“A large percentage of rape victims are willing preys” OAP @MayourSpeaks is Trending for the Wrong Reasons

OAP @MayourSpeaks has been trending on Twitter all day because of his very controversial views on rape.

His views are very myopic and unfortunately they are also not as educative as he thinks they are.

Rape is a very sensitive issue and it should always be addressed as such. This young man has done the opposite of that. Sadly, the result of being brazen and controversial when talking about rape is that even IF you have something sensible to say, it gets lost in the drone of your insensitivity.

See the tweets below.

In all this, I just hope he has learnt from the backlash. I think most guys who tweet thoughts like these do so from a place of love and concern but unfortunately do not know better. I was brought up to respect people and their boundaries so I am proud to say I have never raped anyone. Unfortunately however, I admit I did share similar views with this guy and though I have never tweeted such, I have pointed accusing fingers at victims in the past until a few months ago.

Sola Adio had tweeted something similar to this: “Ladies, do not chill alone with a guy you know wants you. An erect penis is no respecter of persons”.

A girl replied with something similar:

“Guys, do not chill alone with a lady you know wants you. A wet and throbbing vagina is no respecter of persons”.

That was all it took for me to see that really, the emphasis should be on the perpetrators.

For those who still do not get it, a lady who wants a guy even when alone with him, will most likely accept a NO if the guy says so and will NOT rape him. I hope he has learnt that today. We learn everyday!

Sorry dear Alisha, dont worry those bastards will surely meet their Waterloo either in this life or after. I was just going to say idiots like him don’t even have the statistics. A woman is more likely to be raped in her home by armed robbers in Nigeria which clearly has nothing to do with dressing. Rape is mostly a crime of oppourtunity which is why it’s usually the weak and venerable that fall victims that’s why these days it’s becoming more and more children. Rape is perpetuated by cowards who justify the act to themselves with this guys lack of reasoning. By the way some of the countries with dressing laws that have strict religious laws still have the highest rape statistics showing it has nothing to do with dressing. I know of an SU woman , no earrings, long skirt everything that was raped on her way back from night vigil.

P.Si hope this sicko has been fired . Please which Radio Station does he work for, we need to start a petition and boycott that station until this rape apologist is fired otherwise the station is saying they condone rape

I’m disappointed in bella naija for posting such foolishness. I know, you guys are looking to get our attention but there should be boundaries. He’s not even worth responding to.

      March 4, 2016 at 4:52 pm

      Hi Olu,

I am very passionate about the movement to curb rape and I can assure you that this post was not done in a bid to get this guy more popular.

Instead I believe our BellaNaija readers share their thoughts and by so doing hopefully change the mindset of other people who think like this. There can NEVER be too many discussions about rape and hopefully the more we talk about it, the more people understand what is right and wrong.

Hopefully this young man also learns a thing or two about proper etiquette when it comes to talking about rape.

Statistics show high percentage of rape is done by someone you know or I’ve seen around. Its not alway total strangers neither does it have anythjng to do with dressing. A 5yr old rape victim knows nothing about indecent dressing. A woman dressing a certain way is not an excuse for a man to force himself. This argument and excuse should be dead by now, its nonsense.

      March 4, 2016 at 6:08 pm

I agree that he should certainly lose his job! Social media and the freedom of speech is not enough reason for people to be insensitive and talk carelessly. After all, the guy that mocked his colleagues biracial son on his Facebook page was rightly sacked. We as a community MUST understand that while we may have differing views, we must NEVER be in a position whereby we believe we have a reason to be cruel in the things we say or do. Kindness, sensitivity, empathy cost absolutely Nothing and I’m glad that we are beginning to see that emotional intelligence is key not only in the work place but in life generally. He should be sacked because his words and thoughts reflect on his employer whether they believe it or not!

    • Everyone needs to calm down

      March 4, 2016 at 6:46 pm

Yes, yes, don’t rape, don’t steal, don’t kill……………….. but the truth while this is the right thing to do, the reality is, there are many people out there who do the opposite. while the guy had it wrong with the Hijab nonsense, he did make some valid point. I don’t think rape would ever be eradicated, there are sick and there are always gonna be sick perverts living among us. But as a woman, especially younger ones, being careful with who you hang with and also more importantly where. Why would you follow a person you’ve only met to his house when you can choose an open and crowded avenue to meet? why leave your child with a stranger unsupervised, or even not care about the whereabouts of your kids? all the bad sh!t that happen day in day out, no one wants it but it does, so that’s why we should play our part in keeping ourselves safe from falling “EASY’ prey……a drunk passed out college girl is an easy prey for, perverted boys to mess with, a sober girl isn’t, not that she can’t fall victim too but the chances is very little to non, what’s even better is a girl in her dorm, out for the night.

