“It takes a lot of courage and heart” – Serena Williams on Maria Sharapova’s drug test drama

Though they may be rivals on the court, this hasn’t stopped tennis star Serena Williams from showing nothing but support towards Maria Sharapova in light of her recent failed drug test.

Serena spoke about the matter during a press conference for her upcoming match with Caroline Wozniacki yesterday.

“I think most people were surprised, but most people were happy that she was up front. It’s just about taking responsibility, which she admitted she was willing to do. As Maria says, she’s ready to take responsibility, and that takes a lot of courage and heart. She’s always shown courage and heart (in tennis) and it’s no different.” she said.

Recall that Sharapova during a recent press conference confessed that she tested positive during the Australia Open in January for meldonium, a recent addition to the International Tennis Federation’s banned substance list.

Meldonium is not approved by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) but is used in Sharapova’s native Russia, commonly used to treat heart disease. She has not yet been informed of any suspension or related punishment handed down by the ITF.

Serena, if I were you I would have kept quiet though. I mean this blonde blue-eyed chic is getting a princess treatment already so your support doesn’t matter. If this had been your test results Serena, you know they would have taken you to the gas chambers.

I don’t think so. These tennis stars have very good PR teams working with them. She was asked and she answered well. These hacks will always want their views.

In public, they will support but behind the scenes, not so much. They also have history (not for the matches Serena annihilated her.)

@Jide I thought Serena’s quick response was both smart and strategic. Keeping silent considering the rivalry between them, or making a contrary view would have worked against her and her brand. In my opinion, it was a trap and she didn’t fall into it.

How will it work against Serena’s brand? If it was the other way around, even if it works against Maria’s brand, she will not come out to say anything let alone support. It’s not smart and strategic, it’s kissing ass. It’s ridiculous, how much blacks are put under pressure to support a fellow white colleague when it’s them everybody will remain mute.

Do you think maybe, perhaps, …the ‘media’ sought her out and asked her a question about it? You don’t keep quiet in such a situation …you just have to play it smart and safe, which is what she did.

Serena, will be the most hated athlete/person right now. Her medals will be stripped away from her. It will turn into a racial discrimination issue. The whole America will have a topic trending to say about blacks since they like to always dispute our intelligence and natural abilities. All of a sudden, serena will represent all of the great Ablack athletes and claim it was n’t earned. Even if it will hurt Maria’s brand considering their rivalry, she won’t come out to say anything about stupid courage. What is courageous about lying and being caught? Absolutely nothing. Her close friends won’t even defend her. Maria, right now is still treated like a princess that made a mistake. It’s not trending at all, everybody is brushing over it.
      To hell with white supremacy.

But why are they justifying that it’s legal in her native country Russia?!?!? The fact is it’s not legal in the USA so who gives a f*ck about Russia?! Oh because she’s Oyinbo and blue blooded they must now pander to her and be making excuses for why it might seem justifiable in some shape or form! I tire for this scewed reporting! If it was Serena… No going back for her, in fact, every black athlete in history dead or alive would be retested! Msteeeeeeew.

I respect Serene for this. She used to shade the heck out of Serena in the past. If it was the other way around, Shawhatever wouldn’t have said a word.

I heard today on sports news that this blond hair blue eyed princess might get a mild 6-12 month punishment as against a 5year ban. Like someone said IF THIS WAS SERENA …. FILL IN THE BLANKS.
