Chisom Harriet Udokoro & Prince Chete Fredrick Nwoko are a match made in heaven!
The couple met in Houston at a graduation party and remained Facebook friends for a year before they ever spoke on the phone! One year, a phone call and a date that ended at a traditional wedding, led to Chisom and Chete knowing they were made for each other.
The groom proposed by slipping the ring on his princess’s finger as she lay asleep – a long day after delayed flights and lost luggage – and she awoke to the most gorgeous ring and a beautiful new ride.
BellaNaija Weddings wishes the couple a beautiful and blessed married life as One.

How We Met
From the Bride, Chisom
Without a doubt in my mind, Chete is my gift from God. I am lost for words on how best to describe this amazing man that God has blessed me with. He is my confidant, my Prince Charming, my soul mate and my everything! The day we met is forever etched in my heart. I was at a graduation party and I noticed this tall guy looking at me, trying to get my attention. It was funny because I was struck from the first minute I saw him but I had to pretend like he didn’t exist, like a typical Nigerian girl. Later that evening, my big brother from another mother, Somto, told me that his friend really liked me and wanted to get to know me. Naturally, I told him that I was not interested! My brother believed me and advised me to stay off boys and focus on my education anyways.
We parted ways that night without saying a word to each other.
Chete is different from every other guy that I have ever met. He is extremely patient and smart which is a rare quality to find in men of our generation. Every move he makes is calculated and he loves to take his time! I didn’t hear from him again after that night, for weeks. After a few weeks, he sent me a Facebook friend request. I instantly recognized him and of course I took my time to respond to his friend request as I loved playing games. Chete was my Facebook friend for almost a year and he never said a word to me! He would like a few pictures here and there, that’s it! Every time I saw his notification, I got very excited! I had to restrain myself because I had never had a guy play hard to get before; it was very different for me. On a fateful, I received a Facebook message from him. He went straight to the point and asked for my number (You already know I was excited!). At this point I was filled with anticipation and excitement as I had never heard his voice before. He called me that night and we had the longest conversation that I have ever had with a stranger! We laughed and talked for hours! That night, he asked me out on a date for the next day which was on a Thursday night. I told him I was busy and would not be available till Sunday night. I had absolutely nothing doing on both nights but I didn’t want to relinquish power to him so soon. We both agreed to Sunday night.
That date was the best date I ever had. He is a funny, humble, laid back and very focused young man. I felt like I was with someone I had known all my life. I had to go to a traditional wedding that night and he asked if he could come with me to the wedding, when I was about to leave. I agreed. We had an awesome time at the wedding. He met my friends and they all loved him! From that day, we became inseparable; our lives revolved around each other. Chete is my best friend, my brother and my family all wrapped in one perfect gift from God. When I am with him I am content, complete and happy. He gives me so much of peace of mind and stability. His patience and easy going lifestyle has rubbed off on me. I am a lot more patient and I have learnt to relax and just live and enjoy the gift of life with ease. Chete completely understands me and allows me to be myself. With him I am free to live, to dream and fully explore my adventurous nature. I love to travel and see the world and he completely supports me to chase my dreams no matter how far it takes me.
Chete is God’s gift to me. I prayed and fasted for years and God answered. I remember on day, my mom called me and said “Chisom it’s time you make a list of what you want in the man you want to marry. Keep that list and revisit it every year” I asked her why I need to revisit it every year. And she said that it was because the older I got, my view on life and the things that are important to me would change. I must know exactly want I wanted in a man that I hope to marry. Every year, I revisited my list, prayed and fasted . My prayer point was that any man who was not meant for me will not waste my time or lure me into making mistakes I would regret in the future. And when he finally brings my Prince Charming into my life, he would never depart from me. No matter what it takes, or how long it takes, I will not miss my God sent husband.
I know Chete is the one because we have been through our highest and lowest points of our relationship and he never gave me cause to worry. Chete, I am still trying to understand what I have done to be blessed with your love and commitment. I promise to love you with every fiber of my being for the rest of my life. I promise to never forget how far we have come, to be quick to forgive, to be an understanding and committed wife to you and to shower you and our new family with unconditional love. I am excited to start this new phase of my life with the love of my life!
I WILL LOVE YOU TODAY, TOMORROW AND FOREVER.
How We Met
From the groom, Chete
It all started when I saw Chisom for the first time at a friends graduation party. I remember I went with a friend and we were in a hurry to attend another event that night. We were about leaving when I spotted her. She had on a black top and blue pants and she looked beautiful. She lit up the room with her beauty and had so much confidence in herself as she mingled with her friends. I was drawn to her vibrant personality and she looked like she certainly knew how to have fun. I had to leave early so I didn’t get a chance to talk to her but I knew we both noticed to each other. A few weeks later, I sent her a friend request on Facebook and It took about a year later before going out on our first date. I kept an eye on her through her page. The things that struck me about her was that she was always happy, she always had an optimistic view on life and she loved her family and friends very much. I knew there was something special about her so I was patient. After a while, I sent her a message and asked her for her phone number. I called her that same night and it felt like we knew each other already because we got along so well. I asked her out to dinner and although she made me wait a few nights before coming out on the date with me, she was worth the wait. Our conversations, our religious and personal beliefs all perfectly aligned. Later that night, we went to a traditional wedding that same night (I didn’t want the night to end).
As time went by we dated and got to know each other and I realized that Chisom was the one I was looking for to fill the void in my life. She made me a better person. Our personality made us a perfect match. We are both family oriented and God fearing people. She has a good heart and I know she will always have my back. Plus Chisom is the best cook ever! I had always heard our mutual friend Somto rave about her cooking, I was a sceptic cos she did not look like the type of girl that would be a master chef in the kitchen. The first meal she cooked for me was catfish pepper soup and it was the best pepper soup I had ever eaten. From that day on, I was excited and anticipated the unraveling of Chisom. Chisom is an exciting puzzle, she is the most loving and giving person I know. She loves her family & friends and She is extremely wise beyond her age. Most times when she gives me advice, I almost feel like I am listening to my mom or even my grand mom. This always fascinated me about her. I love that she is always ready to listen and give me support at all times.
Lastly, Chisom knows how to have fun! Her friends and I call her the “queen of enjoyment” and she lives true to that title. She is always adventurous and willing to try new things, always happy and taking everyone around her along with her. Whenever she is in a room, you are guaranteed to have a great day. I am grateful to her parents because they did an amazing job in raising a lady who is well rounded and always stays true to her Nigerian roots.
Chisom completes me. She is the woman I have always hoped and envisioned to spend the rest of my life with. I promise to love you and be true to you for the rest of my life. With God and you on my side I am grateful and looking forward to a blessed future together.

