Genevieve Nnaji is living the “Nigerian Dream” – Check Out Y! Magazine’s Hot New Issue
Posted on Monday, August 8th, 2011 at 9:50 PMBy BellaNaija.com

Genevieve Nnaji is the cover star for the new issue of Y! Magazine’s “Nigerian Dream” Issue.
The cover feature includes an exclusive photoshoot and interview by Y!
Themed ‘The Nigerian Dream’ Issue, this edition explores the wide polarities of living and growing in Nigeria – on the one hand, a country where dreams are born and where you can enjoy a full, rich life of fulfilment and excitement; and on the other, a country that gives sp little and takes so much.
“It speaks both to the ideals we aspire to and the realities we live with as Nigerians,” says its editor, Chude Jideonwo. “Juxtaposing powerful images of loss, of want and of need with glamorous shoots, sparkling editorials and of course a delightful mishmash of the season’s pop culture highlights. It’s a full meal!”
Cover girl Genevieve opens up to Jideonwo about her rise from “everyday girl” to “everyone’s favourite girl” in a spectacular shoot photographed by Kelechi Amadi-Obi, styled by Maryanne Alabi and Yolanda Okereke with make-up and hair by Ugo for Make Me and David for MUD Studios. Recalling her first audition, the rumours of a Bond girl role, and her many endorsements, Genevieve tells parts of her story many haven’t heard before, and makes a clear statement: “I think the problem is a lot of people have forgotten where I am coming from.”

Fresh off the captivating Genevieve tale, the theme continues with a piece about the rise of Nigeria’s new set of technology visionaries with their eyes of Twitter, Facebook and Groupon; as well the tale of how the revolutionary ReVoDa mobile app was developed. And in Bikes, Boats and Balls, ‘Gbenga Awomodu takes a trip through Luxury Lane, profiling Nigeria’s fine breed of bikers, golfers and boat lovers.
On the other hand, are exclusive interviews by Isioma Osaje with young youth corps members who almost lost their lives in post-election violence in the North. A gripping essay by ‘Funlayo Akinosi on the battle to survive in Nigeria, and a fiery debate between young intellectuals Amara Nwakpa and Cheta Nwanze on the question of Nigeria as a failed state.
In between, are a delicious piece by fashion designer and columnist Rukky Ladoja who makes the case for her obsession with shoes; a feature on the end of Balogun Market as we know it and the rise of sexy new shopping complexes by style columnist Ifeanyi Dike Jr, and a feisty ‘Who’re You Calling A Spoilt Rich Kid’ piece by ‘Ifreke Inyang, amongst others. The inimitable Tolu Ogunlesi also takes a critical look at CNN big shot Piers Morgan in ‘The second – or third – coming of Piers.’
As usual of course, there are entertainment and lifestyle reviews and interviews – including TY Bello, Lami, Matilda Obaseki, Joseph Benjamin, Makida Moka, and others; and “the high priest of Nigeria’s pop culture’ also presents fashion extraordinaire with a fabulous photo shoot aptly themed Colour Deluxe. Yemi Olowu, Onyinye, Fafi Obi and Obi Somto light up the pages with summer colour!
“As usual, still working from the masters of the art of the magazine like our model Vanity Fair – we continue to focus on an ideal of a magazine that’s extremely well written, with editorials that are well thought out, and painstaking attention to every detail,” a statement from the magazine said.
A detailed listing of the stockists for the cover shoot as well as where to buy Y! In Lagos, Abuja and the rest of the country are on the website – www.ynaija.com.

