Goodluck Jonathan, Ben Murray Bruce hail Wizkid on #MOBOAwards "Best International Act" Win

Last night was a big night for Nigeria’s superstar singer Wizkid as he won the “Best International Act” category at the 2017 MOBO Awards.

Wizkid beat the likes of Drake, SZA, Cardi B, JAY-Z, Kendrick Lamar among others, to take home the award.

Former president Goodluck Jonathan on Facebook, congratulated Wizkid, saying the win “is a proud moment for Nigeria”. Jonathan wrote:

When Nigeria does well, I cannot help but feel well. My happiness is tied to the happiness of Nigeria and when Nigerians break records and take the name of Nigeria to greater heights it exhilarates me. Thank you Wizkid for raising Nigeria’s flag high for the positive, not the negative. Your emergence as the Best International Act at the #MOBOAwards is a proud moment for Nigeria. And the fact that you emerged over JAY-Z and Drake makes it even more celebratory. WELL DONE. GEJ.

Senator representing Bayelsa East constituency Ben Murray Bruce also congratulated the singer, writing on Twitter:

Dear , I‘ve been in the entertainment business as an investor since 1980 and one of my proudest moments for Nigerian music is the day you defeated both Jayz and , two of the biggest stars in the world, to win the Best international Act at the well done.

Congrats to wizkid on the award!!! But truth be told emerging over Jay-Z and drake is because Jay-Z and drake don’t really rate the MOBO awards. Trust me if they rated the MOBO awards and wanted the award in that category there’s no way he could have beat them.

No, madam Sharon, emerging over Drake and Jay Z is because the Brits (that vote at the MOBOs) truly generally value Wizkid over Drake or Jay Z. Wizkid won the EMEA airwaves in 2017. This is his year. Allow it, fam, allow it. Thanks. Congrats Starboy. You have done us proud. Living legend, Oshey.

Trust me even the Brits don’t really rate the MOBO awards. Maybe the black Brits do but even amongst the black Brits Jay-Z and drake will emerge any day over wizkid. Jay-Z and drake were not interested that’s why wizkid emerged and I am a wizkid fan!

      @sharon aka Ms emergence.
Brits voted Wizkid over jay z and drake. Issorai, Oya go and sleep now.
African music has become so popular and more people are exposed to it.
I went to chipotle t last week, and Wizkid’s “sweet love” played on the radio.
Brits are more welcoming to international ethnic acts than Americans.
And Grammy here is very predictable. They go with the most trending artist. Bey and jay z trended with their pro black activism, social issues using their music and their twins.

Dear Madam sharon or stone whatever you are called, why is wizkid’s win giving you so much grief? What have you won?Did Jay Z and Drake call you to tell you they weren’t interested in the awards and did they tell to also help in hammering on the point that they really do not need it? Please do not be bitter over his win, celebrate the young legend …Wizkid has done marvelously well dis year by the help and grace of God. Peace!!!!!!!!!

Was going to compliment BN on their playlist too. Really enjoying it each week.

@topic, can we just celebrate Wizzy and move on in peace? Its irrelevant whether or not Jay-z wanted it.

Dear Mz elle carefully read my comment and read yours again and be honest, who sounds grieved or agitated? I am a wizkid fan but I am aware of certain things. . Has he done well this year….. Most definitely!

Jay-Z is racking up nominations for the GRAMMY awards because Those are the kind of awards that they really care about and hustle for. The MOBOS are not that prestigious. Anybody who knows anything about the industry knows that. You can tell from the calibre of people they invited to perform. If you are talking the Brit awards which is the UK version on the Grammys then yes they would care more about that one. If Jay-Z or drake cared about the MOBOS they would have attended or at least sent in a video acknowledging the nomination. All awards are nice but they are not all on the same level. I hope you see my point. If not…. Let’s agree to disagree.
