Gunmen kidnap Kogi State magistrate, demand N100m ransom

Six schoolgirls and two of their teachers have been abducted by gunmen at the Engraver’s College in Kakau Daji, Chikun local government area of Kaduna state.

The bandits were said to have invaded the school around midnight by breaking the school fence, Premium Times report.

Kakau Daji is a village located along the dreaded Kaduna-Abuja road, where kidnapping and banditry are rampant.

Spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, Yakubu Sabo, who confirmed the incident said the gunmen invaded the school through the fence.

In a statement, Sabo said a combined team of police mobile force and anti-kidnapping squad had commenced a manhunt for the kidnappers with a view to rescuing the victims and apprehending the culprits.

The police spokesperson urged private school authorities to ensure prompt report of “suspicious persons” around their premises “to forestall future occurrence of ugly incidents.”

The development came as many parts of Kaduna State remained under attack from armed bandits. Hundreds of people have been abducted in the state this year alone, with most of the abductions being reported on Abuja-Kaduna Highway.
