After the heated debate! The video is OUT. Check on it!

The video is tastelyfully done and Dare has strong vocals and is indeed talented. It can only get better. I do, however, have to agree with Sugabelly on the use of ‘Black’ African/Nigerian models in music videos, whether this one or others. For the most part, representations of ‘Black’ African/Nigerian models in music videos have been quite negative. For a very powerful video like this in terms of lyrics, vocals and overall art direction, it would have been even more powerful to have a gorgeous Black sister play the role of his love who it appears is leaving soon. Dare I love very much the part where you are writing the langauge of music on the scales. Such attention to detail really elevates yoru work into an artist. Overall again, very nicely done.

Excuse all the typo errors. “Tastefully done,” “really elevates “your” work “as” an artist.

Jeeez!!! This is fantastic…finally we have a music video that’s not generic. Finally!!! Kudos Dare. Well done…Thanks Bella for posting this…wow…x

nice vid nd all but d song…mehn! dnt think i lykd it dat much, its not very appealing, dnt think I’ll sell in naij, but all in all he tried.x

    November 18, 2008 at 10:05 pm

But the video wasn’t evn shot in Nigeria. Even though it’s quality (made in South Africa) nothing in Nigeria has changed unfortunately. Can someone invest in a studio?

  9. Dorah

    November 18, 2008 at 10:23 pm

The video is nice…Not feeling his voice though, but it seems like he’s doing big things. Hopefully, he’ll use a Naija girl in his video. These cats need to be repping Naij to the fullest.

  10. Dorah

    November 18, 2008 at 10:27 pm

He should be on Broadway…He sounds classically trained. He doesn’t have the typical RnB voice. It could work to his advantage or not.

  11. Sugabelly

    November 18, 2008 at 10:46 pm

It’s a very powerful video, and beautifully executed. Dare does have a solid voice, and the concept and message of the video is simple and purely conveyed. My verdict is: VERY VERY Well Done.

    HOWEVER, my statement still stands.

  12. Dorah

    November 18, 2008 at 10:52 pm

Yeah…I just listened to a couple of his songs on You Tube….
He’s sooooooooooo Broadway material. I doubt he’d be able to pop off in the States. His voice is a bit harsh for RnB, imho. But then again, his video rocks,. Most def one of the best Naija produced music videos I’ve ever seen.

  13. Anon

    November 18, 2008 at 10:55 pm

You articulated what I had in my mind! He has a strong beautiful voice but I could not help but think Broadway…maybe it was intentional, because this is really the only song I really listened to from him. He sang it straight.. a lil more soul and oh my goodness he’ll blow us all away. If I were his producer, hmm, me and him water go pass garri at first sha but the end result would be all worth it! He has so much more than this in him and if he could just tap into it and bring it out… *sigh*

Dorah I heard you,…the video is probably overcompensating…. oh well

  15. Omorere

    November 18, 2008 at 11:57 pm

Very nice quality video. The song is nice and is haunting. Wonder why Dare and his producer decided to do it without any background vocals. I hope they have another version with BVs done by Dare or other singers. I can hear overlapping BVs wafting in and out of the song. I think that would take it to another level. I wish he would have used a Nigerian actress/model too but hey, she’s “not d girl” so maybe a Nigerian girl is! lol.

  16. Nne

    November 19, 2008 at 2:38 am

i liked the vid…i tried to stop watchin but i was curious to see where he would take it. well done. the song was haunting and the vid did match it. his voice was ok…abit harsh for the song i think. ?? . i also thot he shld have used a naija model/actress in the vid…but abeg….they would have brought their generic “eye-rolling” and nollywood standard overacting to it and that would have definately taken away from the simplicity and beauty of the song. well done dare. nice work.

the quality of the video is pretty good and that is it. Good attempt but nothing fits. his voice doesnt quite do the trick at some point, cant make heads or tail of the song and the video is just random. cant quite see the song in the video. (its like some vacation or ”honeymoon” and definitely not haunted neither does it portray a guy in a dilemma). 6 am wine on the table, roses on the bed in some kinda resort center. some random girl in bed, Dare up and writing music, no connection, no confrontation or contact, innocent looking girl walks around, goes swimming, bla bla bla . take a good look at omarions icebox, thats more like haunted(the clock ticking, heart beating, its night,by the fireplace looking ready to explode, sitting and waiting, getting ready to work smth out girl comes in late sits facing him, emotionless , suspicious and evasive look in her eyes while staring back at him ‘cold’ ) that says everything bout the song. didnt see that in Dare’s song…………. Leave out omarion, , djinees ‘ego’ and psquares ‘say ur love’ had better videos

dare was a coursemate of mine at unilag..creative art dept. unilag..we were taught alot.directing,music,graphics..u know art and the works…the video didnt do much and his voice seem to loose it somewhere along the line…..its not his best work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Anon

