Blessing Okagbare Wins Her Semi-Finals Heat & Qualifies for the Women’s 100m Finals
We are so proud of Nigerian athlete, Blessing Okagbare who has once again qualified for the next round of the women’s 100m race.
She won her semi-finals heat in 10.92 seconds, surpassing her earlier best record of 10.93 seconds to qualify for the finals.
The semi-finals race was once agian won by American world champion Carmelita Jeter. She finished the race in 10.83 seconds, outrunning the powerful Jamaican pair of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the defending champion, and Veronica Campbell-Brown, who won the 200m in Beijing in 2008.
Blessing is heading on to the finals tonight and as she forges on, we are very proud of her and wish her the very best!

As someone who dabbles a little in athetics I can see that she has a LOT of natural talent, but is in need of some coaching; her starts are what hold her back! If it was possible for Nigerian athletes to get proper funding and coaching I don’t see why they shouldn’t excel. After all, look at half of the athletes representing GB and the USA; so many of them are technically Nigerian.

So true. I was a collegiate athlete myself and I see so much potential in Blessing Okagbare. Her starting techniques and some other what’s holding her. If she can get a hold of a good running and strength coach she would be blistering.