I was away in Europe for the summer. On my way back to Houston, two of my connecting flights were each delayed for hours! I got to Houston and the airline left all my luggage in London! I was livid and exhausted. When I walked through the arrival gates at the airport, I saw Chete waiting for me with a smile and a rose in his hand. At that moment all my anger disappeared! My flight had arrived over an hour late and he patiently waited for me with open arms. I decided to stay over at Chete’s house that night, It was a lot closer to the airport and I was not in the mood for a long drive home. We got to his house and he suggested that he should go to Walmart and pick up a few things that I would need. While he was gone, I took a shower and went straight to sleep. Next thing I know, I woke up around 5am in the morning and there was something on my finger. I thought that was odd because I never sleep with my jewelry on. I looked on my finger and I saw the most beautiful ring that i had ever seen! I immediately woke him up! He got up, came to my side of the bed, went on one knee and said “I love you Chisom. Will you marry me and spend the rest of your life with me? I promise to love you always and make your world beautiful”. At that moment I cried. I was so happy and grateful to God. It was the most romantic and intimate moment I had ever shared with anyone. Just the two of us together, making a life long commitment to each other. A few minutes later, he asked me to come outside. I asked why? It was 5am in the morning! Why should I come outside?! He laughed and and carried me outside. And there it was, the most beautiful engagement gift that I could have ever dreamed of – a car!

I always knew deep down she was the one so when I decided to propose, I didn’t question myself. Chisom was away in Europe during the summer when I got her an engagement ring. She didn’t see it coming. I had been shopping around for a ring for a while till I settled on the one I knew she would love. I called an upscale restaurant and made a reservation. Chisom was traveling from Scotland to Houston for the final time as she was finally done with her masters degree program. My initial plan was to take her to the restaurant to eat right after she got back. Unfortunately, her flight from London was delayed for more than six hours and her boxes were left behind in London by the airline. By the time she arrived, it was already too late to go the restaurant and she was too tired and upset to do anything else. After I brought her home, I told her I was going to Walmart to pick up a few things that she would need. Meanwhile I went out to make sure her engagement present would be ready and waiting after I had proposed. By the time I got back, she was fast asleep.
I called the restaurant and rescheduled my appointment. I decided to surprise her, I carefully put the ring on her finger while she was asleep trying so hard no to wake her up. The next morning, she noticed the ring on her finger. At first she was confused and then she started crying and said yes. Shortly after, I unveiled her engagement present and she was so surprised and overjoyed. It gave me so much joy to see her happy. Chisom and I are meant for each other. I believe God created Chisom for me as my better half, just like a piece to a puzzle.
Chisom, I love you and I want to make a place for myself in this world with you as my other half because you are the center of my universe and I know you’ll be my side as my partner forever.
Advice for Intending Couples
“My advice for other couples is to relax and go with the flow. You have to come to terms with the fact that everything might not go exactly the way you envisioned it but that is ok. What matters the most is the person right beside you that entire day. The wedding day goes by extremely fast, so make sure you let every moment count and enjoy your day.”

“I am always every over the top in my every day life, yet I really wanted a simple effortless look for my first wedding dress. I wanted to look timeless and beautiful.”
“I wanted the experience to be very personal. I made brooch bouquets for all 8 of my bridesmaids. My reserved table cards and I also made my flower girl baskets fully encrusted with bling, pearls and tulle!”
“Chete wanted his wedding suit to be specially tailored for him. He was able to choose the fabric, textures, colors and designs. It was an awesome idea because his suits fit perfectly and I also loved the personal details the designer JPR Styling incorporated in the looks. Both of his suits and dress shirts has our initials C & C embroidered on them.”
“For my second look, I wanted a very glamorous look that would reflect my fun side. Finding a wedding dress was fun but also very stressful! All the stores seemed to have either extremely over the top dresses or extremely simple dresses. I was really difficult to find something in the middle. I bought my Jovani reception dress before I bought my wedding dress! It was definitely love at first sight, I knew I had to have it the moment I tried it on. It had all the bling and glamour that I was looking for.”

Bride’s Review: “My mom’s designer in Lagos created 5 amazing pieces for me. I ended up wearing 3 of her designs. My absolute favorite was the bridal dress she created. It flowed effortlessly and fitted my body like a glove. My favorite feature of the dress was the bead work on the back and the rose petal infused train. I was in awe the first time I saw all her designs for me. Nigerian designers are truly talented!”
