BN Exclusive - Anna Ebiere Banner - August 2013 - BellaNaija 021

In her own words
My name is Anna Ebiere Banner. Describing oneself can be quite difficult so I’ll get the basics out of the way first. I am 18 years old, 5 foot 7 inches tall and from Bayelsa state, Nigeria. My major language is English but I also speak several native Nigerian languages.

First of all, I want to thank you all for the opportunity to represent my beloved country at the Miss World pageant. By the grace of God, I promise to make my country, family, friends and supporters proud by putting my best into every aspect of this contest.

I have a variety of hobbies including swimming, singing and dancing, but I get the most joy out of writing poetry and short stories. My favourite meals are rice with tomato sauce, a native Nigerian soup called Egusi, and fried plantain. One of the most inspirational influences in my life is President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia. She inspired me not just by being the world’s first female black president, but also by the class, humility, and effort with which she executed her office.

In my own new office, I will follow her example and believe my true duty and role as queen is to provide selfless service to the people of my country. Helping, encouraging, and inspiring young people with my words and actions is the number one goal. The beauty of a queen fades away easily but the legacy of her works will forever linger.

Thank you once again for the opportunity and may God bless you.

      • Umari September 29, 2013 at 3:41 am

I guess times are chaning as Miss Ghana almost took home the crown. South Sudan will soon be a reality. Darker girls are placing higher and higher in the Universe and World pageants and several have even won the titles. The world is becoming more deverse minded than some think. If we stop believing the color crap then it will stop existing.

There are a few lookers here. Miss Cameroon, I must acknowledge for one. Miss Nigeria, Do you mean without a formal education one can’t be “anything” in life? That’s quite debatable, considering i’m not even sure what “anything” means. #2cents

    • waterchild September 4, 2013 at 4:58 pm

Hmmm, where did you get the statement you attributed to Miss Nigeria, didn’t see “without formal education one can’t be “anything” in life”. Just saying.

BTW, Miss Cameroon, Ethiopia, Gabon, Cote d’ivoire, Ghana. Guinea, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, S.A and Uganda re all smokin.!!!!!

      • e-bukun September 4, 2013 at 5:19 pm

Er, the video under her profile? Which is why I didn’t put the phrase in quotations marks. She said without education, and so I assumed she meant formal education. Thus I asked for clarification.

      • waterchild September 4, 2013 at 5:22 pm

okay didn’t watch the videos at first. my bad. *covers face*

It is centimeters. You can then convert to feet and inches. I think 180cm is about 5’11

I don’t know why you guys are saying Miss South Sudan is pretty. For goodness sake, she’s annoyingly dark and not pretty. She and Miss Lesotho shouldn’t have been there. Miss Angola, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Ghana are the best. South Africa isn’t bad too.

    • Teddy Bear September 8, 2013 at 12:51 am

You know you’re about to get chewed out, right? “Annoyingly dark”? Really?!

    • Kiera Foxx September 29, 2013 at 12:58 am

What is God’s green earth is annoyingly dark? You are the reason why many dark skinned sisters feel insecure about their skin color. You’re probably black yourself. Miss South Sudan is indeed striking. I wish her all the best. As for you Chyke, beauty comes in all shades, if dark skin is not your preference then keep your opinions to yourself and go watch Miss Switzerland World.

We are saying that South Sudan is BEAUTIFUL because that is what we believe. You stay in your reality and we will live in ours. BLACK-Black is BEAUTIFUL. Some of us believe that from our souls! To me… This girl looks like an Angel.

My pick is Ms. Cameroon, she’s just gorgeous! there should be a Ms. Africa competition period, we’re sooo diverse and beautiful in our own way, which is amazing. I love Ms. South Sudan’s skin! very beautiful, it’s bad that some people can’t see that.
Ms. Nigeria is just a cutie, but not sure this is the right competition for her.

  • September 6, 2013 at 9:26 pm

Ms. Cote D’Ivoire is another good pick!

  • Pearl September 7, 2013 at 12:16 am

Miss naija is very pretty, but not feeling her video. Don’t know why she can’t stand up and walk around like most girls in the video, talking about “I love to eat” smh.

  • kiki September 7, 2013 at 4:04 pm

Miss Nigeria is boring and personality @ all.

Go South Sudan go! You are absolutely gorgeous and you articulate yourself very well! In spite of the rough history your country has, it is producing well-educated and brilliant women. No wonder you say “In every challenge there is a treasure.” I am Nigerian and I am really rooting for you. I am proud of you and your country. Wishing you win. Good luck!!!

Video of miss Botswana, Code d ivore , Ethiopia, Namibia, Ghana and South Africa shows readiness for the competition but the most Video I enjoyed is Botswana and Namibia, code d ivore its also Wow but in French didn’t understand it. Ghana poor sound u could have played at aleast music in the background -its also the best. Nigeria without education one cannot be anything in life , Most of us youth in Africa if not the world are faced with unemployment and we are in the street with degrees and still unemployed. I can’t deny it that education is not important but it does not SOLVE everything , its wisdom that gets us some where in life . its all about what you do about your life that can make you achieve your dreams. Most farmers are not educated but they successful and rich in their farming most millionaire are not educated but they have made it through business nd investing ,most singers are not educated such as Jay-Z but have made it through music. If you could have said made use of your God given talent. My Question is How will you help those Educated youth who are unemployed and are in the street and so stuck?

  • Umari September 29, 2013 at 4:03 am

FYI Chyke: Some of us are saying that Miss South Sudan is BEAUTIFUL because that is what we believe! You stay in your reality and we will live in ours. The deepest Black is BEAUTIFUL. Some of us believe that from our souls! To me… This girl looks like an Angel.
