SPOT ON! I thought I was the only person who felt that way. I was not so much disappointed in the writer( a lot of half baked journalists) as I was in This Day publishing it, we have a huge problem in Nigeria. Toke may not be perfect in all the areas people choose to criticize her, but the fact she keeps her head up and continues her hustle is something that should be respected and admired. She got that gig , she already scored one. The haters should hush already. Nwamaka

Nigeria universities should start offering journalism as a course or program. I hardly find it in any university program. We should be having bsc, msc and phds and it likes.

Even though, you came off, as being slightly personal and supportive of your colleague, however, you raised valid points. It’s sad, that journalism in Nigeria today, has further exacerbated the ‘hate’ in the Nigerian social media space. It’s bad enough that people post virile comments, but for journalists to join the bandwagon of fanning popular embers of discord, begs for a radical change. It boils down, to us as individuals, if Azuka as a person, has some failings, that’s how Toke, probably has her lows. But to completely bash her performance and narrow it down to fakeness, is at best, unbalanced. And am pretty sure, there were parts of her performance, as compere, that would’ve been commendable. This is not helped, by the fuel, ignited by blogs and sites, through their choice of sensitive aspects of someone’s opinion, as headline. In anyways, isn’t that why we are all here….lol. More ladies, should begin to support ladies! It won’t sweat your make-up.

Azuka’s article doesn’t break any ethic of journalism. It is an opinion article, and she used that medium to pen down her beef, hatred or whatever it is she feels for Toke.

Plsss the azuka girl is just seeking for attention and she knows if she targets on someone who is social media active she will in some way be notice….that’s a cheap way of attracting attention….toke has done well for herself….who is azuka anyway…but once you mention toke everyone is intrested now tell me who is balling….azuka please take the back seat…your opinion does not matter….toke is still balling am sure you azuka wants the kind of attention she gets be it good or bad….ps…your sense of style is sooooo lame…how about paying attention on improving yourself….just saying….

Azuka came across as very bitter in that article which makes me feel its more personal than we actually think. Toke may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but you have gotta give it to the girl, the criticism and negative vibes she gets left right and centre does seem move her. Infact it seems like it gives her more steam! Azuka pls sort yourself out and deal with whatever it is before it consumes you.

there are critics around the world who work for magazines ,they blast celebs and politicians regularly, it is also part of journalism.

omg, I swear I didnt even know it was this OAP dotun.what an idiot

I was watching his countdown on soundcity and the sam smith song “im not the only one” was no.2, the next thing this fool started saying, sam smith is gay, bkah blah blah, if he comes to nigeria he would be given 14 years, just talking plain bull**it about how much he hates gay people, I was extremely confused, what does his sexuality have to do with his music.

what a tool. if ur in america or other developed countries u will lose ur job. idiot.

Lmao, this Bruno guy is so pained. So you even watch his show to the point that you remember what number? Are you gay? You are another hater that seem to have lost your mothers direction to sound like this. Face it, the guy is doing so well and said the truth that it hurts you so bad. As for Azuka, you are a total loser to say all that about someone who didn’t snatch your husband. Haba

Azuka is a “total loser” but Dotun is not even tho he was bashing someone for something that had nothing to do with their work? What Azuka said is what most of u here on bella keep yabbing toke for, all of a sudden, all of u are now turning into Toke Rangers lol….hope it lasts all thru the year sha. If i had time i’d go back to those posts and compare names of the people bashing her and see if they are doing two-face dance now.

What dotun said about the gay singer is true but the manner he said it was very hateful and contrived….same can be said for Azuka, so why are u defending dotun and bashing azuka for the same ish? Bloody brainless hypocrites.

If he actually did that on a countdown show that was about the “music”, then Mr dotun is in the same boat as Ms Azuka, how inexperienced would you be in mentioning sexuality on a music countdown ? Was it a gossip blog? Or a gossip report? I am disappointed in this dotun guy

I have met Toke in person a few times, having gone to the same Uni with her . She seemed quite fake and arrogant. However , this Azuka’s article was quite harsh.

Again, its obvious that Toke has her own strong bandwagon of loyalists out there. Considering the high no of comments on here yesterday. Some even went as far as rubbishing Azuka’s looks.

But , having seen Azuka’s pic here today, I must
say that she is not bad looking at all. In fact, she looks really good. Is it because she is dark skinned?. Anyway its 1-1 in my opinion.
just passing by . my day off…….sigh…..

Nawa ooh I don’t know what do believe again oh. I’m a big fan of Toke and I know how much hate she constantly receives from all of you forming ‘sticking out for Toke’ . If they don’t come for her supposed fake marriage it will be her appearances at occasions, accent, vlogs, skin colour, birthday party and what have you… I remember after the headies tabloids carried it that her hosting was poor and her jump suit was a disaster so why are you all surprised at Azuka’s write up? You guys are screaming ‘HATE’ like seriously? You all are free to hate and through mean comments at Toke but Azuka isn’t allowed, so tell me biko who is fooling who?

Great, another article for Toke to come here with different names and leave a hundred comments. Between the love buttons and comments, her computer will break today. Btw, didn’t Toke become famous for dissing Linda Ikeji? If she can dish it out, I’m sure she can take it.