Or the 3year old child? Would he say they were immodestly dressed? I believe he is looking for cheap publicity cos all he just spewed are just pure thrash for Lawma to carry.

So what happens to the modest ladies who get raped, even girls with no breasts get raped, or haven’t read the stories where little girls get raped? Rape is never about the lady but about the sickness in the mind of the perpetrator. Don’t come here and preach prevention when you have no idea of what it feels like. I do not want to abuse you or tell you to ‘die in your sleep’ but I pray a close family member of yours is never raped so you don’t face the trauma rape victims go through.
I know this guy will not accept any other view, but is the radio station he works for in agreement with his view, if not then he should be fired immediately as he has brought a bad name to your station. If Manny could lose endorsements for calling gay people animals then this man deserves to lose his job.

Do I blame him? NO….. I blame his parents, the government, the churches and mosques, the teachers, our parents and all the other bodies that failed to teach boys and men the right thing….. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW BETTER… RIGHT STARTS TO LOOK WRONG AND WRONG BECOMES RIGHT.

I also blame we women for not aspiring to positions of change…. there would be a hard law passed on rape and child molestation if only 25% of the senate was FEMALE…. but instead women settle for less.

I’m all for modesty but do not make rape the victim’s fault please. as long as she says no… its no and no matter how she was dressed its still no. what is give your ass maximum security??? You could wear a long flare skirt with a long sleeved shirt and still get raped. How dare this doofus make such statements. Anyway, the same way a psychologist could use rape as a child to clap back at someone, this one too can type anything.people that rape babies and little kids were the kids dressed immodestly. Don’t smoke too much weed before you tweet next time. you sound like a misogynist at heart sir.

In the middle east where they are covered from head to toe ppl aren’t raped.
Even boys who are fully clothed in trouser and shirt are raped by other men, I guess next thing you will say is his trouser was too tight or he didn’t wear inner shirt, so his nipples protruded thru d shirt.
In all his rambling, he never mentioned self control. Are we crude animals that anythn we see in d least bit attractive we must hump on it.

Will I not practice self control, must I eat every piece of cake im offered, even when im on a diet ? I may go home dreaming of it, but once I know it aint good for my waist line, it just isn’t.

Let me steal a FB post that went viral and just copy and paste it here:
    Ten rape prevention tips:
    1. Don’t put drugs in women’s drinks.
    2. When you see a woman walking by herself, leave her alone.
    3. If you pull over to help a woman whose car has broken down, remember not to rape her.
    4. If you are in an elevator and a woman gets in, don’t rape her.
    5. When you encounter a woman who is asleep, the safest course of action is to not rape her.
    6. Never creep into a woman’s home through an unlocked door or window, or spring out at her from between parked cars, or rape her.
    7. Remember, people go to the laundry room to do their laundry. Do not attempt to molest someone who is alone in a laundry room.
    8. Use the Buddy System! If it is inconvenient for you to stop yourself from raping women, ask a trusted friend to accompany you at all times.
    9. Carry a rape whistle. If you find that you are about to rape someone, blow the whistle until someone comes to stop you.
    10. Don’t fucking rape people.
    I will add –
11: If you have stupid opinions such as rape is because of the way people dress, glue your fucking eyes shut. Poke yourself in the eye, blind yourself, No one dresses for you, to please or provoke you.
12.Whenever you have these stupid opinions that you think are intelligent? step away from the fucking keyboard.. might I suggest a past time such as swallowing bleach?

Too much nonsense lately, Ese, should men beat women like that should be a question in this day and age (should they beat women? ) and now this? If he does not get fired by the end of the day, Nigerians have not done their job. He is on the radio you say and in a position to influence people, he should not be given a platform, not one for him to spread his stupid opinons. so – #Mayornospeak. He needs to know his opinion is not on, and really his superiors at work should get on this. No apology is enough this time around. Women take a step forward and fuckers like this drag us 50 years back.
    . (apologies for the swear words… )

Sadly, many Nigerians share this OAP’s views. My heart broke over and over again as I read similar comments on Ese’s abduction saga on this website. In a sane, developed country, this OAP would have lost his job by now. But alas, this is Nigeria. I used to have raging arguments with my colleagues about rape. At first, I was surprised when some of my female colleagues (even those who schooled “in the abroad”) also declared that if a woman sleeps over in a man’s house, or walks around scantily dressed, she deserves to be raped. My surprise has since worn off. Like Oprah Winfrey famously said, when people show you who you are the first time, believe them. So, I’ve taken note of every single rape apologist in my office, and I avoid them in social gatherings. .

