Calabar Cuisine Comes to Badagry? Watch the Battabox Video of the Preparation of Canine Delicacies

I love dogs! I have two German Shepherds who yelp and bark immediately I pull into the driveway every evening.

So when I found this Battabox video, I went through all shades of emotions. We’ve heard that in some places in Cross River and Ondo States, dogs are a delicacy – commonly called “404“. Well, what I didn’t know prior to watching this video was that dogs are a special delicacy in Badagry, Lagos as well.

As we watched this video in the office, we shared tales of the most “exotic” things we’d eaten; crocodile, snakes and squids! So who determines what is edible and what is actually inedible… I mean, it’s all about the taste bud threshold, isn’t it?

Check out this video and share your thoughts!

While i will never eat dog meat, i feel like it pretty much in the same boat as eating cow, goat, rabbit, pig etc! They are all animals that go through pain!

Every man to his own abeg, this my other friend from Ivory Coast told me that they eat CATS in hid tribe, so no one has any right to say what should and what shouldn’t be eaten.

Atoke, it is not taste bud threshold but yuck threshold. Or better still OMG threshold. I cant eat snakes, crocodiles, sharks and co. I love squid. You cant get in between me and my calamari. Dogs are pet, but these dogs are obviously not pets. So, meat is meat. Unless you are a vegetarian you really cannot object to dogs being killed for food.

Dogs are exceptional. The way my dog ‘willow’ jumps and wags her tail when she sees me, i cant just imagine her being killed :-( . Heck, she even sees me off to work every morning.

404 things… Eww… I remember a while back I was going to FUTA Akure for an exam, my bus stopped for us to eat around owo.. LMAO I actually asked “I hope its not dog, just give me goat meat please”… Its so sad really they are a lot of tribes in Nigeria that eat dog aside Efik(Calabar people).. Mangu of Plateau state, Tiv, S.Kaduna (I think the Kaje pple), Gbagyi (Abuja/FCT indegenes) and d usual suspects Ondo/Calabars.. PersonaIly, if its not goat, sheep, cow, and popular fish, some bushmeat, I will pass abeg but I guess one man’s meat (ALL PUN INTENDED) is another man’s taboo.. :(

I think someone should send this video to American Animal Activist groups to whine them up. The cover of the letter should be the cute puppies. They will probably commit suicide hahahhahahhah

Unless you are vegan, MEAT IS MEAT. Yes, that includes yall that call yourselves pescetarians! An animal is an animal!

  • chloe June 5, 2013 at 7:35 pm

Meat is not meat. carnivores are never seen as food to be produced on a scale such as herbivores with cloven hoof. Dogs are pets… and those people are disgusting, cruel.. bush apes!

  • ViVi June 5, 2013 at 10:36 pm

  • Vegan Nigerian June 14, 2013 at 8:25 am

Probably reason #25 why I went vegan. Aside from the health aspects which take top priority, it was the realisation that the slab of steak on my plate could well also be a dog. Couldn’t see the difference between that and cows/pigs etc
I couldn’t bring myself to watch the video, but this is straight up animal cruelty
