Nasarawa State Bans Teachers, Principal for Flogging Students - BellaNaija

Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura

The Nasarawa State Government has suspended the Principal of Government Science Secondary School, Nasarawa-Eggon, along with 3 other teachers, for flogging students, Punch reports.

The officials of the school have reportedly been suspended for one month for the beating of the students as seen in a video that trended on social media.

The update was reportedly confirmed to Northern City News by the state’s Commissioner for Education Tijjani Ahmed.

The matter is being investigated, he added, to enable the ministry take appropriate action. He said:

We have constituted a committee to investigate the matter and report to the ministry in the next one week to enable the ministry to take appropriate action.

Already, three staff members of the school including the Principal have been given a one-month suspension over their involvement in the corporal punishment pending the report of the committee set up by the ministry.

The state has also reportedly banned corporal punishment in all the public schools.

The ban has been communicated to all the public schools across the 13 local governments and 18 development areas that make up the state, he said.

He added that if teachers wish to punish students, they should seek out other forms of punishment, or they would “face disciplinary action.”

Nope, not in school. You expect teachers that have not been paid salaries to do anything mildly? ??
My guy, biko let the kids stick to cutting grass as punishment… I hated that crap ???

Please you don’t have to use a Cain on children for them to listen because they are not animals. Which do you think is worse? 6 strokes of the Cain that a child will forget in max 48 hours or washing the toilet for 4 days. Truth is after washing the toilet, she will learn the importance of leaving a place in the right state and how to show more empathy towards the people who do it normally..

I mistakenly showed the video to my 10 & 7 year old and they’ve been having nightmares. The questions they asked were endless. Other forms of punishment must be employed instead of flogging students with electric wire or whatever