http://temiville.wordpress.com/
fcuk Genevieve luks hawt. Love the fro
One word to describe you my lovely Genny is: Simply Classy
Genny s so gorgeous…i luv!
and u too like that please email me at xpensivek2k@gmail.com luv you too
love it!!!!! gene rocks!~
loving that hair genny
mehnnnnnnnnnn, black is beautiful,i lovethe radiance of her skin.yeah she is so simple and classy.
PS: you don’t have to bleach your skin colour to be fine, let genny be your example.
Genevieve Nnaji! Hmmm! Absolutely beautiful! Breath-taking!
On the front cover, she looks a bit like Omo-T
GORGEOUS!!!!!!!
She looks good in d pics except d facial expression 4 wen she’s on d couch. I don’t mean 2 hate at all but I c nothing SPEcTACULAR abt gene’s acting.. I mean shez der OK. She seems 2 act d same roles des days(older single working class lady looking 4 prince charming). So many oda actresses in my opinion act as good and beta like OmoT, Nse, Susan, kate H and so on. Den again I’m not hating. Just airing my view.
Ps.. Bellanaija post my message. I’m entittled 2 an opinion. Thanks
I agree their r more better actresses like Funke Akindele she always play different roles in movies she doesn’t always play the same role, but as u said her acting is ok but their is nothing special about it. BTW I’m not hating and she look good in the pics except for the second pic, what with her neck.
u two don’t have to keep reiterating the fact that you are not hating..just say it and leave…its constructive criticism and ignore whatever anyone would say u are entitled to your opinion
but she has that star power that many of her colleagues dont have , thats what sets her apart from others, u geerrit nw
It goes beyond the acting now…..its about the whole package. Genny simply stands out. with regards to acting a mono-type of role, I completely disagree, her movies speak in volumes abt her versatility e.g silent scandals, mirror, boy, ije etc even her oldies sharon stone (lol) they all have her acting different story lines. So far she has been a good ambassador of the country and she carries herself with dignity. As she said lets rmber where she is coming from.
She is classy but not a great actress. Mercy Johnson is much better in terms of her versatility and being able to interprete different roles.
did u SAY MERCY JOHNSON IS BETTER IN ACTING THAN GENEVIEVE? SAY WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLSSS JUST SLAP URSELF NOW FOR THAT LIE!!HABA LETS SPEAK THE TRUTH AND ENCOURAGE THOSE THAT ARE DOING WELL TO KEEP DOIN WELL..AFTER ALL MERCY JOHNSON SAID SHE LOOKS UP TO GENEVIEVE. MERCY IS A GOOD ACTRESS AND IF SHE KEEPS SAYIN YES TO ALL SORT OF MOVIES, SHE WONT GROW AS GENEVIEVE..IJE TANGO WITH ME, BURSTRIN OUT SILENT SCANDAL..NEED I SAY MORE?.
Oh no! You didn’t just say Mercy is better than Gene, did you??? What movies have you been watching??? Gene is a GREAT actress and that’s why she can’t just feature in movies anyhow. Gerrit?
what?? i am sure all you saw was bursting out and silent scandal…
Aw dare u compare Genny 2 Mercy Johnson? They r in 2 diff worlds and Mercy cnt av d sophistication dat Genny exudes all around her. Abegi, evn though u everyone’s entitled 2 their opinions, bt pls let’s be objective in our views & nt jst downplay for the sake of it
mehn this chick is getting better by the day.luv Genny 2 bits
Better as in?
this is about Genny, please stop the comparisons.
beau…..ti….ful dat is 2 say d beauty is full….go girl my role model….
Perfect cover, every other is ok, nothing too spectacular
i love u gal!!!! other actors take note. another actress would hv gone to buy d longest brazilian weave, the longest lash, the pinkest lipstick if they were gonna appear in a mag like dis. when will y’all ever take notes from gene’s life???less is more
@ winnergal…you know I thought I was the only one that noticed…she looks like Omotola sometimes…nw I see why they always cast them as sisters. Never understood it before…
Lovely lovegy Gene…
You can’t disappoint
Genevieve is looking HOTTTTTTTTTTTT!!! Lovin the black dress and poses and its good to see a different hairstyle!! Whoo
Loving the afro look on her. Go YNaija!
love it
Love the hair, funny i styled my hair like that today. lol
lovely coverrrrrrrrrrrr, where is bobbydox?
I guess when you’ve got it, u’ve got IT!!!
Why dont the rest of these RAZZISTIC Nollywood females learn from this lady. Mercy, Ini, Tontoh, Halima, Chika, Oge, Ufuoma, etc etc etc. I mean this lady is like in a league of her own. I cant even pinpoint one single one of th e up and comers who will in future be in a league like her. No body. All razzing it out by day.
i’m not much of a genny fan but that soft afro looks absolutely GORGEOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS on her! she needs to keep this hairstyle. rockin the natural!

