Super Falcons: NFF needs urgent ‘surgical operation’ – Solomon Dalung

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, says the nation’s football governing body, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), needs an urgent ‘surgical operation’ to restore sanity into the game of football.

Dalong stated this while reacting to the sit-in protest embarked upon by the victorious Super Falcons over non-payment of their outstanding allowances and bonuses by the NFF.

The minister, who spoke to State House correspondents, frowned at the inability of the NFF to resettle the Super Falcons’ allowances and bonuses as well as the outstanding salaries of their coaches.

“And after the return, it was not managed properly, there are issues of pending salaries of the coaches. The coaches have not been paid for a long time. The coaches too have this grievances alongside.

I think it is a complex situation but the entire governance of football deserves an urgent surgery. If that surgery is not done we will always live with the embarrassment.

I am talking about the Governance of football administration in Nigeria. Government has to do the surgery because they have been at the receiving end of the embarrassment.

We must be prepared to do this to save the future of football in Nigeria,” Dalung said.

He described as unfortunate that the situation where the Super Falcons, having consistently won the trophy eight times, would be celebrating their victory “with bitter feelings’’.

“We are working round the clock to ensure that what belongs to them legitimately is given to them. This has to do with government process. One thing I always make clear is that the process of request for funds for sporting projects must come earlier to meet the objectives. Don’t forget that nobody even knew the team will emerge victorious. But, we were confident they will emerge victorious. It is already established in sports tradition, when you win this is what you are entitled to,’’ he said.

The minister, who met with the aggrieved senior female footballers, at Agura Hotel, Abuja, on Thursday, said efforts had been intensified to pay them all their allowances and bonuses.

The Super Falcons, who are the current African champion, won the just concluded African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) after beating hosts Cameroon by 1-0 in the final of the competition.

“you are working round the clock to give them what is theirs” BIG fat LIE!!its the sports departments and its officers that need surgery as they do not have sense to appreciate the efforts the girls /coaches have put in to always go far and win even when they do not have the financial backing or support needed….those incharge are just shameful and our girls deserve better….they last time they travelled cos they did not win they arrived and where stranded at the airport no official car or escort was around to receive them ,so pls tell me Mr Dalung who needs the surgery? you/your officials or them?

With all that you still collect fat salaries for doing NOTHING!

Surgery not advised at this time. Let’s treat the underlying issue first. Diverted funds is the issue. Investigate and release the names of the monsters that stole the money these people should be getting. Forget prosecuting, na long thing and we all know nothing will come out of it. Fire and shame them publicly with proof and give a deadline for them to return the money. We can also get their wives to tame them 🙂

Thank you. Budgets were made. Money was sent. Yet these so-called and useless NFF and sports minister have all greedily shared the money and now he’s speaking grammar. Isn’t that the same way they humiliated the National team during the Rio Olympics? Leaving them stranded and dissing the team on twitter. Govt had released money meant for flight expenses but those wicked and inhumane individuals diverted the funds and left our boys in a desperate and embarrassing state until Delta airlines and Mikel came to our rescue and we still won the match and got medals afterward. Then the silly NFF tried snatching away the money awarded to the boys by the Japanese guy. Solomon Dalung or water ur name is. U’re one very corrupt and polluted human. Just ssshhhhh there!