    March 4, 2016 at 3:46 pm

I don’t know who the heck he is, but I just read through his tweets, and found out that “quite a number” of his tweets “makes sense”.
Unfortunately, many peeps including Bellanaija are being overly emotional.
I like where he says, “a rapist is a criminal, don’t expect a criminal to reason with you…”
Everyone should take precautions to avoid stories that touch. Banks spend millions on security-from cctvs to personnel, to technology to “prevent” bandits from “raping” our monies kept with them.
You and I take everyday precautions to keep ourselves safe, from building high fences + barb wires,to avoiding certain places considered dangerous.
The law provides for criminals to be jailed some spanning years behind bars, but it hasn’t stopped crime. What stops crime in this part of the world is preventive measures by you and I.
No matter the punishment to be dished out to rapists, they will always exist and keep up with their criminal acts. Protect ur self, your female children, keep them out of preying eyes of lunatics as much as you can. For some of us men that still have conscience, we’ll gladly report any rapist caught in the act, but instead of being emotional, Act, in the way you can.

    • whocares

      March 4, 2016 at 4:02 pm

@Charles- you cannot justify rape.. a rapist is a criminal and therefore unreasonable is not a justification. A murderer is also a criminal. How about we murder you and then tell you, oh you should have bought barbed wire fence instead of the cement fence you have? The fact that he stated that a person gets raped based on how they dress is dress nonsensical. NO MEANS NO. Women should not go through life deciding on what to wear based on the rapeability of their attire. When you leave your house, do you think, oh my trousers is too tight, I might get raped today? No, however, women are supposed to have that in their contemplation now? A woman leaves home with tight trousers, she gets raped and somehow it is because of how she is dressed. That is an idiotic line of reasoning. When he said have you ever seen a woman in Hijab being raped is even more so. He is a fucking idiot, and ignorant too. How he got his job, I will never know, but he needs to lose that job. Women in Hijab get raped daily, only they call it marriage!

    • Charles

      March 4, 2016 at 4:25 pm

Wow…if what you could make out of what I just wrote there as justifying rape, then you just validated my point, many of you have let your emotions overrun your rationality.
But I will still tell you, if you have female wards, especially young ones, protect them as much as you can. Apply preventive measures as much as you can. How you apply it, is up to you.
Rape is real. Rapists are lurking around waiting for the next prey. No amount of emotions on a faceless forum/blog like Bellanaija will change that fact. No amount of punishment, 50 years behind bar or what have you, will stop them. No amount of online campaign to “Stop rape” will stop it. This is Nigeria, shine your eyes.
      God bless

Here man, take a tool and go off yourself! Yes it’s an emotional topic! Lots of lifes are ruined from rape and you’re here ‘giving advice’.
Go and read the comments below the most recent Lady Gaga rape case and then use your ologbon dori eja mu logic to respond to each comment and make a case that they deserved it or even that they could have done something to prevent it. Almost 30 comments and all were kids, early teens or armed robbers…ALL! How do you guys then come forward with this attack on women. I know many rape victims…not one of them had a mini skirt on! Not one!
I’m waiting for the day a Nigerian man will go on a viral rant AGAINST rape, calling fellow man out on their BS! No means No! You can’t rape someone that says no…animals!! You guys coming here to call us emotional are all basic! No intelligence whatsoever…because common sense implies that if there’s any occasion to be emotional it’s when it comes to rape…wait till you get butt raped and violated…then come back with your fake ass logic….mssschew!

    • tish

      March 4, 2016 at 4:31 pm

You are daft Charles. Daft! As daft as the mayourspeaks fellow! You guys don’t get it yeah? A rapist has a mental problem. Any man that can have sex with an unwilling woman is sick! You are talking about protecting oneself by way of modesty? Keep away from prayer eyes? Why doesn’t one just lock up oneself in a safe since it’s now a comparison with safe guarding money? Do you know how many women are raped by their husbands? How many kids, as in babies are even raped? Very soon you’ll come up with how animals can protect themselves from people that derive sick pleasure from sleeping with them. You don’t have a conscience, a woman that doesn’t want doesn’t want, naked or otherwise! If you cant handle that seek help, and take mayourspeaks with you!

