“Weekend Getaway” records strong Nigerian Box Office Returns

Weekend Getaway (3)

From a successful premiere in Lagos recently, to breaking Nigerian box office records, ‘Weekend Getaway’ with its star-studded ensemble has far exceeded many of Nollywood’s expectations.

In its opening weekend alone, we hear that producers – Emem Isong, Monalisa Chinda and Ini Edo smiled all the way to the bank with  its returns exceeding yet undisclosed seven digit figures nationwide.

And, as cinema-goers continue to troop through, the stars of the movie went through for a meet-and-greet with their fans by selling movie tickets and taking photos.

Weekend Getaway (2)

“Weekend Getaway” stars Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Nouah, Ini Edo, Monalisa Chinda, as well as Uti Nwachukwu, Bryan Okwara, Alexx Ekubo, Beverly Naya, Uru Eke, Bobby Obodo, Ime ‘Bishop’Umoh and Ini Ikpe and was produced and executive produced by Emem Isong, Ini Edo & Monalisa Chinda. It was directed by Desmond Elliot, with its screenplay written by Kehinde Joseph, Uduak Oguamanam and Bola Aduwo.

but what do you expect with all those celebs starring in one movie? if you’ve watched new year’s eve you will understand that once there a major celebs in one particular movie, the story line is bound to be uncoordinated.

  11. This movie was a total waste of my 1500. it even made me vow never to see a Nigerian movie at the cinema. i’ll rather just buy the dvd. No plot, no intrigues, just dry. infact the movie was so bad that it caused a little stir at d cinema the day i went to see it. people were practically demanding their money back. So this box office news di kwa one kind o!

      April 23, 2013 at 4:22 pm

as in… bellanaija triangles can “out” people oh. different names with the same triangles. emem isong needs to improve her story lines and also stop plagiarizing from mills and boon, etc. i vowed not to pay for any of her movies at the cinema after watching some of her movies on irokotv. her old movies seem better than what she’s producing now, and she needs to be more creative and leave romance and love stories, it’s boring and repetitive

  29. You do know that sir, joe, gloria, tony, ngozi, dearick are one and the same person. Thanks BN for introducing gravatars, we can start catching all these people that come to post positive comments in posts about them. King Paul and Osei are from the same camp obviously. This movie was NOT good and that is putting it mildly o! Go back to the drawing board emem isong and desmond elliot. Genevieve participated in this foolery too, always held her to a much higher esteem- just sad. FYI: not all criticism is necessarily hating

  30. Osei, Sharon, Doctor, Felicia and Amara sigh! you guys should just let up please

Seen the movie. Won’t totally condemn it, love some parts, hate some parts, I loved Alex Ekubo’s part die, Ini’s acting is interesting any day any time, i loved the beautiful girl that acted with Ramsey, she made me believe her act totally, she looked so very real. On the minus side, biko what was Bev. Naya forming in that movie? Her and her partner irritated me to no end, allt that unnatural English and fake acting, mscheeeew. Genevieve forming 007 ba? Even her fine acting did not make her and Uti believable at all, i like Genny and i like Uti but in weekend getaway? Lai Lai their act na rubbish. Kudos Alex, Kudos Uru, Ini you repped well, Kudos to the comedian! The rest of una especially Beverly, you people should be edited out!

I won’t get tired of raving about “Phone Swap”….Kunle Afolayan did me right mehn! everyone in the cinema was laughing and clapping all through….now I won’t go out of my way to go watch an Emem Isong movie at the cinema oh!! patapata I’ll waste 5bucks on irokotv if I get bored this summer to watch 50movies in one month…lol.
I’m not going to judge the movie ’cause it’s almost a given that too many stars in a movie is a guaranteed ‘flop’…even Hollywood hasn’t been able to find a way around this peculiar ‘problem’ not to mention our already faulty Nollywood….

Haven’t seen the movie yet. So no spoilers okay? Abeg, before someone will write that Uti died at the end or Genevieve’s character got pregnant. Hope it’s not as bad as you guys are making it out to be. It’s out on DVD so I guess I’ll order it on Will definitely be cheaper than watching it at the cinema. LMAO at the Gravatar bandits. #FallingOfHand
