On the Friday 14th October 2011, the Civic Centre was filled out with women who call themselves WOW D.I.V.A.S (Wow of Worth Divinely Inspired Victoriously Anointed Sisters).
The WOW D.I.V.A.S invited the public to the first of its kind “Straight Talk” seminar to raise awareness on breast cancer including early screening. Medical experts were on hand to provide updated information, guidance and support.
Speakers at the event included Dr. Funmi Alakija, Dr. Rukevwe Ugwumba, Ebunola Anozie and Bolade Soremekun. The experts were able to dispel the common myths in Nigeria surrounding breast cancer.
Key messages included but were not limited to “ignorance is not bliss”, “breast cancer is not contagious” and “being breast aware can make all the difference.
Breast cancer survivors also shared their inspirational stories and gave practical tips on how they managed to survive and the impact of the diagnosis on their families.
The next day, Banquet Hall of the Civic Centre was bubbling once again as the WOW D.I.V.A.S, their families, friends, stakeholders and a host of celebrities celebrated the first year anniversay of the organization.
The theme of the anniversay dinner was Reflections: A Reflection on the Journey to Greatness. Genevieve Nnaji, Onyeka Onwenu, comedian Lepacious Bose as well as several dignitaries attended in grand style. Surprise celebrity artiste Wande Coal was there to entertain and thrilled the crowd with his various hits.
The WOW D.I.V.A.S performed their own musical version of “Heal the World” and “We Are The World”.
All proceeds of this event will support breast cancer awareness projects.
BN commends the WOW D.I.V.A.S on all their efforts! Ladies and Gentlemen let’s all be inspired to give back to our communities.

how will poor women learn about breast cancer ?!
Like!!!! Exactly what I was thinking! I am so happy about all their efforts to raise awareness about breast cancer but I feel like all these events happen amongst the same crowd. They need to reach out to the less affluent also, abi breast cancer dey look pocket size
The Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar was COMPLETELY FREE for any woman to attend. All they had to do to register was send an sms or email before 30 Sep. It was widely advertised in newspapers and magazine and radio
Breast Cancer is world wide of course they will hear about it. sorry if this answer is not that helpful i am only a child anyways
Whatever they put on those chairs is hideous.
My sentiments exactly. More than hideous even! That said, kudos to the women. It’s always heartwarming to see women doing great things together for other women.
Niceeee

You might have to copy and paste url into your web browser. but well worth it. Please do !!
High five, love to see sisters doing good for the society, but pls pls pls biko lose the services of whoever is responsible for the hideous looking chair and table covers! Chineke! Otherwise good job, well done.
Not sure what the issues about the chairs and tables are about! Talk about ‘spoting the Gorilla’! focusing opportunity and ignoring the ‘non-importants’!!! It was all about breast cancer awareness at this event and kudos to all who put this together. I doubt anyone was out there checking tables & chairs!! For more info, please download the brochure and share with friends and family!!
These chairs are hideous tho…… just takes your mind away from the whole purpose of the event…
true
I totally agree with you. The event was targeting the rich and those who already know what to do and where to go for treatment. So what’s the point of the awareness they are trying to promote.