    • Adesola Ade-Unuigbe

      March 4, 2016 at 4:43 pm

      Hiya Charles.

If you read my introduction you will see where I said that rape is a very very sensitive issue. Talking about it should also be done in a sensitive way so as not to get emotions riled up. Because when emotions are riled up as a result of insensitivity by people who feel they HAVE to say something, the message gets lost.

You have done exactly what the OAP did and sadly, it doesn’t help anybody. All he achieved – instead of passing his message across – was come off as insensitive.

It is important to know that there are women have been victims of rape, through no fault of their own, who will read what ever you have to say about rape. These are mothers, sisters, daughters, nieces, who as a result of messages like this will blame themselves or worse, keep quiet and not expose their predators.

If @mayourspeaks truly wanted to be helpful in informing women on these so called “preventive measures” for rape, he could have used a wiser method to convey his message. Sadly in this case his message will fall on deaf ears because of his insensitivity in passing the message across.

Rape will ALWAYS be an emotional topic. The sooner we understand that, the sooner we find better ways to communicate.

I think Nigerians don’t really understand how to pass sensitive matters across..

WELL, rape will exists as long as thieves, politicians etc, exists.

The point is, it is possible to prevent rape : e.g You are a girl…. you have your own house, bedroom, bed, yet, you followed Mr A to his house for the night and you’re saying you don’t want to do the DO. lol. You hardly know Mr A (even Husbands rape their wives…so who are you that the strange Mr A wont rape you) While this is so wrong . The point here is our girls (not the married ones experiencing rape) should be vigilant. Don’t go out late at night, the human heart is desperately wicked.

This goes for guys as well… who tell you say dem no dey rape guys lol….

Everyone should just be vigilant and lets try to prevent the simple scenarios. You can’t prevent a husband and wife…. You can’t prevent boyfriend and girlfriend to some extent.

At the end of the day, you have your phone in your pocket doesn’t mean it can’t be stolen (either by force or by style or trick). you just have to be vigilant.

Enough said Biko…make i go back go do some work.

      March 4, 2016 at 5:28 pm

Rape cannot happen in the afternoon abi? Rape is a social problem – you can’t solve rape by telling men and women not to socialise? You ignorantly harp on women going to a guys house at night what of the rapes that happen in the morning, afternoon or evening? Men should not allow themselves be in a position to be accused of rape, simple!

So by your reasoning, why is there not a prevalence of rape at the beaches, swimming pools?
Why is anybody not raping female sprinters during the Olympics?
How should three year olds and toddlers dress to prevent those animals from raping them as we read on bellanaija/LIB/other blogs almost daily?

Best comment, don’t mind the delusional BN females..a criminal is a criminal , a rapist is a rapist , he/she does not give a daMN about long feminist lectures… I will rather teach my daughter to come home early,do not be in situations you have to be drunk.
Do not walk alone at night.
Stay away from bad friends especially the so called liberated women, hear me roar types (they are just empty drums)..etc
Personally, I beleieve every rapist should be castrated , every theif should be caught and locked up for life… but protect yourself as much as you can because whether we like it or not ,they are very bad, insane people out there who does not give a toss. You can give all the feminist talk you like, it won’t make a difference…actually, studies show that majority of men raised in a broken home or by single mothers does not respect women even though they love their mothers but they don’t care about other women. They are too emotional and always lash out violently (I wonder why)

JeEz, this is just common sense, why do we lock our doors and cars and other valuable materials we have, do we go around leaVing them open saying a thief/obber should know better or should start to respect us

      March 4, 2016 at 5:43 pm

@MD- So how is a woman to protect herself from rape? This is a legitimate question I am asking you so I will look forward to a response from you. Actually I wont. I will not bother with your response. . I will describe three scenarios below and I want a reasonable explanation of how those people have failed to protect themselves from rape.
      1. The little children that get raped, in what ways have they failed to protect themselves?
      2. Wives who do not want to have sex with their husband, but he forces them to, in what ways have they failed to protect themselves
      3. A lady leaves her home in broad day light, and gets raped in an elevator, in what way has she failed to protect herself?
      4. A lady finishes work at 12pm and is going home- is she expected to sleep at work to protect herself from rapists?
I try to avoid personal insults when I respond to comments, but bros /sis, you lack common sense. If you possess one and you have misplaced it, kindly locate it, and I urge you, I beg you, please, bring it along when you make a comment in public. This issue is bigger than being safe or trying to keep yourself safe. Women get raped daily in situations that are “supposedly” safe, so rape is not restricted to what you have seen or heard in your little world. Why am I even bashing my head against the wall with your likes? You cant fight stupid.

