Tiffany Amber, MOMO, Stoned Cherrie, Xuly Bet and Jewel By Lisa to Present at New York Fashion Week
It’s official…Nigerian designers MOMO and Tiffany Amber in tandem with Xuly Bet of Mali and Stoned Cherrie of South Africa will be presenting their collections at New York Fashion Week as part of the African Fashion Collective sponsored by This Day’s Arise Magazine. Bella Naija also received exclusive word that Jewel By Lisa will also be doing a mini showcase as part of the show. This event will be truly historical and a huge milestone for the African fashion community.
It is definitely exciting to see true diversity at fashion week this year as designers showing range from established to new and emerging. Bella Naija will be at Fashion Week and will be updating readers throughout with exclusive pictures and commentary. The fashion collective will be “truly African” from the models to the producers. M-NET’s Face of Africa winner Ghanaian Kate Menson will be on the runways of New York Fashion Week for the first time. Namibian born MNET Face of Africa producer Jan Malan will be working on the show and Dino Moran, a Mozambican music producer will be the musical director. Other newcomers to the tent this year includes George Chakra, Adam, Barbie’s(R) and the Monarchy Collection.
Here’s a look at those who are behind making this show happen:
Designers
MOMO
“The success of other African designers internationally is an inspiration to me” says Fati Asibelua founder and creative director of MOMO. “It shows our designs have a true place in the international market and not just in Africa. I am grateful for the opportunity given by ThisDay/Arise Magazine to show my designs on such a prestigious stage for the world to see.”
Tiffany Amber
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the amazing things happening in South Africa. People continue to have a stereotypical view of Africa as the ‘Dark Continent’ and it will be great to challenge that.”