CLASSY
Yes Genny you are hottttttttttttttt
:)
spend ur money on charity not on fashion , shows and magazine . you are beautiful but God have a reason why he blessed u
Wat do u mean? U do knw dat she was paid for being on d cover and not vice versa. Btw, who says she doesn’t give to charity, just because she doesn’t own an NGO or broadcast her charity works does not mean she doesn’t give. Eesh u need to think rationally before u speak.
Genny you are looking good and beautiful. Thank God for your life.
Classy and georgeous!
Genny u’r an ICON,n u’r an epitom of simplicity,u’r so so classy n hawt!!!!! lotz of luv

I love how Genevieve looks. I totally get her when she says a lot of people have forgotten where she is coming from and I have to admit I was one of those who forgot. Who remembers pimple faced but pretty Genevieve in those old nollywood movies? We look at her and think how privileged she is but who remembers or knows how hard it must have been for her as a single mother, trying to make ends meet and living with the “shame” of having a child out of wedlock and at such a young age? It might be fashionable now but it certainly wasn’t only a few years ago. Genevieve, I have to say applaud you for how far you’ve come and I apologize for being judgmental of you in the past.
Decent African website I have ever see…Good job and may God enlargen your territory…
GENEVIEVE NNAJI, KATE HENSHAW, STELLA AND NSE IKPE ETIM HAVE MASTERED THAT HOLLYWOOD CLASSYNESS!! AND THE MEN NEED TO STEP UP OH !!

Gene rocked the photo shoot…love all the pics and her make up is right on point. Fabulous!!
Genevieve is both a great actress as well as a style diva. Anyone who can only see one of the two entwined parts of her is entitled to his/her purblindness.

How and why does she looks so good?!!!
Lola x, London
http://lola-x.blogspot.com
always the best of all, you have done it again
nigeria is a failed state period……
except fashola becomes the next president……..the hope of nigerians would go to abyss
I dont see nytin spectacular abt her in dis cover, to me she looks ok,& infact shes luks kinda old if u take a veri close luk@her…
Hmm..jealous much.
Thanks a bunch, exactly my thoughts. I think there are a lot of “yes masters” on this blog. Sad because once someone express a contrary opinion she becomes a hater. The dress is ridiculous if you ask me!!
This edition of Y! Magazine is definitely a must read. A whole lot of features made this recent issue.
Gene is one Nigerian beauty with ageless appeal. Others are getting too fat or big as they get older.
Gene has always remained fit and beautiful.
kai…..babe is straightup killin ‘em…..all the razabites in nolloywood can only dream to wipe her as*……class, beauty, elegant…….only u genny
Great article, it looks like a good quality magazine and I appreciate that the article featured both sides of life in Nigeria, the dream and the reality. It’s such a mix of greatness and sorrow but our people still tirumph!
Yes they do! Well done to the team.
Genny genny genny, luv u much oh, that be like one of the best pics seen so far… Keep it up gurl
@ Bukunola, pls did u say Mercy Johnson can act better or as much as Ms. Genny??? Oh no U DIDN’T!!! Are u freakin’ kidding me??? Mercy is one of nollywood’s most horrible actresses…can’t stand her! gosh! @ ihatenonsense, u re just on point with ur list of ‘razzistic nollywood females’ who are totally giving nollywood a bad name! enuf said…Ms. Genny, u look AMAZING! always on point… luv always for u. #urno1fan#
GENE is a GODDESS!
LADIES achieve her Afro look by checking out:

BN please it would have been so nice to have a legible full page scan for us that don’t have access to the mag. Except this is a policy then carry on.
She was one of those women i used to love to hate and then i watched her interview on the Teju Baby Face Show and i couldn’t help but fall in love with her.She came across as a down to earth person with a very likeable personality. She is Nollywood’s answer to a beautiful, classy and talented actress. She has definately carved a niche for herself. And i ve been told on many occassions that i look like her.*Blushing*.
Vimbai…..you sure dont!
Lol.Of course you would be the one to reply.Mouthy, mouthy Amaka.
Hmmmmmm….. Genevieve nnaji oozes the real African woman. Sensuality…
I may need to visit an optician as I dont see what you’all are seeing!!! The dress is frumpy and the hair style, ages her a lot.
The young shall grow. She has lifted up her background from the earth above it. I love her confident, she believe whatever she want to gain can be possible for her. She’s recreative. Keep it up let other learn fro u
she look wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
what a pretty women i love her stay good oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. looooooooooooooooooooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu gene.
i
i love u ple post ur collection to my maills thank ilove u
i love u baby u re good iur look
my role model.keep it up .ua d best ever
aaaaahhhhhhhh…….greattttttttt
@ Luvlyn – I totally agree with you. There is absolutely nothing spectacular about Genevieve’s acting compared to the likes of Kate Henshaw-Nuttal, Omotola J. Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Stella Damasus, Bimbo Akintola, Edith Jane etc but the thing you have to recognize is that being a STAR has NOTHING to do with talent most of the time otherwise we wouldn’t have the likes of Kim Kardashian ruling the air waves. Yes, it helps to have talent but in SHOWbusiness, it helps when more than talent and good looks, you have that IT factor.
Genevieve is NOT a better actress than any of the ladies’ I have enumerated, Bimbo Akintola can act circles around her but what she does have that they have not fully cultivated for themselves is that star quality, elusiveness, mystic, aloofness, charm, that thing that makes you not want to take your eyes off her on screen. She has that certain je na sais quoi. She has gone from “girl next door” to “star next door”. Kate Henshaw-Nuttal and Omotola as her contemporaries have the emotional depth that Genevieve can only pray to have but something is at times missing. They come across like TV stars (Courtney Cox) versus Movie stars (Jennifer Aniston) and both ladies where in the same show, FRIENDS in the early 90′s. Courtney Cox is still doing TV while Jennifer who is for the most part a one note actor has soared in Hollywood. She worked on her image hence the reason why she’s the only actress who was on FRIENDS to break the curse.
I don’t know how else I can explain it, it’s just that thing that keeps the audience’s eyes draw to a person on screen even when they are surrounded by equally talented others. You can’t help but watch Genevieve even when she’s giving the worst performance ever, she’s watchable. She has figured out that it matters more how people see you in the industry than what you are bringing to it, if they see you as a star, you can get what you want offered to you without having to hustle for it. Why hasn’t CNN interviewed the rest of the ladies? Genevieve has created an image that say, “I AM THE HEAD B**CH IN NOLLYWOOD” that’s why.
Either you are born with it or you are not.U are , Gene! Black is beautiful.
Nigeria Beyonce …LWKMDDDD
LOVE U GEN U ARE THE BEST OF ALL
@ nave nice speech but I disagree! Genevieve has time and no responsibility which I think could have drawn her back! I think Omotola has like you said better acting skills and more appeal…I don’t see any other actress going through all she has and still surviving!
I think everybody has their moment…but I think Omotola has hours not moments! She she gets there ,I think it will be mega bigger…before that , geneveve can entertain…
this one na story!! gene is a babe..that hair is on point!!!
@ Dearie,
I beg to differ as well. Does Genevieve not have a child and a family to care for even she doesn’t have 4 like Omotola? Kate Henshaw-Nuttal has a child and a husband. What exactly do you mean that Genevieve has time and no responsibility? She has survived her own issues too to become who she is, do you think it’s easy to have dropped out of school pregnant? I know a lot about how she struggled which is not my business to divulge but that girl went through hell in Lagos trying to make it so please, let’s not play the game of show me your scars and I’ll show you mine. ALL of those actresses have had to come through some struggles, I doubt that anyone of them can claim that the bed was full of roses, hell even if anyone one of them had to pay back in kind (if you know what I mean), still dat na beans?
genny is jus too fyn….
I LOVE GENNY SHE LOOKS NATURAL ALWAYS, NO TOO MUCH MAKE UP, GAL U ARE GORGEOUS AS D DRESS KIP IT GAL LOVE YAHHHHHHHHH KISS
Genny!!!!! I love this woman……!!!
you’ve got it all gene
nice
Lovely Genevive, my lovely look-alike. Looking fab as usual. Your nose is looking kinda big, is there a bun in the oven? Hmm!
never design your character like a garden where any one can walk. but design your character like the sky, where everyone likes to reach you.
I like that she’s reserved about her life and you don’t get to hear every little detail.
i love genny to bits,love you a lot.kissessss
gene girl , u r d most smart and natural beauty i have ever seen on movies i love ur style
classsssssss!
sometimes i wonder y some people just sit in there houses and say thrash simply because they ave access to the inernet.hw can somebody say dat genny’s acting isnt impressing uptill nw dat she has gone internatonal?for God’s sakes,y r the so called versatile actress not on the international platform like genny if they can do it better?people think seriously before you say something xpecially in the public were ur point will be observed n stop embarrassing urselves pls………………..sighs……………
Jenny i luv u. u r such a simple, high thinking, gorgeous, sensible etc woman. Oh i don’t fogt i luv ur performance in movies.
Girl u 2 much, Keep it up my dear.
must pple hate??????????haba!!!!!!!!!!!!