Why you will sit down to justify reasons for rape is beyond me!!!! what kind of man are you?? Do you protect yourself with CCTV cameras?? why would you expect a woman to be completely covered up just to feel safe?? Do you not have control as a man or are you comparing your specie to animals?? How can you justify RAPE OOOO? There is no excuse whatsoever one would forcefully sleep with a woman even if she is stark naked!!!!! it can never be justified as you will expect that we as human beings are different from ANIMALS!!!! How you can support such words from a man in this 21st century is beyond me!! Why not justify pedophilia or isnt that considered rape in your books?? what of those that go for our grandmothers?? Frankly speaking, you need serious help for it is only animals that think like you!!! CHOOSE YOUR WORDS CAREFULLY

This guy must be high on something like dried pawpaw leaves. People rape because they know they will get away with in our country. The victims will not speak out for the stigma that comes with it. Try to go places outside of Nigeria, then see ladies in bikinis or dressed the way they like, even in pubs and you touched not even grab. You will spend time in jail for assault not to talk of rape. If you were brought up right and you re-born yourself to be the man you should be, you won’t be disgracing yourself and your entire family writing like this! I blame your employer.

This is insane , for the life of me I don’t know why Bella is giving this dunce what he wants . Crass , cheap publicity ! ” Rape ” it is not about what the rapist sees , it is about control , a sick
atavistic impulse . There is no justification whatsoever for it . I’m a dude , I’ve spent nights at friend’s home whom are ladies and for the fact that she is wearing a lingerie in front of me does not give me a reason to be an animal . Its all about self control , self control . Without it we’re no less than a rabid dog roaming the streets .

Precautionary measures does not lie solely on the victim. Its only in Ngeria that a girl gets raped and also takes the blame for it. What about cases where 2 yr olds are raped or even innocent 10 yr olds. And male kids also get molsted and raped too !. were they also any provocative dressing or faults from these lot.
The law in all civil parts of the world remains the most significant and highest preventative measure against sexual offence. For example, countries with tough and existent laws against rape , creates a clear awareness of how many years a rapist will spend behind bars.
The law in itself should have harsh sentences against rape as a no 1 deterent.
The footballer guy Adam’s is about to be thrown in jail for sexual encounters with a 15yrold girl whom he was supposed to be mere friends & some sort of role model to.
And someone in Nigeria is blaming how girls dress as a major cause of rape.
What about little boys , 12 yr old boys, and even eldery people that get raped. yes , I heard of a guy who raped elderly people in care homes when he worked there as a carer.

    Tah! Smell out!

My 2 kobo in no particular order –

    – Despite my name, I maintain that Sex without consent is a crime and is disgusting. Would you want someone to rape your sister (or brother) because she (or he) wore “seductive” clothing?

    – A cold shower is better than a cold cell. A Kirikiri cell is very hot though. That is where you will land if you rape someone. Hell is even hotter. That is where your soul may land if you rape someone.

    – In fact, tah! smell out!

  32. Mr. Egghead

    March 4, 2016 at 4:35 pm

    Nothing justifies rape
if a man parks his brand new BMW in the middle of the road at Apongbon by 11pm, leaves the keys in the ignition and goes home to sleep, he should not expect to see his car washed and warmed-up the next morning.
However, the same man can park his car in a vault and it would still get stolen.

People tend to get very emotional when it comes to rape and they have every right to do so but sometimes to make fufu you have to put the garri in hot water.

    • MIA

      March 4, 2016 at 4:48 pm

Just when you think you havent heard it all you just hear this
    1. Mr Man I have questions for you what is your definition of decent dressing?
My traditional dress is a wrapper tied across my chest. So that qualifies me for rape?
    2. Before the advent of religion in Nigeria we were naked we wore no clothes. was that indecent? did it warrant rape?
    3. You need to wrap your head in shame, because rape has absolutely nothing to do with what you wear. Rape is a crime a sadistic, filthy twisted behaviour that only twisted people would defend.
Men need to be raised to respect women to take their eyes off women to learn to control saidstic urges and seek psychological help.

