Fresh off their triumphant showing at the ThisDay Arise African Fashion Collective show at New York Fashion Week, Nigerian label Tiffany Amber is riding high. The buzz from that experience provided the inspiration they needed to deliver their first-ever ankara collection. The ‘Tiffany Amber Look’ has always been ethereal, flowy, feminine  and dare we say – privé so many wondered how Tiffany Amber would maintain their essence using  ‘the fabric of the people’. Well, we are glad to report that they took it within their stride and delivered a worthy collection that was distinctively Tiffany Amber. The staples were there; Shift dresses and trenches all cut to perfection. And then our fave – a deliciously appetizing jersey/ankara dress (added bravo, it was rocked by a fuller figured model – for model standards anyway). We love!

weldone great pieces but not a true work of a creative mind.
are nigerian designers working for vlisco now ?
vlisco is not even a nigerian print but made in holland.
jewel by lisa is more known with this kind of work, why does tiffany amber copy alot, use your mind not what other people are doing.
we heard all her beadings are from india hope this not true ooooo

nice pieces…. wish d designer would develop a nicer attitude…

she has way tooo much diva drama for her pseudo-diva self…

tiffany amber is awesome… folake folarin coker is not

Lami there is nothing wrong with doing the beading in India if there are not enough skilled beaders in Nigeria.

Most fabric is sourced from overseas (e.g silks, chiffons etc) and until we have developed our fashion industry to a world class level zips, beads, sequins, fabrics, machines etc will continue to come from abroad. Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton et al produce in China. Economies of scale, efficiency, infrastructure etc etc.

I think I just found a style for my christmas “dress”….lol…….I have to call my mum now ASAP!.lol

    • tomi March 12, 2009 at 7:19 PM

Plenty of skilled beaders in nigeria, and beading has been part of several native cultures for decades….(go to calabar)

Our garment industry is young and needs support. It will never get of its feet if everything is outsourced at this early stage.
Also because a lot of our designers are trained in copying from magazines as opposed to fashion, they have very little skill to pass on to the people who work for them, so the skillbase isnt growing.

cool collection but i have to agree with a comment up there, not terribly original. i like the getting away from stick thin models. there’s too much good food in africa, i beg!
