Shining lights, exquisite couture, amazing music, amongst others were just a few features of a successful event which launched the maiden edition of the African Women’s Business Initiative (AWBI) by Rising Tide Africa (RTA). The event was a fashion show for the brand-launch of TORLOWEI, a high-end haute couture brand by internationally renowned designer, Patience Torlowei.
The event which was sponsored by RisingTideAfrica, a female angel investor group and Access Bank took place on Saturday, October 13th, 2018 in Ikoyi. The ambiance was very artistic, designed with vivid and minimal colors which truly reflected the theme of the event “Garden of Eden”.
Models elegantly graced the runway one after the other with pieces ranging from lingerie to lounge wears, ready to wear and tasteful haute couture garments, all designed by Torlowei. Other side attractions of the event were dance presentations and a wide array of delicious finger foods and drinks.
In welcoming the guests, one of the pioneer members of Rising Tide Africa, Yemi Keri explained RTA’s key role in supporting and enabling the Torlowei brand through the African Women’s Business Initiative; an initiative conceived by RTA for the purpose of providing support and resources necessary for female entrepreneurs and business owners to build their businesses to become investment-ready. Torlowei would be the first beneficiary of this initiative. On his part, Herbert Wigwe, Group Managing Director of Access Bank Plc. expressed his delight with the show, commending the Rising Tide Africa Network’s initiative with a commitment that Access Bank would be supporting RTA in putting together the required business structure to make Torlowei brand a global product. This will include backing the AWBI with marketing, branding, production and other necessary resources.
Over 150 guests were present including Evelyn Oputu, Chairperson of RTA, Members of Rising Tide Africa, Managing Directors of all Access Bank Plc Offices in Africa, Emmy Award-winning television show co-host, singer, writer and speaker: Michelle Hammond, Ace Broadcaster: Ruth Benamaisia-Opiaas well as other professionals and enthusiasts in the fashion industry.