    November 20, 2008 at 12:09 pm

Im feeling you… very very random video..and the voice is a NO NO

  20. Anon

    November 20, 2008 at 12:14 pm

I think the video is very good in terms of the quality…the story line did not seem like there were any issues at first, and then randomly she they have a fight, she packs bags and she leaves… Storyline is not great and im still confused about his voice…He should have sold the song to Djinee or even TY bello…

  21. fi

    November 21, 2008 at 12:14 am

hmmmmmmmmmm…..the voice …i dont know about the voice and the video…not the best match…girl in the vid is haute….video is sick…..but the voice…..sighhh….goodluck to him anyway….

    November 22, 2008 at 4:08 am

me sha i like the song o, since y’all were dissing the vid, i just listened to the song without watching it, it was nice o jare

  24. dami

    November 25, 2008 at 9:04 pm

Video quality is off the hook, video content not so much but he gets an A for effort.

The song itself is really nice but I think It could have sounded better, it was a bit flat,BV’s would have helped and his voice is too Barry white ish for the song…should have been softer in some bits. I guess he wrote the song so all credit to him but i agree with the person who said he should have sold it to someone else…maybe

  25. anon

    November 26, 2008 at 2:19 am

i love everything about it! Its elegance and simplicity are breathtaking

  26. anon

    November 26, 2008 at 2:41 am

i think his point is they no longer have any connection. no matter how hard he tries to woo and romance her, its like doing it for someone who isnt there. i feel thats why the entire video there’s a disconnect between the two of them

  27. gladys

    November 26, 2008 at 8:27 am

THE POINT IS…..for the mood of the song,he intentionally sounded that way. I can tell you authouritatively that a softer rendition of that song would have done it no justice.I lecture music n i know what i’m talking about….u probably would not be here commenting in the first place cos the song will go unnoticed.

  28. gladys

    November 26, 2008 at 8:39 am

Video is not random at all…maybe you should listen to the lyrics again, watch the mood of the video. They are not supposed to have any connection…..well i guess some people grab fast n some dont.At least the story line is not the generic naija storyline.lovers in d park holding hands kissing, hugging etc.Thumbs up to whoever directed the video.

  29. WOW

    November 26, 2008 at 9:42 am

we’re still fighting over this video

  30. dorah

    November 26, 2008 at 5:49 pm

@gladys–you’re right. his voice should sound harsh at points to convey the conflicted emotions that he feels. however, dare’s voice still does not fit the song. it’s flat, even at the emotional parts with no soul almost. the video is great altogether, but his vocals are weak. he has raw talent tho. he needs to work with a vocal coach train his voice probably. so does banky w, etc.

    November 26, 2008 at 9:20 pm

Great video, HORRIBLE song. Reminds me of ‘Chocolate rain’, don’t remember the guy’s name. He was all over youtube. Terrible, especially at the end where he’s really emphasising and singing with that horrible opera style.

one man’s food is another man’s poison……I LOOOOOOOOOVE THIS SONG…Dare i love ur voice n dont u bother about the haters. They can only make u get better.Today its white chick, tomorrow its video direction, then voice.U guys should make up ur mind.

  33. dorah

    November 28, 2008 at 12:05 am

he’s talented..but he’s to work on controlling his voice. i almost feel like he was trying to be seal 2.0 or something. seal’s voice is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it’s amazing because he knows how to control it. dare could be amazing with the proper training. j’s comment was harsh, but truthful.

  34. dorah

    November 28, 2008 at 12:06 am

sorry…i meant that he has to work on controlling the sound and PITCH of his voice.

i just read the loooong argument and can i just say that although this video is amazing and the voice is awesome, it does seem a bit disappointing that a leading nigerian artist chose a caucasian person for his video. Guys be honest with yourself its a bit odd.

and as sugabelly said: yes i do have natural hair so let’s avoid all that crap.

I believe anyone should use whomever they want in their production.. you don’t have to be bias about it. It’s what’s you feel is better for you and your production.

