“If you cannot sleep with a man, don’t go to his house” – Rising Comedian Baba De Baba faces Backlash for his Skit promoting Rape
Rising comedian Baba de Baba made a tasteless “comedic skit” which he shared on his Facebook page a couple of days ago and he has been facing major backlash ever since the video went viral.
In the skit, titled “Rape Nonsense“, Baba de Baba is accused of raping a girl by a policeman but he explains to the policeman that he did not rape the girl, rather he forcefully slept with her after she stayed with him for a week without sex. He explains in the skit that he had spent money on her in the club and that whenever she showers, she’ll lay on the bed with him, without doing anything.
At the end of the video, Baba de Baba faces the camera and says “If you cannot sleep with a man, don’t go to his house”
The skit has caused major backlash online and the comedian has now put his social media pages on private. He has also added “#SayNoToRape” to his profile bio.
It’s unfortunate that many people still promote “rape culture”. Rape culture is a term that was coined in the United States in the 1970s. It was designed to show the ways in which society blamed victims of sexual assault and normalized sexual violence.
We need to continue to stamp this out.
Consent has changed. It’s gone beyond No means No.
