Uti Nwachukwu – The Birthday Boy

On Friday 3rd August 2012, Big Brother Africa All Stars 2010 Winner Uti Nwachukwu turned 30. To mark the beginning of a new chapter in his life, Uti celebrated his day with 67 widows at the Calabar Hall, Surulere, Lagos. The former reality star who is now a musician and actor, was all smiles at the venue, sporting his signature hair do, a white shirt and black pants.

To support Uti and celebrate with him as well as the 67 widows on his birthday, were some of his close friends in and out industry including Nigerian songstress Kefee, comedienne/Uti’s Jara TV co-host Helen Paul, former Mr Nigeria Kenneth Okolie, MC Ice Water, Meg Totanwa, Joy Egbunu, Michael Nwachukwu, Crozz, Alex Ekubo and his sister, Onah Nwachukwu. The event was hosted by Nigerian comic act Elenu.

Uti cut his birthday cakes with the 67 widows and presented gift items with his friends to them. They were also served finger licking snacks and refreshing drinks. When asked about how it felt to be 30 years, he said “I feel so happy, in the last 10 years, this is the first time I feel this confident and so happy, 30 is a big number, my life is going to change, I don’t owe anybody any explanation now, I am officially an adult, between now and a couple of years I hope to get married. I see myself as a success story and I thank God for that.”

Speaking on his reason for hosting 67 widows on his birthday, Uti said “I thank God for giving me people like Martini, Ify Okeke, Joy Sillo (President of his Fan Club – UFC), Oby Emeka, Pat Awele, Tonto Dikeh, who supported in a special way and every other person who came and supported this cause, they did their best to make this a success. I thank God for surrounding me with people who have good ideas like this.

People always remember the homeless, orphans, motherless babies, physically and mentally challenged and other less privileged, but what about Widows? Lots of women have been maltreated and even driven out and victimised! So many single women out there have sacrificed and still sacrifice all they have for their children thereby not having enough to do the extra things they need to. There is need to recognise widows like these and give them all the support they need at all times. This is why I have allowed press in, not to announce it but so that people bigger, richer and more influential than me will hopefully emulate this on a much bigger scale because some people have things to give but don’t know how to. By God’s grace he will lead us all to do something more permanent in the future”

Later in day, Martini hosted an after party for Uti’s friends and fans at the Piccolo Mondo, Adeola Odeku, Victoria Island, Lagos. At the afterparty, more celebrities were spotted wining and dining with Uti, some of which included AY Makun and his wife, Mabel, Freeze and his wife, Omoni & Nnamdi Oboli, Susan Peters, Nkiru Sylvanus, Tiwa Savage, Terry G, D’Prince, Gbenro Ajibade, Michael Nwachukwu, Uche Nwazeapu, Qriss Okagbue, Remmy Oyekunle and Damilola Adegbite.

Inside Piccolo Mondo, as guests sipped on different cocktails, rap sensation Uzikwendu (Ikechukwu’s Brother) as well as KCee and Harrysong performed their tracks to entertain all. The party later moved from the Piccolo Mondo to Caliente Bar & Club, Victoria Island, Lagos.

From BellaNaija.com to Uti Nwachukwu, we wish you all the best in your life and career and a happy belated birthday!

    don’t know what to say……

    • Joyce August 9, 2012 at 6:14 pm

Uti has most definitely won my heart today. I’m seeing real and tangible gifts offered to these women and not flimsy stuff. Bible says, he who gives to the helpless, lends to the lord. Uti you have lent to the lord, and we all know that God will never owe, he will always repay. He who waters shall himself also be watered.

I can assure you that as you have moved people’s heart, much more have you moved the lord. I pray you lack no good thing. It shall be upward and onward for you. When other celebrities say there is a casting down, you shall be experiencing a lifting up.
As you have given out your heart and hands to the widows, your future wife shall never herself be widowed untimely. You shall never lack any good thing. Jehova will continue to increase you. Your pocket will never run dry….He will give you more and more seeds to continue to sow for his glory!

    • Tracey August 9, 2012 at 9:10 pm

This is the first time I’m seeing Uti look effortlessly Charming. His not looking like he is trying too hard to look good unlike alot of his previous appearances where he looks like he’s striving hard, here it’s all coming out from within and it’s all because of a good heart shining through.
When you do good, charm naturally exudes from within. Big ups man!

