Brazil anti world cup protests

Less than a month to the commencement of the 2014 world cup, 12 cities across Brazil have embarked on anti-world cup protests.

Protesters are reportedly angry that billions of dollars are being spent on the football tournament, rather than social projects, housing, and other pertinent infrastructure that the country lacks, BBC reports.

The protests are especially intense in in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, where some demonstrators hurled stones, burned tyres, and blocked roads. Police have fired tear gas severally to disperse the multitudes of protesters.

Some of the protesters have vowed that the riots will get even more severe  as the World Cup gets closer.
