Does Wearing Fake Fashion Items Make You Trashy? Media Personality Efe Tommy Thinks So – Read His Opinion Piece!

Efe TommyWhat a bargain!” “Wait till you see the deal I got!” “This is too good to be true“. All these are common expressions from shoppers who thought they bought a $700 designer handbag, shoe or blazer for $100.

Then there are those who remark…”Yes, I know it’s a fake, but “everyone” buys them!

I’ve heard of it happening and even seen it a few times; male and female celebrities carrying around fake handbags, wearing fake shoes, belts and even clothes. This is one thing I find hard to grasp – if you’re in the limelight, why on earth would you carry around or wear something fake from a high fashion brand, when indeed there are actually high street brands that you can afford the real deal from?

I know a lot of home grown designers give outfits to celebrities to wear, which they sometimes return or keep as a gift from the designers. This is a good thing as it is very important that celebrities pair up with designers that understand the image that they are portraying. Just like the case of Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing and the Kardashians, South Africa’s Gert Johan-Coetzee and Bonang Matheba, Nigeria’s Lanre DaSilva-Ajayi and Nollywood’s Rita Dominic, South Africa’s Palsa Hommes and R&B singer, Donald and Mai Atafo and media personality, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

Celebrities are fascinating because they live in a parallel universe—one that looks and feels just like ours, yet is lightyears beyond our reach. Stars cry to confidants about their problems—failed relationships, hardscrabble upbringings, bad career decisions—and we can relate. The paparazzi catch them in wet hair and a stained T-shirts and we’re thrilled, their stories hit the blogs and we grabbing our popped corn and sipping tea reading the comment sections. They’re ordinary folks, just like anybody.

Fans get motivated and want to steal their style, dress sense and even how they carry themselves. Stars live in another world entirely, one that makes the lives of fans seem woefully dull by comparison. But how do these fans even get the right to your style when you as a star haven’t even paved the way correctly.

Exactly a year ago, I was dining with a friend and we were sitting outside the rooftop of Maison Fahrenheit in Lagos. Next to us was a table with three premium Nigerian music stars and a lady who seemed like a PR practitioner, from their overly loud conversation. One of them was wearing a Patek Philippe Nautilus in red gold. At least that was what I thought it was at first glance. In the evening dusk, I took a look again as the watch was stunning the first time. Giving it a better look, I noticed this was a replica version of the Nautilus in red gold on a leather strap. The edges were way too round, the strap was crappy and the bezel was too thick. Furthermore, the dial was far from refined as Patek Philippe makes them.

Even though a real Patek Philippe of this caliber is only available for the lucky few, and Patek probably wouldn’t lose a dime over this guy [wearing a fake], I don’t think it is chic to have a fake watch. At this point I already doubted his red Versace sneakers, Philipp Plein sweater and dog chains [gold chains].

It becomes even more pathetic when people try to make others think it is an authentic watch. Other occasions include Instagram posts of famous stars wearing the fake item pretending it’s the real deal. If this isn’t madness, I wonder what it’s called. The idea is to look appropriately dressed not soaked in fake designer labels like a bird trapped in a spider web.

The fashion industry is truly filled with so many elite pieces that men and women yearn for it every way imaginable. They are always on the quest to find the newest, most precious piece to add to their ever-growing wardrobe. They stop and look at items in store windows, browse their Instagram pages, they visit them online, and in some cases, they are able to save enough money to actually purchase the costly items.

But what if money wasn’t all that mattered when it came to certain fashion choices? What if there was more to it all? These are the exact questions that one faces whenever they are on the quest for the highly sought after Hermes Birkin bag.

This item is so exclusive and special, that it is said you can’t have one as a part of your handbag collection unless you make it to the number one spot on the notorious and lengthy waiting list. Yes, you read correctly – Even if you are able to fork over the $10,000 to $80,000 (in some cases—even higher) for this coveted item, it is rumored that you will still have to wait before holding the precious bag in your hands.

This infamous “waiting list” is for the super rich; the people who have the expendable income to make this steep purchase. Overall, this waiting list is one of the main reasons that this item has become so well known. Anything that has an extra hurdle to overcome in order to obtain becomes much more desirable.

Everyone who knows and loves the fashion industry is aware of the great lengths of waiting and planning that one must go through in order to get a Birkin. It’s not an easy feat whether you plan on waiting it out or not.

So how do some Nigerian celebrities have this bag in different colors and skin types? Question for the gawdz!!! Need I mention the slippers, belts, loafers and even t-shirts that Hermes has no idea about.

From Christian Louboutin, Hermes, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Guiseppe Zanotti and Kanye’s Yeezy Boost 350 to the latest obsession by numerous male musicians – Phillip Plien, Balmain, Louis Leeman, Balenciaga, and the ultimate Rolex [Yes! Every male singer/rapper, even the up-and-coming ones want to wear a Rolex].

Mere seeing this guys on the ‘gram, on screen, in magazines and sometimes in close range, you do not even need an extra lens to know that they are wearing the fake pieces. And knowing how pricey these items are, it’s only safe to say some of your favorite stars aren’t wearing the real deal when your records haven’t even blown out of Lagos state.  Oh and lets not even get involved with the females here. That’s for another day.

In conclusion, it is extremely better to be seen wearing an original item from high street brands like Zara, H&M, and Diesel than wearing fake pieces from high fashion brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Louboutin, Dior and more. It is trashy, not authentic and mares your personality and brand.

Remember it’s not just about wearing a designer shoe, cloth or wristwatch but where you purchased it from is also a big deal. Not forgetting the idea is to look good.

Thank you so much Efe Tommy for this your piece! I really think it is low self esteem that will make our Nollywood /Artist stars wear fake designer items! I live in NY and I remember I wanted to get a designer bag this last summer and I walked into LV on 5th Avenue there was one 1 nice bag going $1350 with tax it will go for $1430, left and went to Gucci saw something going for about that same range,as I wanted a bag that I could throw my laptop in, I am now like why would a bag be more expensive than the Laptop! Still in my search I went into Burberry I saw this bag that had a distinct feature and by the I asked the sales lady to bring it down and men! It was going for $2900 and I asked Lady how come a Burberry bag is more expensive than a Gucci and an LV! We laughed and she told me that I had a eye for good stuff,we laughed as I told her my budget was like $500 and she said that bag would not even be on sale in December. Although I was interning in a top Invst Bank in NY! I had to be in Nigeria for a few days and I also had tuition fees coming as I am a Lady in my 30s, all my designers I get as gift from elder ones as I am the last,as they call me a cheap skate o, but I rather focus on the invaluable which is completing my education.
I just went to H&M on Time Square and got a lovely Bag for $40 that was classic! I am like, why would anybody want to carry a fake designer item? Its really crass! You see all kind of funny looking designer styled look dummy items in Nigeria! It is really sad!

