Ambode Presents N666 Billion Budget for 2016

Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Thursday presented the year 2016 budget proposal of N665.588billion to the House of Assembly.

Upon presenting the budget, Ambode pledged that his administration would not only implement the budget faithfully, but also ensure that it worked in the best interest of people in Lagos, Premium Times reports.

The governor has named the budget “The Peoples Budget”, and emphasized that it has  increased by 26 percent over the budgets of 2014 and 2015 respectively which stood at N489.6 Billion respectively.

“The increase will enable our government to focus on the present challenges of security, traffic gridlock resolution including physical and social infrastructural development which has thrown up new challenges quite different from what we used to experience and have always known,” he said.

The report further states:

Giving a breakdown of the budget figures, Governor Ambode put the recurrent expenditure at N278,909bn while capital expenditure stands at N383,678bn, explaining that the capital to recurrent ratio is 58:42 as against 51:49 in 2014 and 2015.

Governor Ambode also put the total revenue estimate for 2016 fiscal year at N542.873Billion, saying the balance of N119.714billion would be funded through deficit financing constituting 0.41 percent of the state GDP, based on 2016 budget alone and a cumulative debt to GDP ratio of about three percent.

lol. which one be end time budget again. my own is that the budget should be implemented faithfully. if you spend 650billion naira in lagos state, that state should stand out in all ramification. If our government has been faithful to the people that put them in office, we wont still be talking about bad road, electricity and the list goes on.

do the needful, knowing fully well that there’s someone that you’ll account for in the last day

  6. Really, BN?

I don’t kn ow which is more disturbing, BN’s giving more evidence to the increasing accusations of some of its readers/commenters that it isn’t living up to the class and standard expected but rather descending to the low, cheap tricks of (a) certain other blog(s), or, the unbelievable, (if not that the evidence abounds right before our eyes in their posts), inexplicable blind and completely illiterate inability to see/read (and reason) clearly and intelligently and form logical, intelligent conclusions based on the presented facts, of many of BN’s readers and commenters.

N666 Billion as posted so glaringly and blaringly, evidently for nothing else but shock factor and to drive traffic and incite comments, is so irresponsible. The actual story and facts as presented by the same BN, if the previous commenters could have been bothered to actually READ, states unequivocally that the budget of the Lagos state government is N665.588billion.

N665 (.588) is NOT the same as N666.

I was surprised when I saw the erroneous headline since Gov. Ambode is a Christian and if for no other reason than not to lose himself and APC the Christian electorate, he would not be stupid enough to do such a thing. Even looking at the figure, for all one knows, there may probably have been a deliberate attempt to avoid that 666.

A much, much higher and true standard of professionalism and integrity is expected from BN, most especially in volatile times like these all over the world, not only locally, where sometimes the slightest thing could turn out to be a powder keg of dynamite setting off violence, hatred, killings and unrest; BN’s legal team would, also, have been expected to advise it as such misrepresentation is grounds for a suit from the Lagos state government.