      March 4, 2016 at 5:12 pm

Of course you had to drag God into this. Now read and hopefully learn: rape has absolutely nothing to do with sex; rape is about power. My worry is that it might already be too late to change the ignorant thought process of you and millions of other Nigerian men. The sooner we teach little boys that they do not own girls’ bodies, that they aren’t entitled to girls’ bodies, that they should respect people of all genders, and that they need to exercise self-control in every situation, the better for this country and the whole world.

I have a question for you, everyday I leave my house by 5am to get to work, my heart pounding cos I rarely see anyone. So to keep ‘safe’ I should lock myself in my houses and die of stavation?
Also for some time now people have been robbed while stuck in traffic, so are we to blame them for having a car or for daring to drive on the road?
He started his insensitive tweets with ‘hijab’ so all of us non hijab wearing ladies got it coming abi???

  35. Nahum

    March 4, 2016 at 4:46 pm

Every time I say Nigerian men have serious issues, my head gets bitten off. This guy is the reason I speak against Nigerian men. He focused all his tweets on women dressing modestly and one measly tweet addressing men. The reason why women and children get raped stems from a society that has raised their men to believe that they have rights over a woman’s body. While I am not an advocate of skimpy dressing, it gives no man that right to violate that woman. You have no right to take anything by force. Your wife’s body is not yours to violate at will, you have no right to relieve sexual tension by violating an innocent child and you have no right to violate a woman because she wears a mini skirt. Our men need to be taught SELF-CONTROL!!!! When we start teaching men this, we will see a drastic reduction in rape.

Rape is bad ,rape is evil, rapist are criminal.rapist are psychological inbalanced .That been said, i wouldn’t walk naked through one zanga like that in bauchi at night, where those homos dey wreak havoc because i want to claim right. A woman has a right to her body and i fully support that.Yes the narrative is “no means no” and we want society to abide, but abeg sometimes use ur common sense , Dead body nor dey judge case for court. Most times the victims of rape were not complicit, but when u can abeg dont give d devil a chance and give urself brain,The lady that live tweeted her rape after taking a shower with dude and was shouting up and down as rape activist, what happened to the case????. It is like in UNIBEN those days, be forming freedom and work pass EKOSODIN by 2 am for night only you as a girl or guy, if anything happen to you,NOBODY will sympathize with you!!. your language writing skill is very poor
you don´t share perspectives with insults – ¨idiots¨
your perspective is very myopic and biased
my biggest annoyance right now is who interviewed you for this your oap job,if this mentality is the best you can bring to your job I seriously think they are wasting the salary that you are being paid.
Your writing skills are horrible I can only wonder what your speaking skills will sound like, forming ¨wanna¨ on top your rubbish perspectives. You better save whatever little money they are paying you now to go and advance your skills.

Come abroad with this mentality and your will end up in jail, abi did you not read about the Nigerian student at the University of Saskatchewan?

Oap that still writes ¨should in case¨΅is a big concern to me because it only goes to show the failure of our Educational system, just imagine this kind of writing and opinion and he even has a job that gives him access to millions of listeners.

    March 4, 2016 at 5:38 pm

I have commented just once since i started visiting this blog but right now, I just have to comment. Mr OAP you are a disgrace. We understood all the rubish you wrote.
you say you have never heard of a girl in hijad was raped. thank God you say ” i have never heard” does that mean they don’t get raped. It is like saying women in sadi arabia don’t get raped. You are an ignorant bastard.
Do you know moslem women are the highest victims of sexual violence because of child marriage? What do you have to say about the devils who rape children, babies, grandmothers, pregnant women. It is also because they were exposing their bodies.
Do you know that majority of our girls are raped by a family member, someone their parents trust? what do all these facts say? Since you a so stupid let me explain what these means. It means rapists are cowards, they are sick people, they go for the most vulnerable, It has nothing to do with dressing. there are so many girls out there who want to be laid in exchange for chicken change or even for free. They ignore all those and go for the vunerable. They are just evil like that.
I do not know if you once raped someone and you are trying to justify your actions or you are just trying so hard to be controversial. You can save your foolish advice for your wife and daughters if you have any. We do not take advice from people with myopic brains.

Not defending dude. I have never heard of him until this post. He got the job because he is qualified to do it. That is his employers felt this hence why he is on air. He did not just walk on, did he?. He just happens to be silly with his views. That is like finding out someone who is a revered lecturer at a prestigious Uni is wife beater but keeps it well hidden and they you say how did he get the job?