  • Iyawo Donjazzy August 9, 2012 at 4:35 pm

it would be interesting to know why he chose 67 widows as opposed to 50 or 60 etc….dude even had t-shirts made lol……God bless his generous heart and replenish his pockets and please give him and other kindhearted like minded personalities the know how to start a sustainable project for these widows and many others in their situation. Don’t give fish all the time, give them a net so they can do the fishing themselves. Guests at the afterparty did not fail me as usual, lady with white stockings why now? Extra curvy chick in printed shorts double why now? i reserve my comment for the rest oh serial party attendee susan peters i see you gurllllllllllll mehn Nkiru Sylvanus is so chubby these days were it not for the caption i probably wouldn’t have recognised her. ok firstly….UTI hbd. secondly…i never knew u had such a big heart, may u b blessed.
Now observations: Uti u kinda over dressed for your own party. You 4 wear casual at least whilst celebrating with the widows…besides the women were dressed in wrapper attire. also, i dont get y they should wear a tshirt with ur face on it*wondering* Just do your charity and go…this isnt governorship election (take note).
wow the event was parked with enough people o…tho i was disappointed not to see tonto dike’s pic coz uti mentioned her name in his thank u note.
some people tried sha but na ordinary bday…people sholud losen up. I thick Ona Nwachukwu was dressed for the occasion (casual dressn is 4 bday) and d babe on low cut nailed that look. Infact let me stop here.
    Finally…those cakes…yummy!!!! Uti well done once again,remain blessed o :)

some people still manage to show up half naked to a charity-type event.

  • lele August 9, 2012 at 6:09 pm

uti did a great job but must everyone know when a celebrity gives alms to the less privileged?

    • Thelma August 9, 2012 at 6:40 pm

Yes! in some situation like with celebrities in Naija, who are surrounded by abject poverty stricken people around them and yet will spend lavishly on material things, it becomes imperative to make Charity and alms given public. It motivates others to do the same. Here in Britain, almost everyone is engaged in one charity work or the other. My account is monthly debited with not less than £13 to help contribute to the support of charity work. I never had such inspiration till I relocated to this place. And yea, I feel happy and honoured to doing it, and its thanks to all the priotised publicity and advertisements given to charity over here. Help the helpless!! this can never be over emphasised

      • MoiGAL August 10, 2012 at 9:33 am

whether your account is debited a million pounds or a penny is really between you and God, we dont need to know. Your other points are well noted

      • Thelma August 10, 2012 at 10:33 am

And Yes Moigal! (such an ugly name by the way) Yes!! you need to know my account is debited to help support charity you stingy soul! And it’s because of people like you that hamper or demoralise others who have a charitable soul. I’m sure you secretly wish I can be giving you that monthly £13 pounds for you to save up to keep buying brazilian hair and black berry phones huh? you don’t need to hide your intentions…it’s all showing vividly.

It’s an obselete mentality to keep hiding acts of charity. If you can afford it, why not? Some people here even give as far a £100 a month to help. It’s only when it’s made public that some other person can be encouraged to trade buying brazilian hair, in order to put food on another person’s table.

I was motivated to join in the charity wagon, when I found someone like me of equal financial capacity doing the same. Had she hid her acts, I may never have been won over. And….geninuely won over.

      • Peace August 11, 2012 at 5:20 pm

My sister, have you heard the example of what Christ calls a fruitless tree, you are giving money but see how mean spirited your words to Moigal was. I’m sure you could have found a better way to convice her to be charitable instead of insults. So you truly give strangers money – Start with giving kind words they are cheaper and do alot more good.

  • Janded August 9, 2012 at 6:09 pm

  • @ajiriavae August 9, 2012 at 8:20 pm

The fact that he spent that much on women who need a helping hand impresses me so I will forgive the fact that there were cameras and everybody is going to see it. At the end of the day, these women went home with something that adds some sort of value.
Susan is my girl, so I’m glad she didn’t disappoint. I don’t see anything wrong with Tiwa’s hair style. It’s the facial expression that I think spoiled the look, not the hair.

  • Naveah August 9, 2012 at 8:46 pm

Great job, Uti! The only thing with these types of events is AFTER dem chop all the rice finish, what now? Back to square one! Instead of stealing money and taking care of their own, why doesn’t the govt have social services for people? These are what taxes do in civilized, democratic societies – they pay for aid and so when celebrities do these kinds of things, it adds onto what is already there and the aid is continuous. Sha, Uti you try, jare…and this one party, I agree sey you suppose dey, all dem other ones abeg sometimes say NO. LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo just pulling the bobo’s legs o, Bellanaija Post KGB before una no post my comment.