    November 30, 2008 at 7:07 pm

i loved the video but hated it for personal reasons…the fact that my boyfriend posted it on facebook…it made me feel like hey “im not d girl”…we r in a LDR n i tend to pick up on vibes like that.So i guess on a good day i would have loved the song but i dont cos of ….whatever.Nice one Dare

  41. Lee

    December 1, 2008 at 1:50 am

Nice video. For the people starting the natural hair etc argument…please stop the madness. Africans are not on that tip and its a waste of time and energy…lets appreciate our diversity and the fact that we can do whatever with our hair ok.

i have been a dare art fan from his days at cool fm…but im still trying to understand wat the song is all about…im all for south african video’s if they make sense, case in point mo hits (booty call) but my guy d’ didnt try wit dis one… sure the sences wit the piano was cool but i jus felt something was lacking
d’ baby u can so much beta..

  43. ladi

    December 1, 2008 at 9:57 pm

Better for your production? His audience is supposedly African so if not for colonial mentality why????? The lady is probably White or Indian South African bu couldn’t they find a black or coloured model that his audience could relate to?

  44. Yummy Mummy

    December 2, 2008 at 9:23 pm

This is such a great video… I really don’t know what the fuss is about. The story is obvious and totally matches what he is saying. As for using a caucasian lady – people come on!!! In this day of mixed race relationships being on the increase, really shouldn’t be a problem. Have only read the first page of arguments and didn’t bother to read the rest. Kudos to Dare for breaking from the usual boring naija videos and doing something that makes one think and looks beautiful at the same time.

    December 3, 2008 at 2:10 pm

Great song…horrible Video…..I have never been a Dare fan and this reiteriates why!!
The concept is sooo typical….I mean after P square did there video in SA everyone has jumped on the bloody band wagon and done the same…O-R-I-G-I-N-A-L-I-T-Y….Please let Nigerian musicians start to be original…..
I mean do we have ANY video in Nigeria that compares to Freshly Ground’s Do bee Video?? NOooo cos we lack or choose not to tap into our Originality…..
I am not dissappointe in the Video cos truthfully I didnt and dont expect much from Darey…..

    December 3, 2008 at 4:04 pm

For someone with so much potential, Dare has not delivered up to par, his lineage for one as well as his first hand exposure to entertainment in Cool FM b4 even joining mainstream music should help him exceed expectations, but do we see any of that??? Nooooooo!!! Our boi is busy trying to dabble into fuji, r n b, hihop and whaat not, with the project fame platform, the world was his to take by storm. He should decide what genre of music he wants to specialise in,stick to it and carve a niche for himself like his dad did, maybe someday he’ll be able to deliver an album we consider worth spending our hard earned doosh on

  47. Dark Knight

    December 4, 2008 at 9:26 pm

Una don come again o! Well quite honestly everybody’s opinion is valid and should be respected. But hey that’s all it is…opinions! Dare keep doing it and that goes to everybody trying their best. It will only get better. Long live Naija!!! Nice video jare!

  49. anon

    December 5, 2008 at 8:48 am

why r u so angry? Or do u know dare personally? U honestly strike me as either a musician in the same genre or an agent/publicist to one.Elevate…dont hate.I can see a tremendous improvement in Dare’s work. Why do we have to dwell in d past? This is annoying….Gosh!!!

  50. Demi

    December 11, 2008 at 5:00 pm

The vid is almost entirely indoors…..yd he have 2 go 2 SA….crappy video.and the song would have swnded better with a beat.

  55. nike

    December 15, 2008 at 12:59 pm

yeah,i totally get your point, you have a good eye for detail.tbh,i didnt notice all that the first time i watched the video, but now that you mentioned it,i see what you mean.the video is completely random and is not connected to the song in anyway, but most people seem to miss that because of the video quality.,which is quite impressive,i must say.

  56. nike

    December 15, 2008 at 1:11 pm

why is it that when people say they dont like something, they are referred to as ‘haters’?just wondering though, isnt everyone entitled to their own opinions?
i for one dont like the song-i agree with people that said it may have sounded better with background vocals or he should have sold it to someone else.
the video quality is nice, but i’m not impressed with the concept-i just feel like i’ve seen it somewhere before.

  59. Daddy Grandson

    January 2, 2009 at 8:55 pm

whats the problem with using a caucasian girl?in todays world we have a lot of interacial relationships ans whoever said using bikinis to swim was not african, should wear his/her caftan or ashoke to swim.

  60. hanny

    February 6, 2009 at 11:56 pm

this song now proves 2 me that u can now write without using another persons beat.

  61. Yvonne

    February 18, 2009 at 10:02 am

Dare is talented. But this is a little too ordinary. Video quality ok, Concept not original. Song blahhhh. Not saying it’s bad but it doesn’t stand out. At all. I’m definitely not watching it a second time.