Would you have questioned this radio presenter’s skills if he did no say what he said? No. We cannot go on like people do not have their own personal views that is just silly. He was stupid enough to air them and this and only this is why you are aware of his views. It does not negate the fact he can do his job.

The real issue is this man’s views. It would be wiser BN to please focus on how help can be offered to rape victims. Not just comment on the latest gist as we love to do here on BN.

I just remembered the girl who was murdered by guys that lived in her neighborhood because one of them asked her out and she refused. They came to her parents house to rape her and she fought them and so they brutally murdered her. There is no justification for rape. Yes we try to be safe but rape is something that can happen to anyone no matter how safe you try to be. It requires a mental shift and complete re-orientation as well as faster prosecution by the authorities and harsher punishment.

Right after she left, my house was broken into by two teenagers(probably have been watching my movements) and physically assaulted and raped me brutally. Guess i was a “willing prey”? Why does this guy still have a jobon air? Such a dangerous mind should not be on a platform where he can easily pollute impressionable minds. #verydisgusted.

It is very sad that freedom of speech is so free, if everyone had to pay before they shared an opinion the world would be a better place. Firstly rape has nothing to do with appearance or sex of the victim it’s about the rapist asserting dominance/power over the victim. Enough women wearing hijabs get rapped just read or listen to the news, straight men get rapped by straight men (this is actually very common but due to the stigma, it is not talked about), then there are the pedophiles who prey on children. So @ Charles and Mr OAP how do the people above insure against rape. By the way Mr OAP I know you do not read or listen to the news just thank your stars you are not in a country that would take action against you for the nonsense you twitted, forget job loss you would have lost your freedom (No Means No)

No means no, Rape is not about appearance or sexuality, sexual orientation, location, time or any other factor you have stated. it’s about dominance. Men women and children get rapped, regardless of appearance, sexual orientation or location. There is no such thing as a willing pray please educate yourself before you before you spew such nonsense again. Mr OAP read the news educate yourself about Rape and what happens to people spreading offensive content round the world By the way this could be you Mr OAP. As I find your content offensive

A girl I met on Instagram visited me wearing a skimpy dress with no pants on. I won’t lie when I tried making out with her and she refused I was so mad! Told her not to dress that way to a mans house cuz some men can’t control themselves in such situation… RAPE IS NOT JUSTIFIABLE!

I understand exactly what he is trying to say but i guess he said it in the wrong way. You can’t embark on a topic like this and not ruffle some feathers. My only problem with women saying they can dress any how they like is they need to remember they are in a country with quite a lot of uneducated/unenlightened men. Its like wearing a short skirt to one of the sharia states and think the men are just going to walk past. The men need to be educated and enlightened before i will ever feel comfortable having my daughter dress how she wishes. I always say the rest of the developed world are in 2016 while Nigeria is still in 1847. It will take the men a while to get there with their level of thinking so all Nigerian women need to understand this. Dress how you wish but also be careful of your surroundings/environment at the same time for now.

Agreed Banks. God bless you. It baffles me the way some Nigerian women think. Just shocking.

You unfortunately cannot dress however you like, Dress scantily or in a suggestive way, to work everyday looking like Jezebel in a Global Fortune500 company and let me know how that works for you, but hey I can dress how I like. If ladies dress in a suggestive way and behave in a suggestive way, what exactly are you suggesting? This is just addressing dressing. Who are you planning to attract exactly? Laws of attraction. Ponder on that.

Ladies truly need to be aware of your surroundings,

I think the guy got what he wanted “ATTENTION”. I’ve never heard of him before until Bellanaija decided to make him popular, and kudos to you Bellanaija, you got what you wanted. Some news should be left alone. In as much as you’re looking for something to post, this is not it.
The guys foolishness, insensitivity and stupidity is not of this realm. He needs to be checked.

I was raped by one of the robbers that robbed us one night in my final year in the University, and I remember that my boyfriend then insinuated that my dressing might have contributed to it! Smh…. Unfortunately, ppl like these two still exist with their mindset. Shame on them. Educated illiterates.

@ John, What sort of human being are you? It is bad enough that you think that but to even have the audacity to voice such vile, evil thoughts. What is wrong with humanity? May it never happen to us or our loved one. OMG!!!! I am beyond repulsed by your response. Sometimes i believe I am past being shocked and surprised by what some pigs disguised in human skin can spurt out of their mouth and then I am shocked again.

