While the 2016 Oscars awards didn’t give much attention to diversity, the 2016 MTV Movie Awards seems to be doing the exact opposite.

The record-breaking movie Star Wars leads this year’s nomination list, with 11 nominations including the “Movie of The Year” and “Ensemble Cast Categories”. Actress Lupita Nyong’o was nominated for “Best Virtual Performance” in Star wars while British- Nigerian actor, John Boyega was also nominated in the “Breakthrough Awards Category”.

“Straight Outta Compton” received nominations for “Movie of the Year” and “True Story” while its star actor O’Shea Jackson Jr. nominated for “Breakthrough Performance”.

Other actors like Michael B. Jordan (Creed) Will Smith (Concussion), Kevin Hart and Samuel L. Jackson were also nominated.

      its a fun award. its not serious. its a fan voted award. fan voted awards are not taken seriously in hollywood. look at the categories, best kiss, best fight. its fun and playful.

      any award that is voted by the public shouldn’t be taken seriously thats why I will never take the amvca seriously.

    Like someone said it shouldn’t be taken with seriousness. Its a fan voted award meaning the best may not be the one to go hope with the plaque.
    Just like the AMVCA, that is why I really have to stand with Charles Novia on removing some sensitive category out from been voted for.
