She beat out the boys – Nneka wins MOBO 2009 Best African Act award

Nneka MOBONigerian musician Nneka won the Best African Act award at the Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards in Glasgow last night. Other shortlisted nominees for the Best African Act award were Eldee, Mujava, Oumou Sangare and Salif Kelta. Irish/Nigerian crooner Laura Izibor was also one of the MOBO nominees, she was up for the Best UK Newcomer award which went to JLS. Congrats to all the nominees and winners including JLS, one of their members Ortise Williams is Nigerian!

Lifetime Achievement Award: Michael Jackson

    What?> Beyonce is nominated for African awards?? Is this an award for the black race in general or Africans?? Let our people shine abeg, i no understand why dem go give beyonce,keri, etc african awards.. (Correct me if im wrong!)

    I know this is going to sound weird but what I loved about nneka was her ascent. she sounded just like the regular Nigerian girl next door. Although some of my friends where complaining about what she wore..me I can’t be bothered to be honest.

    By the way me recently discovered that Taio cruz nick name is ‘equal opportunity employer’. I found it absolutely hilarious.
