Qingdao Takes Strict Precautions Against Ebola Virus

Abuja (NAN) –  The Nigerian Embassy in Abu Dhabi says it “resisted pressure’’ from local authorities for the immediate burial of a Nigerian woman who died of “suspected Ebola virus” in the United Arab Emirate (UAE).

A top official of the embassy told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the Emirati health authority also pressured the woman’s husband to authorise immediate burial.

According to the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the mission did not grant the approval sought by the local authorities because the result of Ebola test on the patient is pending.

The 35-year-old Nigerian woman, names withheld, said to be a cancer patient, died in Abu Dhabi on Aug. 15 while travelling to India from Lagos via Abu Dhabi.

Her health deteriorated while in transit at Abu Dhabi International Airport and as medics were trying to resuscitate her, they found signs that suggested a possible Ebola virus infection.

The woman’s husband, names withheld, who was travelling with her, and the five medics who tried to resuscitate her, are still in isolation pending the result of Ebola test on the patient.

All are in good health and show no symptoms of the illness, according to local health officials.

The Nigerian official said the local health authorities had demanded the burial in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation in cases of death by suspected viral infections.

“But our response was that the results are not out and we cannot grant such approval,’’ the official said.

On Wednesday, WHO reported 2,240 cases of Ebola virus with 1,229 deaths from across the world.

It said that most of the victims came from West Africa, including Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

According to the UN health agency 84 new fatalities were reported between Aug. 14 and Aug. 16.

SINCE NIGERIANS ARE BLAMING PATRICK SAWYER… SHOULD DUBAI BLAME THIS NIGERIAN LADY AND HER HUSBAND ….I DONT THINK SO, WE AS HUMANS NEED TO LEARN HOW TO BE COMPASSIONATE TO EACH OTHER NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCES BECAUSE ITS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

She didn’t die cos of ebola. It is the same kind of fear that u r helping to spread that makes everyone think an ill African has ebola. Even the woman in Germany has proven to be ebola free. Calm down.
Patrick Sawyer is still going to be considered an idiot. Forget it.

AM SORRY BUT YOU HAVE MADE NO SENSE WHATSOEVER FROM THIS COMMENT.

IF YOU READ THE ARTICLE, IT ACTUALLY IMPLIES THAT THE FAMILY SHOW NO SYMPTOMS, AS THEY TRIED TO RESCUCITATE HER, SO CHANCES ARE THAT THE CAUSE OF THIS WOMAN’S DEATH ISN’T EVD.

IT ALSO STATED THAT SHE HAD CANCER.

THIS SCENARIO GIVES YOU NO COMPARISON AT ALL WITH THAT OF MR. SAWYERR AS IN HIS CASE, IT WAS CLEAR THAT HE KNEW HE HAD THE VIRUS, AND FOR WHATEVER REASON CHOSE TO HEAD TO NIGERIA.

THE LADY IN QUESTION WAS ALSO NOT GOING TO DUBAI, BUT WAS ON HER WAY TO INDIA…….POSSIBLY FOR HER CANCER TREATMENT.

PLEASE JUST KEEP QUIET (DONT’T TYPE) IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SAY (WRITE).

Clearly you heard Patrick’s Sawyer’s name for the first time yesterday. If you hadn’t you would have known that he knew his sister had ebola and argued with the health authorities in Liberia to get her out of isolation. You would have also known that he had been told personally by his president not to travel but he did it anyway. You would have known that he suspected he was sick and declined to shake the hand of an immigration officer in Monrovia. You would have known that when they told him he had ebola in Nigeria he got angry and at some point ripped out his IV and managed to spray his fluids on the medical staff in the hospital. Until we hear that this woman suspected that she had ebola when she left Lagos, kindly take several seats. Yes we need to treat each other with compassion. Do you know who needs your compassion right now? The nurse who died after attending to him. The doctor who died yesterday and her family. Did you know that she fought to keep him in the hospital when he tried to get out knowing he was infected? If your family members were the victims of his DELIBERATE recklessness how compassionate would you be then?

I think your comparison is unfortunate. Mr Sawyer knowingly and deliberately brought ebola to Nigeria!!!!.How does your brain ?function?

We need confirmation that it is or isn’t Ebola. If it isn’t then she should be brougth back home and buried with dignity. All these nervous countries that become jumpy as soon as they hear someone is from WA. I hope they didn’t inject her with something, hmm… Anyway, if it confirms she had Ebola, ah! That na wahala o! Where and how did she get it? Was she and her husband pulling a Patrick sawyer on India? We shall see…

She had cancer and was on her way to India via UAE to seek treatment! I will be surprised if the test confirms Ebola.

Sorry, this is good government trying to protect its citizens. If Nigeria had done this when Patrick Sawyer was en route, then we will not have the case in Nigeria. I commend them for taking the necessary precautions!

WHO and the whole medical officers are going crazy, does it mean it is only ebola dat kills now or before ebola people were not dying a cancer patient dies you say is a ebola, a 7 months baby stooling and vomiting is ebola, any body that runs temperature is ebola. The medical people are the one just creating these fear. at least ebola is not flu that is airborne neither is it malaria that the vector moves about.
