At least five women were violently sexually assaulted by a mob in Cairo’s Tahrir Square on Sunday.

The crowd was gathered to celebrate the inauguration of Egypt’s new president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. However, things began to turn awry when some parts of the crowd began to sexually assault women.

An account of one of the assaults was given by CNN:

“Get back boy! Get back!” the officers say as one lifts his pistol into the air.

Large patches of skin on the victim appear bloodied and raw as she struggles to walk toward a police van with hordes of men still fighting for a handful of her body.

Moments later, she falls to the ground, naked. Police carry her into the vehicle, seemingly incapable of thwarting the crowd.”

The aforementioned account was reportedly captured in a two-minute video recording captured by a mobile phone, and has gone viral.

Four out of the five assaulted victims required medical attention. According to reports, the attacks were so ferocious that officers deployed to rescue the women were injured in the process.

Police authorities have reportedly arrested seven men in connection with the incident after two of the victims identified them as culprits.