    • Ms.b January 9, 2016 at 1:14 pm

U know u r broke, but took yourself to high end designer stores to get a bag?? Are u writing this so we know u live in NY and wear hand me down deaigners or???? U r interning in a big investment bank? Your response is unecessary n Dumb. It seems uwent window shopping and have no knowledge of d cost of designer merchandise, that’s y u carried your $40 to fifth avenue looking for a bag.

Ms. B lmao! U are very funny:) There’s PIECE of MIND living beyond your means but folks don’t just get it. U’re earning $9.00 per hr & U wanna drive a 2017 Lexus or Lamborghini & U think U’ll survive.. Everyday, I’m THANKFUL for who I am, What I have & what I’m yet to accomplish. Low self esteem plays a role in all these mess & knowing who U are in the society matters ALOT.
Well this is 2016, I’ve decided to keep my $$$ in my wallet & not patronizing any designer, real-signer, or fake-signer.

Its classless and illegal, you reap people off their hard work and you call yourself a Christian or Muslim.

      • Ngozi January 9, 2016 at 11:01 pm

Anyone who wears fakes is fake themselves. You guys complain everyday about people like Toke living fake lives and trying to be what they are not. The height of living a fake life is buying fake things. Buy what you can afford if you are confident in yourself. People buy fake things because they are trying to be what they are not. Stop living a fake life, buy the original of what you can afford and save for the luxury goods. You lot are ranting because you know you are guilty. A person who is confident in themselves will have no need to wear fake things. . You lot will we wearing fake things and have the guts to say someone is living a fake life …,hiss fake ass people

    • seriously January 9, 2016 at 5:38 pm

      @Lacey

People are forever living beyond their means. Poor, average people always try to prove something they dont have. For some reason, im not big on designer. I’m big on quality. There are affordable quality things without going over your budget. Wearing fake designers is just stupid, and shows low self esteem. Nigerians are big on showing off, competing against one another etc its unhealthy obsession

    • kadara January 9, 2016 at 10:48 pm

igerians hate the truth, if you are wearing fakes you are trashy and you are a criminal. Stop patronizing people that are stealing someone else’s work or else karma is a bitch . Nigerians are religious but lack integrity. If you wear fakes you are no better than a thief! if you claim to have confidence wear the authentic of what you can afford with pride. Only fake people wear fake things

      • ElessarisElendil January 11, 2016 at 2:48 am

Ehm sorry Kadara but aren’t these high fashion items made in China and other low wage countries while the designers inflate the price because of the ‘brand name’. So technically the designers are already heartless exploiters of labour often child labour. Which would make Nigerians Robin Hood……………a different class of criminal.

    • The real D January 10, 2016 at 2:33 am

Ms Lacey, whenever i feel that my standards have gone up in life, I usually first go online to see if i am going somewhere within my price range before i even waste my energy. And my dear Burberry is more expensive than all the LV’s and Gucci’s ooo. There is a reason why you see the LV and G logos more than you see the signature Burberry patterns na….

      • lacey January 10, 2016 at 9:32 pm

Thanks real D! I really wanted to spoil myself but after I went my friend a Ghana ian guy and I had a budget of $1400 and the guy jostled me back to reality telling me that was the price of a small car in Ghana and he went on to say that if his wife came home to tell him she bought a bag for that amount he would send her packing! After that conversation I dropped my budget to $500,then he told me that was still too high, after if he finished following me around for my designer label waka, we should go to H&M for his own stuff, that I saw this lovely bag that I finally bought! Anywhere I go with the bag even white ladies will like your purse is lovely! That is what they call bag! That is I saved my money o! Whereas for some Nigerian guys would be proud of you wasting your money buying the designer after all it is not their money! The funniest part was this my friend was so scared to enter those designer label brand stores, he said he did want a situation where he would mistakenly break something, then they will ask him pay o. We became shopping partners because he really helped me cut cost even in my living expenses and other areas.

    • The real madam January 10, 2016 at 10:45 am

      Blah, blah, blah, blah….freaking blah!

Mr Efe, you “IS” one bitchy queen on her period ain’t you???

If you forget everything about this alcohol fueled mindless drivel i am about to spill up here, remember this; wearing DESIGNERS DOES NOT MAKE YOU CLASSY!!!!!!

Now i will let you in on a little secret….
Your hollywood celebs….Yes i said Hollywood not bloody Nollywood, wear HIGH END replicas all the time!!!! You just don’t know it!
And for the record, there are replicas and there are REPLICAS……..there is levels to this shit!

I have a closet full of authentic items and i am not ashamed to say i have badass replicas as well, thanks to my new connect….hell, my shit so good not even a trained eye can spot the difference. Well of course it does not come cheap, but if saving $4000 is the trade off…yessssssss honey! i will gladly put that towards my retirement savings

See for people who have been around the block, we know the deal. I have the authentic Chanel 2.55, the mini flap, and the jumbo. I also invested in the never full LV, the Keepall 60, Lady Dior, Marc Jacobs…..to name a few. I spent good money on this when i was in my 20s and gullible. Don’t get me wrong, i love fashion, but i ain’t stupid! Anyway, i was 26 then making way too much money and no responsibilities so i found frivolities to blow it on.

When i ushered in my 30s i viewed life differently, especially when a good friend came to visit with her Chanel boy bag which i had been contemplating buying…..darlings…..this bag was the ish! Looked real, smelled real…..hell, even spoke real…lol!

Forget that Canal street trash from NY you can smell a mile away, i was blown away by the details on this bag. I knew what real Chanel looked like so you can imagine how shocked i was when chick told me it was a replica she got from her connect. Hell, i even asked her to bring her 2.55 over which she also got from her contact so i can see and compare. My dear, i could not tell the freaking difference! Bad ass attention to details, the stitching was of superior quality, the lines…aligned to perfection. No puffy bullshit effect and it smelled like, like, like…..CHANEL…lol Hell it even came wrapped bow and all, Authenticity card and code imprinted….ha! i was blown away……all for $700. I even measured the The interlocking CC…perfecto! In width, length and size it was 100% accurate….like i said, there is levels to this shit! We even punked a Chanel store associate who could not tell the difference, and these two mumus worked there o! …loll, my dear, the only difference was by putting both bags on a measuring scale…..the auth bag weighed a few ounces less than the replica!

Now get this, she’s had the bag for over 3years no complaints. I have had mine for a little longer, paid a heck lot more for it and you know what, its the same bloody thing! Except she was smarter with her money.

