Uti Nwachukwu – The Birthday Boy
On Friday 3rd August 2012, Big Brother Africa All Stars 2010 Winner Uti Nwachukwu turned 30. To mark the beginning of a new chapter in his life, Uti celebrated his day with 67 widows at the Calabar Hall, Surulere, Lagos. The former reality star who is now a musician and actor, was all smiles at the venue, sporting his signature hair do, a white shirt and black pants.
To support Uti and celebrate with him as well as the 67 widows on his birthday, were some of his close friends in and out industry including Nigerian songstress Kefee, comedienne/Uti’s Jara TV co-host Helen Paul, former Mr Nigeria Kenneth Okolie, MC Ice Water, Meg Totanwa, Joy Egbunu, Michael Nwachukwu, Crozz, Alex Ekubo and his sister, Onah Nwachukwu. The event was hosted by Nigerian comic act Elenu.
Uti cut his birthday cakes with the 67 widows and presented gift items with his friends to them. They were also served finger licking snacks and refreshing drinks. When asked about how it felt to be 30 years, he said “I feel so happy, in the last 10 years, this is the first time I feel this confident and so happy, 30 is a big number, my life is going to change, I don’t owe anybody any explanation now, I am officially an adult, between now and a couple of years I hope to get married. I see myself as a success story and I thank God for that.”
Speaking on his reason for hosting 67 widows on his birthday, Uti said “I thank God for giving me people like Martini, Ify Okeke, Joy Sillo (President of his Fan Club – UFC), Oby Emeka, Pat Awele, Tonto Dikeh, who supported in a special way and every other person who came and supported this cause, they did their best to make this a success. I thank God for surrounding me with people who have good ideas like this.
People always remember the homeless, orphans, motherless babies, physically and mentally challenged and other less privileged, but what about Widows? Lots of women have been maltreated and even driven out and victimised! So many single women out there have sacrificed and still sacrifice all they have for their children thereby not having enough to do the extra things they need to. There is need to recognise widows like these and give them all the support they need at all times. This is why I have allowed press in, not to announce it but so that people bigger, richer and more influential than me will hopefully emulate this on a much bigger scale because some people have things to give but don’t know how to. By God’s grace he will lead us all to do something more permanent in the future”
Later in day, Martini hosted an after party for Uti’s friends and fans at the Piccolo Mondo, Adeola Odeku, Victoria Island, Lagos. At the afterparty, more celebrities were spotted wining and dining with Uti, some of which included AY Makun and his wife, Mabel, Freeze and his wife, Omoni & Nnamdi Oboli, Susan Peters, Nkiru Sylvanus, Tiwa Savage, Terry G, D’Prince, Gbenro Ajibade, Michael Nwachukwu, Uche Nwazeapu, Qriss Okagbue, Remmy Oyekunle and Damilola Adegbite.
Inside Piccolo Mondo, as guests sipped on different cocktails, rap sensation Uzikwendu (Ikechukwu’s Brother) as well as KCee and Harrysong performed their tracks to entertain all. The party later moved from the Piccolo Mondo to Caliente Bar & Club, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Uti has most definitely won my heart today. I’m seeing real and tangible gifts offered to these women and not flimsy stuff. Bible says, he who gives to the helpless, lends to the lord. Uti you have lent to the lord, and we all know that God will never owe, he will always repay. He who waters shall himself also be watered.
I can assure you that as you have moved people’s heart, much more have you moved the lord. I pray you lack no good thing. It shall be upward and onward for you. When other celebrities say there is a casting down, you shall be experiencing a lifting up.
As you have given out your heart and hands to the widows, your future wife shall never herself be widowed untimely. You shall never lack any good thing. Jehova will continue to increase you. Your pocket will never run dry….He will give you more and more seeds to continue to sow for his glory!

