell is it with pizza’s made in nigeria without the tomato sauce? I ‘ll stick to the italian place behind glo abeg.
Till someone brings in a real full fledged $1.25 slice NY style pizza palour, i am not getting excited. It is true, we are importing obesity into Nigeria in folds.

    • zainab August 14, 2012 at 12:17 pm

sigh… what i wouldn’t give for a new york style slice right now.. love those mom & pop local pizzerias. they make the best slice.. now you’ve got me drooling.

  • missA August 14, 2012 at 8:30 am

Nigerians criticize everything. When international brands enter your market, it shows that your economy is deepning and your getting internationally integrated. im sure these same people wouldnt complain if Louis Vuitton and Gucci opened shops in Nigeria.
Dont let’s see wrong in everything. those who love pizza will patronize and those who dont will stay away. All these stuff are a dime a dozen in SA and you dont see anyone complaining. like someone said up there, now not everyone has to travel to experience what you find in all these other countries.

  • adelegirl August 14, 2012 at 10:04 am

I was gonna get all excited about Dominos Pizza opening in Lagos (even though I live in Abuja, it’s only a matter of time before they open in Abuja isn’t it? At least i hope so) but then remembered the epic fail of Nandos and KFC. They don’t taste anywhere as good or even remotely like what you find for these same brands in other countries… Goodluck to them though and hope they can keep up to standards.

What I really want to know is when is H&M (I am a confirmed high street cheapskate chic. Yes I agree !) coming to Nigeria. They keep opening in other countries every single day and I’ve asked them on their FB page too but no show :-(

  • Sarafina August 14, 2012 at 11:16 am

Good news to pizza lovers……….though my fav pizza is fr pizza hut, served with their barbecued wings…..

  • yellowsissy August 14, 2012 at 12:27 pm

  • sadebabe August 14, 2012 at 3:43 pm

Yellowmissy, pls you have to give me the code o! U can only imagine how terrible it is not to get pizza that is truly italian in Lagos.

  • Roberto August 25, 2012 at 4:18 am

The best and most authentic Italian pizza I’ve had in Lagos is at Bar Campione, otherwise know as BC. Its in VI off Saka Tinubu…still as a guilty American pleasure, Dominos is worth the odd visit…

  • Theresa Doghor September 8, 2014 at 1:27 pm

I am buying one today. Pizza that is. I hope it tastes good.
