Asante is a self taught multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter and rapper based in London. With a mix of African and Jamaican upbringing, the 22 year old cites Daft Punk, The Neptunes, Kanye West, African rhythmic patterns and a bi-continental upbringing as key influences on his music. Fusing heavy beats and atmospheric and emotive tones with a seamlessly adaptable approach to the delivery of his lyrics, he has created a slightly left of centre sound and an altogether progressive form of music.
“Open Me” is Asante‘s take on relationship drama. Being caught in that space where you break up with someone but you want to get back with them even though you know they are bad for you. The song is set against a cinematic background which, when blended with the vocals of both Asante and Laura Stephenson, leads to a very dynamic sound. Asante‘s EP is due out later in the year and promises to feature songs drawn from a variety of Asante‘s varied influences.