I was molested when I was 10yrs old and Mr OAP, I was wearing a long Abaya with long jeans underneath. I am very angry at your tweet. OAP that I know are in intelligent even when voicing an opinion but I believed that your opinion on this here on matter is dangerously warped. Purge yourself, and also receive sense right now. And pls dont come here apologising tomorrow ‘cos that apology will not cut it. Stupidity is not acceptable at whatever level. Enough said.

    Sorry for this epistle oh.

    Rape is a very sensitive subject, and it is a crime just like burglary, looting of funds, or pipe line vandalisation. We as people are built to take advantage or prey on others that we perceive to have weaker personalities, be younger, or of the weaker sex. You wonder why our parents ask our sisters to never go out dressed provocatively or why insurers never cover women against losses due to rape. Hence the conversation about prevention. Maybe because it happens a dime a dozen, or because the emotional effect of rape can not be estimated as a financial loss as against life, and when it comes to proving guilt or innocence it comes down to ‘he said, she said’. I would like to answer some questions before I go on;

    Q. Have I ever hit a woman?
    A. Yes, once. I paid for it and that was the last time.
    Q. Have I ever raped a woman?
    A. I have been a bit forceful, and it did not end in a rape suit.
    Q. Am I turned on by a naked woman?
    A. I am turned on more by a scantily dressed lady.

You begin to sense that most advice come from our personal experiences. Because we as guys end up sleeping with some of the ladies that are provocatively dressed despite their so called “fronting” and we overcome some resistances (some school of thought brands it “NO MEANS YES” )we assume that it was a subtle request for sex. Hence the dress advice.

Women are made up of a thousand layers. Some times its just her wanting to be appreciated as a woman who “gat it”. Just like Davido flaunting his latest purchase. The difference is Davido or even any other celebrity will not cry emotional foul when this accessory is taken forcefully, but will hammer on his fundamental rights when you ask him he can not flaunt it.

The truth is woman already are conscious of this ill in the society that is why you hear things like “do not leave your drink when you want to visit the ladies”, “keep your jewelries when in traffic”and recently “do not let any uncle touch you in your”… which are prevention techniques they are willing to accept. It becomes a very touchy subject when the issue bothers remotely on their right to express their God given beauty.

The advice I must confess is coming from a place of love, why? Because men would approach an indecently exposed lady even when with her friends and some times they get lucky. Trust me these guys are not the real rapists. The real rapists do not care… It is who they are. So cases that involve indecently dressed woman or a woman in the wrong place at the wrong time just happen to feed the narrative. So please cut him some slack if he expresses himself from his place of understanding.

So please dress how ever you like and go wherever you want so you can achieve whatever you want. Just please do not put yourself in a position to get raped as you never really know because they are preys out there just like every other criminal for reasons best known to them.

rape is sensetive but after all said and done, how do we prevent rape? i am a woman and i believe we can prevent rape. how?
    1. we as women are easy prey so we sud try as much as possible to dress apporiate so u wont have a stalker targetting you.
    2. avoid dark places and try as much as possible to be in a crowd and if going out at night pls ensure to do that with your home girls never alone.
3.dont go visiting a stranger you met online in his home or alone.
4.for our young ones avoid putting them in the care of houseboys or so called relatives only in the house take them to a busy place even if na church let them be there till u are thru witj what is keeping you busy.
5.learn the act of self denfence let our young girls also be encouraged to learn self defence from tender age
6.finally pray, pray and pray to God for protection .#we can prevent it,if we try# but sha just my humble opinion

Lola, you and the idiotic OAP are cut from the same cloth.

It’s only someone who hasn’t gone through the ordeal before that can come here and start listing how women can “prevent” rape. Nonsense!!!

Sigh its cos of monsters like this I was terrified of having a baby girl. I prayed for the child I was carrying to be male seems the world is a bit fairer to them. What were my sis and I wearing at the age of 8 and 6 that made us get molested by half brothers. We didn’t even have breasts. Men what did women ever do to you? Mothers if you have sons please raise them right. Raise them to respect women. Religious organizations tell people that their actions have consequences all they do is talk bout money. God help us.

Not the first time this message will be propagated (i.e. prevention is better than rape.) And the backlash is usually very great because saying such a thing resembles blaming the victim.

Self-defense is good stuff, we can offer good self-defense training to girls, women, and people in general. Good self-defense training is not just physical it’s psychological. And it’s better than rape.

I hope I put the message in a way that does not offend?