Fashion is a fad, I remember when all the rave was about the Chloe Paddington bag and everyone and their mama was clamouring and saving for one….how many people rock that shit today?…….enough said. …… and while Chanel might be deemed as a classic fashion item, it damn sure ain’t gold! don’t be deceived, It depreciates! hell you are lucky if you get good resale value for it should you decide to trade it in depending on the bag’s condition. Now the other bags, Dior, YSL and co, i call them papanjaku! (trash) the resale value is shit so why shell out that much on it? Lets be smart here….

I am sure you don’t think those designers spend that much money on manufacturing the merchandise do you? Don’t be fooled by that rubbish “Handcrafted in Italy by Unicorns….and stitched to perfection by mermaids from the beautiful red Aegean sea…..lol! all na washhhhhhhh!!!!! there is almost 100% mark up on those merchandise, you are paying for the brand name and the bullshit store space. And abeg, spare me the “But the item last forever bullshit….’cause it doesn’t. it wears and tears like every other bag/shoe/scarf/dress

My friend’s contact in Singapore who is seriously coded and will get you the same merchandise for way less…..just saying, there are houses to be built and kid’s college tuition to be paid, use your head!

I will finish with this, y’all remember that Millionaire socialite in TX who had an insane closet filled with the baddest birkin bags, chanel, etc and she hosted fundraisers in her closet,…. as in the three floor closet was that sick. Why did home girl’s house get burglarized and the thieves made away with her bags which she had “insured”…lol. Long story short, this high and mighty lady caught herself doing primetime TV interviews about how expensive the bags stolen were and how she was devastated about being robbed only for the Thief to emerge busting her tales of woe. While some bags were real, homegirl had quite a number of replicas in her closet….actually a lot…lol! But very good ones! which an ordinary eye could never detect. Some might call her phony…hahaha, i call her SMART! And lets not forget the Lupita Nyongo stolen dress that was supposedly beaded in “authentic pearls”…lol Oh, and this was reported by the dressmaker o…..Calvin Klein…cough, cough….well, we all know how that story ended…lol ….Welcome to world of smokes and mirrors….The more you look the less you see….even your ‘revered” designers are grade A bullshitters!

Bottomline, be smart with your money, brands like MK, Marc Jacobs, LV etc are relatively cheap, so i don’t know why anyone will go the replica route with those, but abeg, for you chanel, Birkin,….expensive brands…borrow yourself brain! Get a very coded connect who deals with referrals only and get a grade A replica!

And you Mr Efe….keep spending o, Omo baba olowo,…what is that saying again…A fool and his money shall soon part….Kontinu!

LOL….this guy get time o. You had all the time to look at the watch someone was wearing up to the dial? Joblessness at its peak. The fellow you were looking @ may not have even noticed you. Rubbish and nonsense!!

    • fleur January 9, 2016 at 4:50 pm

Thank you. This is why we have a problem with healing important issues like the economy in Nigeria!! You go to a party to meet with people and socialize and discuss beer and you spend the entire time assessing wristwatch dial. I think it’s because for you that is the definition of self worth and it is pitiful because folks who think like you resort to thievery or worse when their self worth disappears and it often does cos even the I bible says money has wings!! celebrities dress expensively because they are selling and silently communicating a price. In addition to their skills they are saying all being equal, “I command $3 million or $10 million per movie.” It’s the same story about why there is excitement when invited to certain parties. It says to all who may seek your services, “I am now of interest to high rollers like Steven Spielberg so up your offer.” For wall street bankers, they dress up because when they meet clients they are telling telling the client “leave your $500 million with me and i know what to do with it to make you richer.” The psychology of humans is that they want to know you personally. Are you going to steal tthat money? Without criminal records the one way they can make what could be considered a fair guess is to know you understand that level of money. So they assess your”wherewithal” by looking at outward appearance! Same with business deals. You are walking around asking a nation to buy $10 million worth of crude from you. They want to know if you are for real. Are you wearing payless and talking a billionaires game? It’s part of how they get comfy with parting with their money. This is where your claim to be authentic becomes legitimate but your brain no reach that level because you have no clue why one needs to be authentic beyond looking rich for the sake of it!

    • ATL’s finest January 9, 2016 at 8:13 pm

@ Dips *Major likes*. God bless U. Ain’t nobody got time for that. if u can afford real items every now and then, why not. @ Writer, some folks wear designers and still look TRASHY & TACKY. It’s not by wearing designers , it’s how U put it together & rock it well. Some folks wear knock-offs & look like a million buck..Everyone with their vision, views, and opinions on how they feel about it.

I am not against buying real jewelries and watches bcuz that U can always pass down to your kids. I’m team #REALWATCHES&JEWELRIES#. But if u believe every purse, pumps, clothes have got to b a designer but u don’t wanna look Tacky, then that’s bn foolish to me.

    • Somtoo January 11, 2016 at 11:15 am

Men, people on this thread be scaring me. What if some of us dont even know the names of these designers and just see a bag carrying a certain name or design that we like and decide to buy?

All these names and dollar amounts you ppl are throwing around funny die. I have not heard of half of them simply cos I DO NOT CARE!

What is my own with fake and original? I go into a boutique, i see something i like, i can afford it and i buy it. I have other things to worry about than the name on the item.

Na wa o. Let ,e keep reading sha, maybe i will learn something!

  • Lem January 9, 2016 at 7:34 am

I totally totally agree with you 100percent. For the life of me I don’t understand how anyone would wear a fake high end designer product just to belong rather than just humble yourself and wear an original Zara or other good quality high street brands? It is totally tacky. The most annoying one is when some babe will tell you ‘oh I got this channel bag at a bargain just 50k’ really? You must be living under a rock or in self denied delusion if you actually ‘believe’ you got an original bag?

    • Bola January 9, 2016 at 1:54 pm

You’re right, i’ve had to stop buying some brands because Nigerians have bastardized them with their fake versions e.g the YSL bags. I’ll rather buy the cheapest authentic thing in a designer store e.g a scarf rather than buy a fake. My general rule to know if someone is wearing a fake is to look at the rest of them, if you are carrying a 1M bag and everything else on you is not up tp 50k i don’t need a soothsayer to know its fake or carrying a Hermes and riding a crappy car. Its trashy to buy or sell fake stuff plus illegal

      • Babybabybabyooo January 9, 2016 at 2:36 pm

Four brands that have been bastardized to the point of no return: Balenciaga, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Versace. May God rest their souls

      • Rose January 9, 2016 at 4:49 pm

Bola….Biko that is not an authentic way of knowing if something is fake…personally I only like to buy expensive bags, shoes and jewelries…for clothes I can buy from anywhere and even car set mine isn’t fancy @alll cos I could care less….its called priority and mixing and matching pieces….