  • Naveah August 9, 2012 at 8:52 pm

The guy in red plaid and black print t-shirt – you are KILLIN’ ME, son! WTH? same thing goes to the big chick in camoflage pants, did you get your tshirt when you got to the party? Because I refuse to think you actually knew what color the tshirt was and CHOSE these pants, you can’t have!

And home girl trying hard to strike a pose with a black dress, red shoes and WHITE stockings, may the style gods descend upon you, get rid of those friends that let you leave the house in that get up and put your wardrobe in order. WHITE STOCKINGS…hell STOCKINGS IN NIGERIA? Really? Seriously? WOWwwwww. No words to describe that combo.

  • Brandigest August 9, 2012 at 9:16 pm

Uti has set a pace for other celebrities. He just had me awestruck. HBD Uti. Pls let’s spread love around, and give to those whose lives have lost halo. ‘keep branding’. http://www.brandigest.wordpress.com

  • AB August 9, 2012 at 9:35 pm

    Happy birthday Uti.

What Uti did for these widows is noble. More Nigerians should give to charity or help the poor in their midst if they can. However, I always wonder why widows in our dear country Nigeria look so miserable with hardship written all over their faces. I say this because our people obsess and make so much noise about marraige making it seem as if getting married will solve all their problems in lives. At the end of the day, the minute the man passes on, the man’s family forsake the woman and the kids to their fate. Nigerian society is also hostile to women generally speaking and hostile to widows. Anyways, I thank God I don’t live in such a society. We have widows here in america but they don’t look haggard like Nigerian widows. This is because here in america, there are laws to protect women and services in place to assist them unlike our patriach, chuvinist society Nigeria.

  • Emem August 9, 2012 at 10:19 pm

    beautiful! God bless you Uti

  • Jane August 9, 2012 at 10:19 pm

It is very nice of Uti to give to the community. God bless him and the rest of the sponsors.

Now, what kind of blouse is KCee wearing? Susan P’s hair looks very good. The kind of weave that I like. Why would That girl go out with her visible camel toe? Omoni needs to quit wearing those contacts.
Uti and his friends don’t know how to dress for events..Maybe its just me but I would expect someone to wear something a little casual when doing charity work. Their outfits are always too tight and office like. Alex is actually not badly dressed but I’m
starting to think this is his newly found idea of dressing up. I think Uti tries a little bit too hard.
Damilola is a very pretty girl but her hair is not pretty at all.

Why didn’t Nkiru attend the first event? she would have been crying there.

I hope others in Nigeria that claim to be celebrities would take a cue from this act and benefit the less priviledged in our society through charitable acts. Uti u really rock!!!

  • ***Lush August 10, 2012 at 10:40 am

The best part of this event was that someone remembered to bring in guys to carry the widows’ gifts for them! That is a detail so many people would have forgotten, which shows that the event planner knows their stuff :)

God bless you, Uti, as you begin this new decade. May it all be well with you. (And may God bless me with a man with such a heart IJN! Amen!)

  • eyeballs August 10, 2012 at 10:44 am

  • Omo August 10, 2012 at 11:03 am

Most of the attendees gracing the after party..why weren’t they present at the celebration with the widows?? Was it that they were not invited or they just could not see themselves celebrating with some old widows?? well let me not judge sha cos I don’t know for sure..but what I do know for sure right now is that Uti just won my heart with this gesture..may God reward you Uti..and I am sure all the prayers from these delighted widows will not go unnoticed

  • Camron August 10, 2012 at 11:10 am

Hapi BDAY UTIIIIIIII. Nice and colourful occassion. God bless u and may u not limit your charity only to Nigeria. its true that charity should not be publicised, thats between you and God. What about TB Joshua?????? isnt he doing same in his church with cameras everywhere to the extend of filming those he sends abroad for scholarship. i beg leave UTI. even if widows were not invited, the ocassion would have still been televised so paparazi is part of stardom.

  • IGBOFILLE August 10, 2012 at 11:11 am

  • onut August 10, 2012 at 6:25 pm

Uti you did good, very nice. Next time though, please prohibit naked people from showing up at your parties, thanks.

