“I Don Tire” – The Real Reason why Waje may Quit Music

There’s a video of singer Waje that’s trending on social media and that video has given us reasons to pause and reflect on the illusions of the Nigerian music industry.

In the video, the singer and mum of one is talking about how expensive it is to make music and promote music in Nigeria.

I don’t have money for publicity, I want to quit,” she says in the video.

It’s such a raw and vulnerable moment. The singer speaks passionately and boldly about how much effort she has poured into her music craft and how the gains have been less than expected and far in-between. She talks about her passion for music and trying to balance her finances.

It’s truly a rare glimpse into what music stars in the Nigerian music industry go through – beyond the glitz and glam of social media.

Watch the video below.

    Waje Queen!!!
Watching this video, I got emotional..
it shows you are human and real…
it’s okay to go through what you are going through because a human and life is not perfect
Why not look at the other side of what this music has brought to your life..
quitting is not an option sis, because God did not bring you this far to leave you.
You can take a break in music and go for writings and shows or other passions you love but do not drop music because you are BLESSED for it.
I love your art and will still love to see your work now and future!
Just breathe and take a retreat and talk to your maker, maybe there is a missing link…
I will say a word of Prayer of strength for U just because you ‘re still loved by many!

There is a difference between making music and music business. The business is about adapting to trends and whether we like it or not, the money is in the hands of the trendsetters. Waje should feature one of them abeg and she will smile to the bank too. Stay strong sis.

Dear Bellanaija, it has been a few weeks and your website is not any less confusing for me. I am even getting lazy to visit the site because navigating it, is like a mathematical problem. Maybe next time you change the look of the site, you should write a post and introduce the new layout to us ardent followers.