      • tiana January 9, 2016 at 7:55 pm

bola not so true – my european boss is very simple – you will not know he is rich but wears a 20000 pounds watch – you can’t generalise. He said to me it was an investment based on quality. it will last him a lifetime.

      • ATL’s finest January 9, 2016 at 8:26 pm

?????? @ Bols God bless U. I went to Nigeria one time and I quickly wrapped designer purse back in my box when I noticed the rapid fakness and knock offs around me. E.g. Hermes without the “R”, Michael Kors “Michael Kurs”, Fendi was looking like a hard rock. YSL haba it felt like the room was full of a conference promoting knock-off. They I visited another States and MK purse was sold on the floor like “red peppers” on the floor. Ok that was it for me & I died of laughter. I’do rather just carry a Jessica Simpson purse or Betsey Johnson than parade myself looking silly. If u wanna do knock-off, do it right. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.

      • Timothy January 9, 2016 at 9:27 pm

You all are just as bad as the people wearing the fake items. So you expend your time and energy looking people up and down and trying to determine if their items are fake. Get a life! How pathetic.

I am not into designer stuff mostly because i believe i can spend the same amount travelling, which is my favourite thing to do. But to each his own, if people wanna spend money buying fake items and posting them on IG, its their problem not mine.

      • Californiabawlar January 9, 2016 at 10:18 pm

So people like you actually exist?! You size people up from their cars to their shoes?! Just to see if things correlate….Ta! Girlfriend, you need Jesus!

I remember my mum and I having a good laugh over me buying an expensive pair of sunglasses when my pangolo car was stuck at the mechanics, well I told my mum that if I was going to be jumping buses in the sun, my eyes needed proper protection. Lol. Simply put, I place value what I deem valuable per time.
Most people on this thread scare me! I wonder to what extent your quest and appreciation for material things matches your quest for wisdom, intellectual and eternal value… I wonder….

p.s. I’m not saying we need to be deep all the time o! But come on! This comment took the cake.

  • Agreed! January 9, 2016 at 7:35 am

I completely agree with you! I can’t get over people wanting to carry an ‘original fake’ like WTH?! I’d rather carry a ‘logoless’, unknown brand than a fake Birkin, LV or any other designer bag!

    • ATL’s finest January 9, 2016 at 8:35 pm

GBAM! Exactly! Lately , I do rather carry a regular purse and not a common name brand. Instead of trying to belong abegi no b by force.. I love it when I have my Zac Posen & folks are wondering what brand is this #PRICELESS#. Google & see the price.

  • Tee January 9, 2016 at 7:44 am

Sir, I’m a 100% sure there’s no wait list for a Birkin Hermes purse. Quite sure, unless it’s a collectible item( it’s so rare, it may be the only few made, hence sold at the auction).
Birkins start off at 3500 pre-owned sir , brand new depending on the year maybe 2013 cost about 5000 or so.
Me I don’t know where you’re getting your info from. And you don’t have to be super rich or wealthy to own one.
I don’t want to go on a rant, and I’m in no way rich, but when you put your mind to something like saving. You can afford Birkin, 3000 dollars? Work over time if it’s that serious.
Balmain ? Ehn that’s H&M Balmain slight less expensive , when barneys, saks, fifth avenue and co are having sales. You’ll be amazed at how prices drop. There’s also something called pre-owned, if you can’t afford a brand new designer brand, it’s pre-owned but the real deal.(me I shop at the thrift store , eBay, tradesy and co, I’m cheap)
Obviously wearing a rip-off of an item is wonky. But to each his own. Let them wear whatever makes them happy. Biko . It’s 2016.
There are people starving in Syria
    El Chapo has been caught!!!
Tension between Saudi and Iran(maybe Iraq)
    Gun control problems in US
Trump talking out of his ass
    Bro it’s 2016! Prioritize.

    • Fashionista January 9, 2016 at 11:37 am

Smarty pants, I believe we can tackle all topics you’ve listed. Ever heard of multitasking?

    • Babybabybabyooo January 9, 2016 at 11:50 am

You’re not lying jare. Saks even has Saks off fifth which is basically their online outlet store. Things are always on sale for like 70% off, even Barneys has Barney’s warehouse. Let’s not even forget the outlet malls, Nigerians make special trips to the U.S to buy designer goods at highly discounted prices. If you have a good eye for bargains you will make out like a bandit if you shop at the right stores at the right time.

    • ElessarisElendil January 9, 2016 at 1:53 pm

There are people starving in Syria: Because certain countries in the world felt the ideal thing was to help rebels topple a country’s legitimate government(contravening international law BTW).

El Chapo has been caught!!!: Does not change the price of tomatoes here.

Tension between Saudi and Iran(maybe Iraq): Rooting for war, but it won’t come to that, last thing Iran needs is to give the freedum bringers an excuse. Too bad for our national coffers though.

Gun control problems in US: Meh, people are using the same logic they used during the pre-prohibition era, even though the logic for banning alcohol made/makes more sense, we all saw how that worked out. Obama is creating problems for Hilary, many Americans are single issue voters, should stop portraying the instruments as bad and work on reducing the access bad people have to it. The media+President is being biased about the whole thing, New years day 10 people were shot in Chicago within 30 minutes of the new year…………they were no tears.

Trump talking out of his ass: We only say that because it affects us as potential immigrants, most of his positions though will benefit the world at large. A less interventionist America for example. If America stops taking immigrants or ban people of arriving to their country, the world won’t stop rotating. They’re obvious problems with unchecked immigration(BTW we Nigerians need to peep the poverty levels and population growth rates of our neighbours), as long as any such discussion is framed as racist otherwise reasonable people will keep being driven to the far right. Guy how you no mention the Cologne attacks and the media blackout for 4 days!! Later people will come and be talking about how ‘free’ and unbiased the Western media is.

Bro it’s 2016! Prioritize.: Not everytime serious topics, occasionally unwind and laugh at chessy articles on fakes.

      • Mz Socially Awkward…. January 10, 2016 at 12:52 am

Re this recent tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran… Is it terrible that my ears pricked up more than a little when the news broke? I’m a horrible human being, abi? ?? These falling oil prices are turning some of us into self-serving monsters, mehnnnn ?

    • Tope January 9, 2016 at 2:04 pm

Birkins cost wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more than that .

    • ify January 9, 2016 at 3:51 pm

mbanu! he is very correct, there is a wait list for Birkin bags and they do not retail for $5000 sweety. Don’t know where you got your info from even preowned Birkin bags dont retail for $5000.

