ARISE Magazine African Fashion Collective III- Black Coffee Fall 2010
South African Label Black Coffee showcased their Fall/Winter 2010 collection at the ARISE Magazine‘s Africa Collective III runway at Bryant Park yesterday.
Black Coffee designers Jacques van der Watt and Danica Lepen present a collection that features voluminous coats combined with wide dramatic lapels in grand geometric designs. The collection pairs a warm colour palette of tan, peaches and blues with angular structured coats which are intensively layered. The pieces are very bold and have a futuristic feel to them especially the quilted cocoon shaped coats.
While the coats remain the striking pieces in this collection, underneath them were simple dresses in muted tones with slouchy drape details.

second Oju’s comment how any one can compare or prefer this to DS collection. This is so offensive to the eye it is unbelievable. Looks like they took Duvets/Heavy blankets and threw them on the models and said “oya, walk”!!. No variation, more of the same rubbish. And yes, I know runaway is only a concept and not always the finished product, but I can’t see how this collection can be bettered in any way.. UP DEOLA SAGOE!! I wish I had just one of her dresses in my wardrobe:)

Love the draping of the dresses and the coats. Screams pure luxury. Love the monochromatic palette as well.

@ Duchess419, a lot of celebrities especially will wear the coat, it gets very cold here (North America) in the winter and there are a lot of red carpet events held in the winter months like the Oscars, SAG, GUILD, Grammys etc and a lot of celebrities who walk the red carpet in the cold would sure love to have something fashionable and edgy to keep warm unlike the regular coats and or jackets ๐
Overall a fantastic collection ๐ I love it

this is the kind of stuff that land in editorials in elle and marie claire
creative stuff…fashion is not static who knows, next year, we’l all be running to the stores for these baggy coats.
I won’t wear them (for now;)) but I like the creativity behind them. This designer stood out more than Deola…. true!

Clearly this designer put a lot of thought and work into these pieces. That I truly appreciate. However, I was terribly frightened looking at these pictures. I’m not going to compare them to Sagoe’s because I am not that hung up on her designs either. Kudos to all the designers for the hard work.
