Watch our BellaNaija Zuckerberg Moment!

Uche Pedro & Mark ZuckerbergMark Zuckerberg, Founder of Facebook‘s trip to Lagos was epic.
You could literally feel the buzz in the room yesterday at the developers and entrepreneurs Q&A.
There was something about his excitement about what he described as Nigeria’s “Entrepreneurial Energy” that was contagious.
It was special…

Some of the key points Zuck highlighted yes, we just called him Zuck…we are now close like that :) are listed below.

Not that we needed a Silicon Valley Billionaire to remind us but it’s always very encouraging to hear positive things about Nigeria and Nigerians. For us, it’s a reminder that despite all the challenges, we should keep striving.

It was great to hear that he recognised the

  • Hardwork
  • Drive
  • Entrepreneurial Energy
  • Resilience of Nigerian entrepreneurs and developers.

He talked about a young lady named Blessing who is a graduate of the Andela programme (The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative invested in the startup this year). Blessing applied and didn’t get into the Andela programme (The programme is highly selective and has an admission rate famously even lower than Harvard’s).
Though she was not admitted, she showed up anyway and she kept on showing up until they gave her a chance. She ended up doing exceptionally well and now her career in software engineering is thriving.

Such a great story! You can watch the full video HERE.

Before we dive into our BellaNaija Moment (YAY), let us mention one of the quotes which stood out. –

The best way to predict the future is to change it.

BellaNaija Founder, Uche Pedro was at the event. Watch!

Excellent question Uche, and a salient response from Zuckerberg. “Fail and learn from it. And just make sure that you’re doing what you can to learn from it as quickly as possible.”

Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, examples that true wealth comes in the form of humility. They are among the richest people in the world but you will never know. They did not steal from their government, they did not bunker oil, they did not dupe from innocent people, but they used what God gave them and YET are not in your face with their wealth.

They are humble enough to sit with people and inspire.

An ordinary Nigerian with ill-gotten wealth, will force people to bend over for a mere hundreds of naira, shout their praise, leave the whole front seat jn church for them, and there are many inexplicable things.

This has taught me that to be wealthy one has to understand what the true meaning of life is, relationships. Fostering relationships. And being simple.

Uche just dey shine teeth like babe wey meet im crush for the first time

Mark ( to Uche): So I’m just gonna come up her and shake your hand.
    Uche (in oyinbo accent): *giggling?*. . .Wow. . . *giggling?’ . . . Ookay!. . . .*arches back and continues giggling?* . . . ‘more giggles?’ . . .’yet more giggling?’

Uche finally erupts into a mini-orgasm of inexplicable giggling and preening when the Zuck blesses the palm of her hand with his caucasian flesh.

I think somebody slept well that night.

Lol very creative . On a side note not one politician especially the information or communication minister sat in on these meetings. Yes it wasn’t an official visit and yes his not a world leader. But their inability to comprehend the power of this visit and this SMALL” boy is astonishing . The ability to shape the narrative of your country is in the information you allow people see . And this boy holds it in his hand . The senile old men couldn’t comprehend the value this visit.
Tomorrow they will say they want to curb social media freedom without understanding they have absolutely no power over it ???

Re. Uche thanks for sharing. Continue to inspire.

At Mark, he is simply the best and the most humble ever despite his continuous success.
Great work to all our entrepreneurs that continue to work hard to shape the world positively x

Who would not blush being in the presence of such a genius.
It is quite intimidating, yet empowering.
I will blush that way too, if I meet one of the people that I find inspiring and that includes Uche.

Linda ignored the invite as she wasn’t aware who the guest would be. Am sure when she realized it was Mark she flogged and cried herself to sleep.
