Cultural Intimacy Explored: David Tlale Spring/Summer 2010 @ ARISE Promise
South Africa’s David Tlale dubbed his collection ‘Cultural Intimacy’ and on the ARISE Promise of Africa Collective runway, we could see why. The palette for the collection was rich earthy colours and neutrals – these were an excellent base for the classic collection as it allowed the audience to focus on the marvelous cuts and unexpected mix of embellishments – there were tassles, there were Edwardian ruffles and then there were sequins. There was just something about this collection that was temptingly sophisticated yet naughty. Our favourite piece was an all-black outfit with comprised of a top with a high Edwardian collar, jacket and unique fringe embellished cigarette pants – we can just imagine fashion it-girl of the moment Rihanna rockin’ this. A perfectly polished collection from a budding design star.
