Two Nigerian Air Force Officers Brutally Beat FAAN Official | Goes into Coma

Mohammed Shuaibu

According to a report by Vanguard, an official of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mohammed Shuaibu, was brutally beaten yesterday by two Nigerian Air Force Officers.

Reports state that the officers responsible are in charge of traffic control at the departure section of the international terminal wing of Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

Here is the account of the incident:

Mohammed Shuaibu, who works at the protocol and passages of the agency, had told his friend to pick him at the airport but when he arrived, the airmen attempted to remove the number plates of his car.

Shuaibu was said to have begged the Air Force men not to take away the number plates.

According to eyewitnesses, Shuaibu, dressed in FAAN staff uniform, introduced himself and showed his identity card, but an argument reportedly ensued and the Air Force men descended on him.

He was beaten by the airmen until he collapsed, with blood gushing out of his nostrils.

An official of FAAN told reporters that Shuaibu was first taken to the FAAN clinic at the airport, but was later taken to the airport hospital.

At press time, he was yet to regain consciousness.

An official of FAAN told Vanguard: “Shuaibu begged them and introduced himself as a FAAN staff, but they seemed not to care. By the time other people arrived the scene, Shuaibu had collapsed and blood was flowing from different parts of his body.

“We first moved him to FAAN clinic, where they said his heart beat was slowing down and he was finding it difficult to breathe. So we had to rush him to the airport hospital.”

It will be recalled that about three months ago, a trolley operator at the General Aviation Terminal, GAT, of the Lagos airport died after sustaining grievous injuries from attacks by a naval rating.

So many things is wrong with this nation. A lot of people are hired into the government agencies without proper training, orientation and sensitization. I can’t imagine this happening in a civilised society. Police go do their own com talk say na stray bullet or accidental discharge, army go disobey traffic regulations and now airforce own na to they beat people.

It is even more barbaric because it happened at the airport. If a first time visitor to Nigeria sees this at the airport, i am certain such individual will take the next available flight out of the country.

Did a post today for and I suggested that Fashola becomes Minister of justice and Attorney General. Time to put up the legal framework necessary for the implementation of laws in Nigeria. With that, government agencies would be vicariously liable for the acts of their personnel. When they pay compensation in millions of naira as this case should be, then they will take staff training and orientation seriously.
Osinbajo n co, we await sanity please!

thist is only possible in a federal Banana republic of Nigeria. A nation that regards her citizens like lions will regard antelopes in the jungle. What do you expect when every act of brutality by men in uniform have always gone unpunished but rather hailed , protected or concealed exept someone in authority is related with the victim. This one happening too many, even in surcharge an environment as Airport. Permit me to ask , don’t we have LAWERS in this country that should be concerned about the rights of the defenseless without money ? What happens to all the NGOs that says they are concerned with human right abuse. I may just consider moving to sambisa forest than stay in this viper infested land. The airforce and its likes should redeem there image by bringing this men to book.