      • princess1 lolo January 9, 2016 at 8:34 pm

Thank you!!!!! i saw 3000! and screamed..even on websites like potter luxury and fashionphile where they carry pre owned birkin’s the cheapest i have seen there is $8000 and thats even a fairly okay one not excellent condition! babe doesn’t have any idea of what she is saying. But now a days you don’t necessary have to be on a waiting list , tons of online luxury stores have pre owned and brand new birkins.

    • Bizola January 9, 2016 at 5:07 pm

Mr Tee you can lie o, what birkin starts from 5k even on eBay. Walk in to any Hermes store in London and Dubai not Paris or and tell me if you can walk in and buy a birkin or Kelly. There’s definitely a waiting list for s birkin so shut up with that lie Biko. In as much as I agree with EFE, I think he is way too petty for a guy. Live and let live, the phrase in Lagos is fake it till you make it. The number of knock off chanels I saw in Lagos this Christmas was scary, but did I go scrutinising any body. Wear your fake, I wear my original, everybody goes home happy. There are indeed more important issues waiting to be discussed at the moment. Don’t try to bring him down because you are the champion of fake items. My two cents??. Madam I know 100% because hermes is my father and they make it in my back yard. I am very sure you don’t own one.

    • Tee January 9, 2016 at 6:55 pm

My sentiments exactly!! You can walk into a store and buy a birkin off the self. It was years ago that you had to be on waiting list but now it’s available in store shelves. Plus one can always buy a pre-owned one. He’s just trying to feel among with this pist abeg, so grab a seat! Eating dinner and trying to figure out if one’s watch is real? Pschew you’re clearly jobless.

    • missy January 9, 2016 at 9:50 pm

You can get other pre owned hermes bag for even 1400 dollars but the only way you can purchase an authentic preowned kelly or birkin for 3000- 5000 is if someone that love you so much is selling theirs to you. Portero luxxry and the real real are the best and cheapest site to buy authethic luxxry goods and birkins cost way above 5000 dollars. I am a personal shopper believe me, if you are getting a birkin that cheap then there is a 80% chance it is not authentic.

    • Blue January 11, 2016 at 7:33 pm

@Tee, back in the day there used to be a waiting list for Birkin Bags. Due to the popularity of the bags nowadays, I am not sure if those waiting lists still exist.

  • T January 9, 2016 at 7:53 am

I totally get you…but aren’t there more important things going on in this world than this??? Sorry, maybe it’s just me right now watching CNN

    • concerned January 9, 2016 at 2:17 pm

Then maybe you should be visiting CNN’s website instead of a fashion and lifestyle blog? Just a suggestion…

  • Style101 January 9, 2016 at 7:57 am

Absolutely nailed it. This is a fantastic read and truly spot on. Wearing fakes, speaks volume of not only your class but your self esteem. I know many celebrities even Hollywood who we wear Top shop and make it fabulous it dosent mean they can’t afford balmain! Most international celebrities flaunt designers because they are given those things free!!!! It’s almost as classless for our local artistes to be flaunting international designs as if that’s what makes them classy or rich when you buy it with your hard earned money and are not paid to advertise them!!! Get some brains! Nigeria is now a big and known market stop advertising brands for free and stop buying fakes! I respect artistes like tuface , omotola , Asa etc… These are artistes who subtly wear or carry designers but only flaunt or advertise local designers…

  • Adeiza January 9, 2016 at 8:13 am

    Brilliant write up. Apt

  • ramat January 9, 2016 at 8:24 am

Nice piece……. but couldn’t help wondering the kinda body-twisting and neck-stretching moves that it took to note all these discrepancies in the Patek Philippe. Mr. Writer, your olofofo is on point mehn….

    • naija_doc January 9, 2016 at 9:58 pm

if you know watches, you wouldn’t necessarily have to “body-twist” to notice. its unfortunate that Nigerians cant comprehend. this write up is on point. when something is nice, it catches your attention, and with that, comes a closer look. you can spot some fake rolexes a mile away, if you know about Rolex. stop trying to criticize and understand the point the writer was making. fake is fake, and it lessens how you are presenting yourself. buy authentic low brand, and forget the fake high end stuff.

  • Hahahahahaha January 9, 2016 at 8:48 am

  • Vidavi January 9, 2016 at 9:07 am

Real Patek Philippe watch: a gazillion dollars
    Fake Patek Philippe watch:$100
    Minding your own business: $0.00

  • Jackter January 9, 2016 at 9:56 am

We need a dislike button here Bella. As much as the author has said the truth, no one cares if the celebrity is wearing the real deal or he is fooling himself. Do whatever makes you happy please. NEXT!!!!!

  • Jeff January 9, 2016 at 10:05 am

Choose free and love you life. Focus on things that matter. Put that money towards paved roads in Nigeria. Why have an expensive watch when there is no electricity.

  • lotus flower January 9, 2016 at 10:19 am

Wow, so he wrote an entire article about fake items without mentioning the most important issue–that fakes/ knock-offs are an infringement on the rights of the designer. In many countries it is even illegal to sell fake products. Yes, even selling a faked 200$ item is a crime!

While I agree that knock-offs are wrong, this is nothing but a superficial article about a superficial practice. The only thing he mentioned was how “trashy” it looks, and the “great lengths” people go to purchase designer items. *barf*. No substance in this article at all.

    • Thatgidigirl January 9, 2016 at 12:56 pm

Thank you!!!! I thought he was going to say something about the evils of piracy, instead he’s yapping on and on about being trashy. Trashy is the condeacending tone of this article and the lies in it….talking about noticing the dial and leather in a Patek watch, was the artist sitting on your head? Abi space no dey between the tables for Fahrenheit? How many Patek watches do you own that you are a master on the thickness and roundness of a Patek watch? And to think he has a say on designer items when he has been wearing one Hermes belt since before the Nigerian independence.
Jor o! Efe allow us pls.

In another note, how vain is this writer and for a guy you seem to be too involved in people’s purchase and choice.
I don’t see what the deal is, I recently got a fake slippers for christmas and I rocked it, I obviously can’t afford the original and i “gots” to have it and I did (Sue Me). Some of these fakes outlive the so called original, it’s all hype and name.
Wear whatever makes you happy, life’s too short for price tag and brand names.
This writer is definitely going to be an exhausting boyfriend, on a date he would continuously point out fakes and yab people……….phewww, I can’t deal.