Yes! in some situation like with celebrities in Naija, who are surrounded by abject poverty stricken people around them and yet will spend lavishly on material things, it becomes imperative to make Charity and alms given public. It motivates others to do the same. Here in Britain, almost everyone is engaged in one charity work or the other. My account is monthly debited with not less than £13 to help contribute to the support of charity work. I never had such inspiration till I relocated to this place. And yea, I feel happy and honoured to doing it, and its thanks to all the priotised publicity and advertisements given to charity over here. Help the helpless!! this can never be over emphasised

It’s an obselete mentality to keep hiding acts of charity. If you can afford it, why not? Some people here even give as far a £100 a month to help. It’s only when it’s made public that some other person can be encouraged to trade buying brazilian hair, in order to put food on another person’s table.
I was motivated to join in the charity wagon, when I found someone like me of equal financial capacity doing the same. Had she hid her acts, I may never have been won over. And….geninuely won over.
My sister, have you heard the example of what Christ calls a fruitless tree, you are giving money but see how mean spirited your words to Moigal was. I’m sure you could have found a better way to convice her to be charitable instead of insults. So you truly give strangers money – Start with giving kind words they are cheaper and do alot more good.

What Uti did for these widows is noble. More Nigerians should give to charity or help the poor in their midst if they can. However, I always wonder why widows in our dear country Nigeria look so miserable with hardship written all over their faces. I say this because our people obsess and make so much noise about marraige making it seem as if getting married will solve all their problems in lives. At the end of the day, the minute the man passes on, the man’s family forsake the woman and the kids to their fate. Nigerian society is also hostile to women generally speaking and hostile to widows. Anyways, I thank God I don’t live in such a society. We have widows here in america but they don’t look haggard like Nigerian widows. This is because here in america, there are laws to protect women and services in place to assist them unlike our patriach, chuvinist society Nigeria.

The best part of this event was that someone remembered to bring in guys to carry the widows’ gifts for them! That is a detail so many people would have forgotten, which shows that the event planner knows their stuff

good one uti many more blissful years @ thelma dont hate on moigal its her opinion if you read the bible you would see were JESUS said when you give do not let your right hand know he spoke against making giving public.so if someone wants to give privately its their belief you calling her stingy is so off point and saying you give to charity comes off to someone as bragging oh i have done my bit.you dont know what she does, and finally you dont need to see people give before you give.thats the point JESUS was making it should come from your heart willingly.there are people who give but would rather you dont mention them so dont criticise people or think you are better because you give its private for some people.am not going to criticise uti its not my place iam happy he did this.giving should be part of us.

Dear Utti ,I am indeed inspired by what you have done,not even the richest in Nigeria have done this.I am a teacher and I run a non profit for needy children in Nigeria,in the cause of giving out to help ,I met five kids with serious eye problems that may be blind if nothing is done urgently,I am seeking for help for this children through bellanaija.One of them a ten year old has bee referred from LUTH to Eye Foundation on Isaac John Ikeja,master Joshua Akintoye is almost getting blind,I need donors ,they could pay directly to the hospital and not to our organization,The Children’s Right Advocate Foundation.He needs 280,000 naira for the operation.I wish 280 ,Nigerians can contribute 10000 naira each so that this child of a helpless widow will not be blind.God Bless bellanaija.God Bless you all.

I love, love, love what Uti did…
However, I don’t love Uti that much but I definitely don’t hate him. Now, if every single ‘celebreity’ did something like this, Nigeria would be a much better place.
Why are some people acting like Uti (although it was nice of him to celebrate his birthday with the widows) was the first celeb to do something like this. From what I know Omotola is the 1st. Plus she did nt only give food- which will last for a couple of mths and thats it. She gave them a makeover – to sum ppl its just physical apperance but to this women it was more than that,it shows dem that they are loved and it gave them confidence to go out and look for a deserving future for themselves and their kids. I think Uti does not fully understand what this women are feeling because its nt all about food. That’s were I think Omotola got it. She understands that after the food is finished what next? shes seen her mother suffered so she understands that dis women need more than food. Look for the article about the makeover on Bellanaija and see the genuine smile on the women faces.