  • kiki August 10, 2012 at 7:01 pm

good one uti many more blissful years @ thelma dont hate on moigal its her opinion if you read the bible you would see were JESUS said when you give do not let your right hand know he spoke against making giving public.so if someone wants to give privately its their belief you calling her stingy is so off point and saying you give to charity comes off to someone as bragging oh i have done my bit.you dont know what she does, and finally you dont need to see people give before you give.thats the point JESUS was making it should come from your heart willingly.there are people who give but would rather you dont mention them so dont criticise people or think you are better because you give its private for some people.am not going to criticise uti its not my place iam happy he did this.giving should be part of us.

  • naijababe August 10, 2012 at 7:22 pm

Good job, Uti. I always knew you had a kind side to you. Thank you for putting smiles on all these women’s face. I love it, success is truly about giving. I’m heart broken, what’s that ring on your finger? Crying!!!!!

  • songhai August 10, 2012 at 11:51 pm

God bless you Uti.Your Mom and Dad (though deceased) must be very proud.Celebrities need to give back not in cash only but in kind for example Volunteering in Social program geared toward the Masses.Naija love you so much.

  • feelitx August 11, 2012 at 10:21 am

HBD Uti.We must REPLENISH THE EARTH. We must encourage as many people to do things for COMMON GOOD. This is a great step and we hope this will lay the foundation for more Nigerians to be involved in CHARITABLE WORKS. We can do a lot more if we all chip in because there is so miuch POVERTY around us.

Uti a thousand fold is your portion.

  • Ondbit_Baba August 11, 2012 at 12:22 pm

UTI , you are the best . You have proved it . Very inspiring for the youths .

  • Olayide Shonubi August 11, 2012 at 2:48 pm

Dear Utti ,I am indeed inspired by what you have done, not even the richest in Nigeria have done this.I am a teacher and I run a non profit for needy children in Nigeria,in the cause of giving out to help ,I met five kids with serious eye problems that may be blind if nothing is done urgently,I am seeking for help for this children through bellanaija. One of them a ten year old has bee referred from LUTH to Eye Foundation on Isaac John Ikeja, master Joshua Akintoye is almost getting blind,I need donors ,they could pay directly to the hospital and not to our organization,The Children’s Right Advocate Foundation. He needs 280,000 naira for the operation.I wish 280 ,Nigerians can contribute 10000 naira each so that this child of a helpless widow will not be blind.God Bless bellanaija.God Bless you all.

    • feelitx August 13, 2012 at 5:13 am

I do not think it should be hard for us to raise the money here. We just need you to coordinate this better.

  • Olayide Shonubi August 11, 2012 at 3:09 pm

Happy birthday Utti, thanks for what you have done for the 67 widows.I had sent something earlier bellanaija tha was not published why?.

  • sexygal August 11, 2012 at 11:36 pm

    @ Olayide Shonubi

Thank you for your charity work. Eye foundation is the name of the hospital? Who do we pay to in the hospital? Give us more information to work with, and how those abroad can also get involved.

  • tomi August 12, 2012 at 10:23 pm

Happy birthday uti. u do well to do this for the widows. So many friends came to support you. so you are only 3o years old and have acomplished numerous things. great work. where was Tonto Dikeh? i can only see Geraldine from Big brother, where are the other nigerian big brother participants? Karen Kevin Vina, Goldie and co? they should have been also there to support you. i see the tinsel stars Helen from jara and host of others. keep helping the less privileged and God will continue to fill your pockets.

  • Ginika August 16, 2012 at 10:00 am

I love, love, love what Uti did…
However, I don’t love Uti that much but I definitely don’t hate him. Now, if every single ‘celebreity’ did something like this, Nigeria would be a much better place.

  • Debbie August 28, 2012 at 10:45 am

Why are some people acting like Uti (although it was nice of him to celebrate his birthday with the widows) was the first celeb to do something like this. From what I know Omotola is the 1st. Plus she did nt only give food- which will last for a couple of mths and thats it. She gave them a makeover – to sum ppl its just physical apperance but to this women it was more than that,it shows dem that they are loved and it gave them confidence to go out and look for a deserving future for themselves and their kids. I think Uti does not fully understand what this women are feeling because its nt all about food. That’s were I think Omotola got it. She understands that after the food is finished what next? shes seen her mother suffered so she understands that dis women need more than food. Look for the article about the makeover on Bellanaija and see the genuine smile on the women faces.

  • Bosy August 30, 2012 at 3:37 pm