  • Theredcarpetexperience January 9, 2016 at 10:47 am

I don’t think fake fashion items make you trashy, instead they make you another business man’s mannequin. Wink! Wearing fakes is just a story that has been told by designers whose works are being replicated.
First always differentiate Luxury from fashion. Especially when you name luxury brands like Patek Phillipe Nautilus. Luxury is never just an object, it is related to business brands and great business models. Luxury is not completed replicable, it is limited and customized, and it is desirable. It is not just expensive, it gives value, is an investment and price premium is important.
So since Luxury is desire, is pleasure and has the right price for the value proposition. It is not easy to get or to understand, it is not for everyone. Luxury is not fast in the way product is delivered to the market, nor in the way you do consume it. Luxury as an industry is associated with strong branding, superior quality and timelessness this is what makes luxury different from fashion.
While we have high fashion brands like the Christian Louboutin’s, Hermes, Versace, that might be expensive and while the characteristics of high fashion is to be fashionable, it still goes out of fashion after a season. Whereas luxury is timeless, they are iconic and they last for long, contemporary but timeless.
Thus if fashion is every individual’s statement or means of self-expression and it is unique to any induvial. Why shouldn’t anyone be free or allowed to rock a freaking so called “fake fashion item” if that is what they can afford and flaunt it.
In the first place creating the dream factor is important in the fashion business and communication has played a role in conveying this dream factor, which is why you have a lot of people who want to be identified in the category of owing high end goods either by hook or crook. Now whether these people are seen or perceived as fashionable or trashy, they care less. At the end of the day, I see it all as a marketing plus to brands who their items are being replicated. Still goes back to selling desire.
When you have a mindset of fashion being disposable and affordable then you know that people would purchase whatever they desire whether original or fake. At the end of the day, designers churn out collections every season, so who wants to be a dumping ground or be a victim of consumerism, which is what most of us are anyway. No one wants to be tied to something that is stagnant. People want to be able to purchase something at a moment’s notice and it has to be affordable.
People want to look like wealth and look luxurious so if they create a makeup of that luxurious lifestyle, I do not think it should be termed trashy. It’s their state of mind at the time of their life. Most times they end up affording the original in the long run.
That is their own way of showing of their experiential and aspirational desires. Now it’s one thing to say they are trashy and another thing to educate them on the concept behind luxury and high end fashion items. Abeg! #leavetrashforlawma.
If our fashion culture is to wear fake fashion goods from Asia, it would take a whole lot of schooling to re-orientate the entire fashion populace on why they should wear original. Ordinarily our local tailors suffer from copycats let alone high end designers. This school is for another day. Biko!

    Cheers.

  • Babybabybabyooo January 9, 2016 at 11:43 am

Another idiot with a superiority complex. His write up is not so much about celebrities and people wearing knock offs. It’s more about him telling everyone indirectly how superior he is, and how he has such discerning taste, and funds to match. I see you, you’re as transparent as Olamide and Don Jazzy’s fight…the ultimate goal is self promotion. Congrats we now know your name, oya run along

    • Ashley January 9, 2016 at 12:13 pm

IMO inferiority complex. Is he saying that hermes belt he rocked everyday for 10 years was real? The gucci sneakers were real. GTFOH. Shallow post by this shallow man.

    • ElessarisElendil January 9, 2016 at 1:32 pm

But? But? Are being superior, having discerning tastes and promoting your self bad things??

I’m sure their things you’re great at don’t you promote your superior knowledge in those things? To the best of my perhaps limited understanding isn’t that still the way to get ahead in this world of ours?

If you’re going to criticise for criticism’s sake at-least make it funny.

      • ElessarisElendil January 9, 2016 at 1:34 pm

  • Adaisy January 9, 2016 at 12:48 pm

Lol well apparently this guy is speaking the truth. It’s just silly posing with fake stuff trying to oppress people on Instagram and pretend. That’s luvibg a fak life. If you must buy fake let people know its fake make humor out of it. Trust me people will appreciate it much more. Or rather buy from a high street fashion store. Nigerians form too much. Be yourself no need for lies. But realty I don’t get how the writer got to see that guys watch at the Fahrenheit place he went to with friends. Indeed how long was his neck, how close was he? Weird. I feel that was over exaggerated. White people are forever simple and don’t bite off more than they can chew they don’t form. When will Nigerians learn this? People ranting off this post most likely buy fake and lie that it’s original but I must say this writer spoke some truths even though I feel he may have written it in a way that he wouldn’t sound too condescending.

    • l,knell January 9, 2016 at 3:35 pm

  • yoga mind your business January 9, 2016 at 12:50 pm

i couldn’t even finish the article cause i was so disgusted by how nosey and foolish this guy sounds. so you’ll really waste your time by examining what someone is wearing? i tire oh!! the lady who dates you should be sure she’s doing herself a favour to be constantly judged by what she wears whether she can afford the designer things or not. you’re the kind of guy that will rather date someone based on what she wears!!! abeeg leave people to wear what they can and stop judging! people like rukky sanda that looks very razz and ratchet with all the designer things she has….. please you have better fish to fry and stop being to nosey!!! nawah oh!!!

  • prince January 9, 2016 at 12:50 pm

Its low self esteem and lack of confidence in your personality that makes you go for fake just as he said to belong, and yes, you’ll surely belong to the FAKE CLASS.

Naija Celebs have issues, instead of them to be thinking of how they’ll improve themselves in their various field, they’ll be thinking of how to ‘SHOW OFF’ with fake stuffs that’s why a so-called A-LIST artist would come to a show just to come and play CD and be jumping on stage like an idiot instead of performing to the audience LIVE, he’ll be fooling himself.

Anyways, priority defers. Their problem is wearing fake D&G, TOM FORD etc rather than wearing an original MADE’IN’NIGERIA or Zara and their likes.

  • Oma N. January 9, 2016 at 1:10 pm

God bless u o @dipps.Sometimes it scares me to move back to Naija sef.So much name dropping,so much I sabi pass u,so much “I wear original u wear fake so therefore I’m bigger than u”.I don’t think pple who live abroad even bother much about designer this designer that, but Efe tomi or whatever carry it on his head like gala.Oshi oda.
There are different types of pple, some can’t be caught wearing fake while some don’t mind much.It depends on ur social circle or status. Its no big deal pretty boy.A Kim Kardashian can not afford to carry fake but a Mercy Aigbe doesn’t mind much and she carries it damn well.Ko Si big deal.

  • ElessarisElendil January 9, 2016 at 1:29 pm

He made perfect sense, I mean it got a bit weird how obsessed he was with the guy’s watch, but he made sense! Dare I say “common sense” even.

Have a feeling most of those bashing him just read the title.

  • Amh January 9, 2016 at 1:43 pm

How much does your socalled celebrity earns. Why wont they wear fakes. High end goods are very expensive. So 90 percent carry fakes all over the face. 90k hermes bag fake. 120k dior bag all na fake. Mr writer. You sound very vain yourself. Can you afford Patek wristwatch? Let the fakito celebs continue to fake it. At least it makes them happy. And i presume increase their self worth to themselves. Cut your coat according to your wallet.