I’m not even as concerned about the “journalist” giving her opinion. Journalists the world over do this. It’s just published in the opinions section. My biggest problem is that she slammed Toke as a journalist (which I agree she is not,) but branded herself as one. Yet, she switched between tenses so many times that she may have been responsible for any power outage in the country that day. So many spell errors (Niola, instead of Niyola, Patoraking on first reference to the artiste, to name a few.) The entire write up was filled with numerous errors that she should be ashamed to refer to herself as a journalist, even for Nigerian journalism standards.

On another note, while I disagreed with most of her commentary, I especially did so with her assessment of Niyola’s win for vocal performance. It shouldn’t have anything to do with her popularity on the Naija music scene. It should be based solely on one’s vocal performance, which I feel she deserved with her hit song “Toh Bad.” She could argue some other performance was better, but discrediting Niyola’s win because she isn’t a commercial success was indicative of how you treat this column: as a fluff piece.

I’m just as curious to know who Toke specifically ticked off in any industry’s circle that has resulted in so much hate spewed on her. I mean it seemingly comes from just about every angle and “these people” never seem to tire. Even those of us who were curiously amused at first are tired of the Toke bashing. Don’t like her, just ignore her!

bellanaija there are more flattering pictures of azuka, can u change that one u used.

yes, azuka is not a sex pot but atleast she has not altered her natural skin colour. how many of you people can brag about that.

in this day and age were many of you people believe beauty is light skin.

majority of what azuka said was the truth, that butt pad toke wore was a tragedy. toke looked like a contestant in miss bum bum brazil.

she was fooling herself on stage. her and eku are bad choices to host award shows.

azuka sounded bitter and I understand why. toke makinwa isn’t even half as good as she is (azuka) but toke is more famous and richer and she is getting praises for her mediocre journalism and fakeness.

there is a fine line between bitterness and being shady. azuka u were bitter.

Funny the same Dotun truly mentioned Sam Smith sexuality and he now dissing someone else. Gosh, why are so judgemental? What has a person’s sexual orientation got to do with his talents. Its reason the country isnt progressing. They shld all take several seats abeg. Not a fan of Toke but its not in my place to diss her hustle. People are free to criticize, its done all over d world, as long as its free of malice. Even the most critically acclaimed songs and movies have their critics.

What I find amusing is that BN selected what it wanted. The writer wrote an entire article and BN cropped what it wanted. Okay

    1. She praised Ayo Animashaun’s dedication to the HEADIES with or without sponsorship. She questioned MTN’s inconsistent presence as well as the President’s support of the entertainment industry.

    2. The use of the limousine was ill-advised as space did not allow for it thereby delaying the event from 7pm to 11pm.

    3. In talking about Toke, I did not see vile and bile. She described what happened, and she tried to reconcile the hype before the show to what actually happened. The writer also wrote about Dr. Did, Don Jazzy, Bovi’s inattendance despite promotions including him, Olamide, Niyola, Sir Victor Uwaifo, Tiwa Savage, P Square…it seems as though BN is doing exactly what commenters are accusing the writer of doing. And that is unsettling.

    4. I see and understand people’s grouse with her words. In her defense, Toke and Basketmouth were the hosts and one half was apparently really bad. In mentioning designers, that’s part of the job. I see spelling errors, the writing style did not bother my understanding. It was a recount of events for those who did not see it. Do I think she is a hater? No. Do I think her criticism of Time was unfair? Not for an event that has been heralded as the Grammy’s of Naija. Yes, it could and should have been edited. But were there any false statements? That I doubt.

Honestly, the likes of this writer reminds me of Emmy Collins. Hopefully Toke takes a page from Mercy Johnson and identifies the possible corrections here (practice & rehearse & keep working at comedic material). And the others she noted: Animashaun, event organizers, sponsors, the houseboys & seniors should do the same.

How come people didn’t defend Toke like this when Linda Ikeji and her minions nearly tore her apart a few years ago?? Are u all that wishy-washy? Waht azuka said is basically verbatim of what most of u spew about this girl weekly, all of a sudden, y’all are acting brand new? Laughable!

    • Osa

      January 7, 2015 at 12:35 am

I made that your same statement about a year ago. But that doesn’t justify the statement against toke, made by this this very very ugly horse called Azuka. Nigerians generally do not have independent opinions, and will follow-the bandwagon always. Social media or real life. Linda ikeji we all know is a bloody pretender but her blinded lovers are so lost not to realize is yet. Or perhaps the cheapskate 10k giveaways will prevent them from saying the truth.

A Lot of ppl find toke annoying, and she seems more popular among lagos social circle. Its a free world, we musnt love everybody, sum toke lovers hate other “celebs”. Since when do you have to be the best at something to criticize somebody… Mass communication is not journalism. This guy needs several seats. I felt the article was harsh but it is an opinion piece like many have been written around the world about famous people and bodies of work. I think it’s good for Toke because at least that means someone and their editors felt she is phenomenal enough to warrant a whole page in a paper. Many of us will die in social invisibility…
