kitschai Debut Collection

There’s a new fashion brand in town. Kitschai, owned by London born creative director Andrea Ushedo was established early this year and has released a dark and edgy costume design collection for its debut titled “Unicorns and Bullet Wounds”.

Taking its inspiration from the West African safari with print and textures, PVC, dip-dyed patterns and more. To maintain its authenticity, the fabrics used were hand dyed in Mali and Guinea. According to the designer, the collection was made to represent freedom, strength and wildlife.

The collection has a mix of versatile ready-to-wear pieces like a turtle neck and mono strap dress in dyed fabric and a couple of high fashion pieces in leather. View the collection below.

like seriously!!! What are these meant for? (*confused* both for the designer and the designs). ‘Nylon-bag clothes’…

    • the special one July 11, 2013 at 3:28 PM

it looks to silly to even be a costume attire

    • Peaches July 11, 2013 at 3:47 PM

It’s exactly what it says… “Edgy”. Fashion is art at the end of the day, and this is definitely artistic. I would love to rock some of these pieces! Especially the animal print items.

    • pynk July 11, 2013 at 4:42 PM

      No buenas

    • L.L. July 11, 2013 at 4:59 PM

Really???????????? What are these? The girls’ faces look dead, zero personality & using saran wrap for design? Um….thank u but no thank u! I’ll pass.

    • xoxo July 11, 2013 at 5:18 PM

      These are costumes oo!!

    • Demmy July 11, 2013 at 6:15 PM

Most of these are quite ermm weird but I love the last dress and all the chiffon shirts. The zebra print skirt is pretty too. x

    • james July 11, 2013 at 6:37 PM

I applaud what the designer is doing, thinking outside the box in terms of form and materials. Keep honing your craft, please don’t give in to the ankara craze that gets the most positive comments on Bella, and see where you are in a few collections’ time!

Also it is evident you are either really good at sketching, or (more likely) you make many of these outfits yourself. Many of today’s designers cannot hold a candle to that.

    • Duvie great July 11, 2013 at 8:19 PM

This is creative fashion is all abt creating new designs and dis is wat most designers in nigeria lack. Shout out to the brain behind dis designs

    • jade July 11, 2013 at 8:36 PM

      OMG

    • lovegenie July 11, 2013 at 8:59 PM

    • FBI July 11, 2013 at 9:46 PM

media.bellanaija.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/image20.jpg this looks like something rihanna would wear. the designs are a lil edgy for nigerians but hey who says d designer is designing for only nigerians.

Good job, the forms are commendable, very creative

    • dee one July 12, 2013 at 2:39 AM

D ugliest ollection I have seen in a long time…..costume or no costume.

    • Temitope Oluleye July 12, 2013 at 8:49 AM

      “Mum” is the word…..

    • Zero July 12, 2013 at 9:23 AM

      Horrendous collection

    • Priscy July 12, 2013 at 9:31 AM

      hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Even as a costume, this ain’t good

    • Bar Baric July 12, 2013 at 11:35 AM

Even for a costume collection or haute couture, this is quite awful. The Nigerian fashion market for now is more atuned to pret-a-porter. I wish her well, but Kitschai needs to be more practical with her pieces.

    • eby July 12, 2013 at 11:53 AM

      tacky…

    • Ify lfp July 12, 2013 at 12:44 PM

Costume or no costume even Goldie’s(God bless her soul) corpse won’t be caught rocking any of these.

    • Raquel July 12, 2013 at 9:09 PM

Very creative. Collections are not always ready-to-wear items but a portrayal of the creativity of the designer. Love that this is outside the box, both in terms of fabric and design. Bear in mind that Nigerian designers aren’t designing for Nigerians alone. raqueldaily.blogspot.com

    • Tolu July 12, 2013 at 9:59 PM

honestly and politely confused at these collections and I need to ask can anyone really wear these collections in Nigeria or even Africa???

    • Tikka Masala July 12, 2013 at 11:50 PM

Ok, that was scary. Must be for a Missy Elliot video shoot.

    • Yemy July 13, 2013 at 8:40 AM

      Well done, very creative pieces

    • Mayo July 14, 2013 at 6:14 AM

Wow! Arrant nonsense… What is this? Even Lady Gaga won’t wear this.
This is neither creative nor attractive. I can see a brilliant idea behind this designs but the final work just doesn’t cut it.

    • Miss Bee July 14, 2013 at 8:18 AM

Are these halloween outfits? Just asking.