  • cleo January 9, 2016 at 3:58 pm

Omo, i cant even deal. See me looking at the price of the items and i am like that will offset my school fees and fund my business. All the money for cloth. Maybe when i join Forbes, i could.
For now i do aliexpress, high street shops and bend down select.

  • jojo January 9, 2016 at 4:39 pm

@ Bronx, the thing tire me oo. That was how I bought an LV belt for 130 euro during summer sales. And someone saw it and asked how much I bought it. I told him and he said it must be a fake cos it’s too cheap.

  • Rose January 9, 2016 at 4:59 pm

Am I the only one that really doesn’t care about people wearing brands or not…fake or original…I just don’t care.. My own is if it looks good on you I notice and ask you were you got it…if it doesn’t I no dey even notice. A friend was telling me how her stuff was expensive and original and all that…the whole time I was just thinking eyaaa this thing that is sooo ugly…. Anyway me nothing concern me…whatever rocks anyone’s boat…I have my own life to focus on biko

  • seun January 9, 2016 at 5:12 pm

Girls that can make high end brands look trashy-Linda ikeji, Britney Spears, Beyonce, Anne idibia, inI edo. Girls that can make a trash bag look expensive- Rihanna, mocheddah, Beverly Naya , solange etc.

No be their fault na so dem born them and life’ s not fair.

    • Ezee January 10, 2016 at 10:35 am

Remove Beyonce from that your yeye list abeg!

      • Krasavitsa January 10, 2016 at 12:46 pm

        Thank you!

      • seun January 10, 2016 at 4:13 pm

Whether you like it or not beyonce always looks trashy. Some thing is always off. She always has that ghetto/country look going on. She just doesn’t have it when it comes to fashion and style. There was a time I saw her carrying a Hermes Kelly purse aND I thought it was a purse from h&m.

Sorry I hurt your feelings. There are just women that are born that way and she is one of those women.

  • Krasavitsa January 9, 2016 at 5:21 pm

I’ve knock-off CL shoes which I bought simply because they’re beautiful. I couldn’t (still can’t) afford to buy originals. When it’s time for an occasion, I dust my fake loubs and strut my stuff. Ain’t got time for anyone’s opinion about how classy I look. God created Aliexpress for people like me. Btw, oga writer with your eagle eye vision; you need to know that money never buys class, neither does the lack of it make one trashy.

    • randommer January 9, 2016 at 8:06 pm

      pls which store

      • Krasavitsa January 10, 2016 at 12:52 pm

    • ATL’s finest January 9, 2016 at 8:15 pm

??????????? U Don kill me with laugh.. God bless U! I’m telling U I have a FAM friend her house is like post office. Always buying designers and when u see it on her, her body type just make u HATE the dress or shoe. She still look tacky.

    • bbbb January 9, 2016 at 10:20 pm

that got me “oga with your eagle eye vision” LMAO!!!

  • mary January 9, 2016 at 5:52 pm

this is another Freeze who thinks that him alone wears the real Rolex and every other celeb wears fake. the struggle is real. i know that a lot of our Nigerian Celebs take this designer stuffs so serious that everyone of them struggles to carry them, even if they travel to Dubai to get the knock offs, all na designers, there’s some sort of competition among them, which makes them want to have these brands by all means so that they can belong to a particular circle. well, to each Aboki to his kettle, whoever can afford the real deal, good, whoever can afford knock off, good.

  • Eliot January 9, 2016 at 6:28 pm

    Why the hatred

  • Finally!Finally January 9, 2016 at 6:59 pm

  • ada January 9, 2016 at 7:35 pm

for christ sake what is our business of who or what wears what or buys what?,,why is this even a subject to discuss..spend unnecessary time looking at what people are wearing instead of trying to continue to be a better person..this is why people look down on others. they wont even recognize ones that have money.. if people feel they need to wear fake designers let it be afterall it is their life and its def not your money their using..plz lets stop all these negative vibes.

  • makka_a January 9, 2016 at 7:39 pm

all these people writing articles in the comment section, abeg o!

  • Alan January 9, 2016 at 7:45 pm

This thesis sounds like you seem mad that you are not recognized for wearing what you consider real designers. Are you offended the fakers get praised while you receive none? What exactly is this diatribe about? You sound hurt.

  • randommer January 9, 2016 at 8:06 pm

    pls which store

  • Rest January 9, 2016 at 8:50 pm

Both original and fake versions were made in China, so what’should the big deal. The only wrong/bad thing has to do with the economic consequences of counterfeits. I am not even sure that Buffet, the oracle of Omaha, has a PP watch…the man is so rich and sensible. Even Michelle Obama rocks items from cheap stores like Target and mixes them with expensive designers like Jason Wu. To each, his/her own. Personally, I am a clearance shopper and my mantra is Thou shall NEVER pay full price for anything! Show me your designer and I will show my retirement account.

    • Ngozi January 9, 2016 at 11:06 pm

The big deal is that its illegal

    • clearance shopper January 10, 2016 at 5:20 am

God bless you o. Me too I don’t pay full price for my stuff. I always start my shopping from clearance. Mi o le waku.

    • BM January 10, 2016 at 7:29 am

Yaaaassssss honey! *snaps* exactly what I was going to say! Never one to have a “white is always right” mentality, but I feel this very issue is one of the reasons why black people are not able to create wealth. I’m not talking about having money. I’m saying wealth…..money that grows, you have a fantastic nest egg and keeps producing for generations to come. We are so hung up on being flashy! As you said, the Buffets, Gates’ and Zuckerbergs of this world don’t seem to care about this. Half the time Zuckerberg looks like hobo Dan. ….lol. Jk. Not saying you shouldn’t look good but this designer seems more focused about letting us know he knows how to detect a “fake”. Let people be! And people, the moment you emancipate yourself from trying to impress everyone, the moment you really start living

  • Timothy January 9, 2016 at 9:57 pm

I dont have a problem with the write-up as everyone has a right to air their opinion.

I dont wear expensive items cos partly because i dont really believe in spending all that much on clothes and other relates items, and i have always believed that you can look good without spending millions. I personally enjoy travelling and i do my best to do so within a “reasonable” budget. But seriously, to each his own!

The one question i would have loved to ask the writer is that “did you enjoy your dinner or night out with your friend”? Since you spent all the time checking out what someone else was wearing and trying to determine if the items were fake or original……na wah o

    Biko, let them be jare.

  • Booobu Fashionista January 9, 2016 at 10:02 pm

Ashley i have been waiting for this comment. Dear Efe,
We remember your fake Hermes belt on this same BellaNaija oh. Should be in the archives. Is it because you have been kissing Jennifer Obayuwana’s ass on Instagram that you want to now claim watch connoisseur? Uber style my ass.????? sigh.. A true style creative would have pointed out the copyright infringement first, if you have traveled widely especially to European capitals, you would know fake goods are impounded and fines must be paid . Talking gibberish, next time research your topic well before you come. Naija and half baked creatives. Person done suffer ….

