BN Beauty Makeup Tips for Dry Skin - BellaNaija - May 2015Hey you – I’ve got great news for you. Just because you have dry skin, does not mean you can’t have radiant makeup.

Just like those with oily skin, individuals with dry skin can sometimes hit bumps in the road when it comes to applying makeup. From what type of concealer or foundation to use, to how to get a smooth application to even using makeup products that won’t dry out your skin.

The great thing is, with the right technique and a select number of tools, you can achieve flawless looking makeup just like anyone else.

So see the tips below to help you deal with dry skin and get great looking makeup effortlessly.

1. Moisturize first!
Because your skin is dry, you need all the moisture you can get. This means applying some moisturizer at least three times before you apply any makeup product on your face as adequate preparation for the process.

The moisturizer you use will soak in your skin and get it looking smooth and ready for the first few stages of makeup that go directly on top of it.

2. Use a makeup primer
Primers are a great way to help keep your makeup on; and they are also great for eliminating dry patches on the skin.

By removing the visibility of the patches, your foundation etc can then glide smoothly onto your skin without revealing the dryness underneath.

3. Don’t use waterproof mascara
Waterproof mascara can be very drying on your lashes and this can cause damage and even breakage. Be sure to use regular mascara so they aren’t as damaging. Another great tip here is to use natural oils to remove eye makeup rather than a chemical one that can have drying effects on your skin.

You could use olive oil on a cotton ball, and use that to gently wipe away your mascara, eyeshadow etc. This way it takes your makeup off and also moisturizes your eye lids and lashes.

4. Use a brush to apply products
It is best to use a brush to apply foundations, concealers etc to your face. Why? Because it applies less pressure that if you use your fingers.

The brush would still give you the desired effect of the full coverage, but without the pressured dragging and flaking of the skin that your fingers would cause.

5. Use a damp beauty blender sponge
Another great way to add more hydration to your skin while making up is to use a damp beauty blender sponge. Before using the sponge to apply any type of makeup, you will need to run it under some water. This helps it blend the product into your face better, leaving a seamless finish.

The water can also have a cooling effect on the face and help the skin get some moisture from the excess.

6. Use cream-based products
Speaking of full coverage, it is important that you use cream-based products that will give you full coverage. Be sure they are at room temperature so they can be warm and melt into the skin for a more covered look. This is the better alternative because dry or powdery products will cake on the skin and draw attention to the lines on your face from the dryness.

7. Use light translucent powders
Be sure to use translucent powders that are hydrating (have added benefit for dry skin) and apply them with a large fluffy brush. Do this lightly so they can gently set on your foundation etc and give you a seamless finish.

Brands usually have them written on the packs so be on the lookout for them.

8. Counter coffee
This is a word to the wise for the coffee lovers – for every cup of coffee you drink, take double the glass of water. Coffee can be very drying for your skin, and this will affect your makeup outcome.

As someone who has extremely dry skin, I would have to disagree with Tip 4. Using a brush on your skin will make it flake if it is really dry.

Also, if you can skip using power, that would be great. If you master your blending technique, you would not need to use powder. Powder only dries our face (if you have really dry skin)

    Everything else, I agree with.