    • Babybabybabyooo January 10, 2016 at 2:58 pm

Judging from your pic ebe like you yourself made in China. Wey the original?

  • kadara January 9, 2016 at 10:48 pm

Nigerians hate the truth, if you are wearing fakes you are trashy and you are a criminal. Stop patronizing people that are stealing someone else’s work or else karma is a bitch . Nigerians are religious but lack integrity. If you wear fakes you are no better than a thief! if you claim to have confidence wear the authentic of what you can afford with pride. Only fake people wear fake things

  • Ghen Ghen January 9, 2016 at 11:08 pm

I got my hermes Kelly for $12,000 after waiting 4 years! To carry am sef Na wahala. The opening & closing and padlock tire me so I stick to my MCM.
Rolex makes the air king which starts @$5000. Save money and buy. Meanwhile, Loubs, manolo, Charlotte Olympia and co have sales.
If you want to be truly exclusive, buy brands like bottega veneta, Sonia rykiel, delvaux, and co.

  • anonymous January 9, 2016 at 11:12 pm

I totally understand where he’s coming from, like someone said, if you’re wearing fake, let people know it’s fake, don’t come up in our faces selling us BS!! That’s how Genevieve wore Celine jacket that doesn’t exist. Or those celebs wearing louboutins that were never made. Another “celeb” was arguing with me that her “black” Alma bag was original when LV never made black Alma bags. Its not a crime to wear fake but don’t bring it to my face like its original, have some SHAME. Sigh

  • SOLO ACT January 10, 2016 at 12:59 am

EFE plz not all of us have sugar daddy that can buy us original oo! maybe if you can hook us up we will appreciate! thanks

  • YesIsaifitandWhat? January 10, 2016 at 3:39 am

Nigerians have the lowest self esteem on the planet, they are they only group of people whom due to inferiority complex feel the need to fake accent and wear designers they can’t even pronounce to feel an ounce sense of worth in this world. Or accepted in their society. Faking it to make it. 90% of Naija I know are like that. I mean all u have to do is follow any Naija celeb Instagram. Ridiculous. Beyonce one of the finest richest woman in the world does not even act so bush and crass

THANK GOD I AIN’T ONE OYALL. YALL ARE SAS CASES. LIFE IS NOT ALL ABOUT WEARING DESIGNER WEARING. NO WONDER NIGERIA IS THE WAY IT IS, FCUKED UP PRIORITIES TO FEEL IMPORTANT. ANY FOREIGNER WHO HAS WORKED WITH OR ATTENDED School WITH A NIGERIAN KNOWS WHAT AM TALKING ABOUT

    • anonymous January 10, 2016 at 9:38 am

  • Miranda Priestly January 10, 2016 at 8:28 am

    Go get a sugar daddy!
I have had several and they give you their amex black card to shop. No limits, no expense spared.
I have the holy grail of bags-Hermes birkin, constance, kelly. Chanel_ 2.5 reissue, classic flap bag, boy bag, GST & the others. Dior-Lady & others.
Don’t judge me please, i only date divorced or widowed ones. (Thank you).
Now i am married to one of my divorced ones and i am still balling.
Before you start screaming with righteous indignation- you no holy pass!
Don’t judge me… The bible says judge not!

    • Babybabybabyooo January 10, 2016 at 2:54 pm

This is called prostitution, asewoship….banging your way to a Birkin. Get thee behind us satan

    • Boom January 10, 2016 at 7:29 pm

What else does the bible say? O.o

    • ElessarisElendil January 11, 2016 at 2:56 am

Miranda Priestly would be ashamed of you!

      • Babybabybabyooo January 11, 2016 at 7:51 pm

        lol I know na

  • Blueberry January 10, 2016 at 8:53 am

Hm bros, give me the $10,000 to $80,000 for that Birkin and I would show you a house I can build back home, in which I can enjoy the vacay with family.
Define your priorities in life. Remember them always. It can be ur education, business, seeing your siblings through school etc. You can please yourself once in a while. As in look up the price of a lux item that u will love, save for it (a whole year if necessary), then buy it. Keep doing so for a long time and you would have a little collection in ur wardrobe. Never ruin yourself bcse u want to belong or impress.

  • Elohor Henrietta January 10, 2016 at 9:12 am

I think we should probe Ini Edo’s Instagram page. She is always flaunting Dolce and Garbana, Hermes, Loubotin. And in my mind, I’m like does she have to tell the world? If it truly is, we the fans willl confess and admire her more for it. I’m so sure Genevieve, Omotola, and Rita Dominic wear designers but they don’t explicitly talk about it all the time the way Ini Edo does. Abeg let’s probe them. It is highly recommended.

    • Idomagirl January 10, 2016 at 5:07 pm

Probe kwa? Abeg it’s not that serious.

  • marves January 10, 2016 at 9:26 am

  • Ruth January 10, 2016 at 11:56 pm

I guess I am not the only one who considers it ok to buy brand less and still look fab.
I consider fashion to be revolving
    It changes with season
So why waste a lot for something that would look stupid in a few years to come.
I rock my primark, h and m sports direct, etc with high esteem and still get a lot of compliments

  • Tootoottoot January 11, 2016 at 10:04 am

I remember when I bought a fake Gucci bag, the strap snapped. Had to get it fixed, but was too scared to take if yo Gucci. Took it to roadside shoe repair man in China town. The guy was begging me to take it to Gucci that he was scared he might ruin the bag. I told him to sharrap and get to work, na you dash me bag?? I swear I saw sweat drip from his forehead with every stitch lmaoooooo.

  • Grace January 11, 2016 at 11:47 am

I dont understand why someone will go out only to go observe what another is wearing(be it fake or not)we should learn to mind our business sometimes. SMH

  • Rose okwy January 11, 2016 at 5:39 pm

Nope, wearing a very tight ‘blouse’ in the name of jacket makes you trashy!!

  • meanwhile… January 12, 2016 at 12:25 am

Meanwhile, There are super talented designers in Nigeria, who given a chance (and the money…) would make you super fabulous. But we’d rather give all that money to those who don’t need it and don’t really work with Africans in mind… But hey, what do I know? The cousin Nkechi suffers to be patronized, yet we give hundreds of dollars to Balmain… #nawaho…

  • Abominable snow girl June 12, 2016 at 9:22 pm

@tootoottoot, you are so funny. My ribs are actually creaking at your comment, couldn’t stop laughing.
