Team Aspire Emerges Winner of the In’Genius Youth Project Competition & Wins N 2.5 Million – Photos & Scoop from the Event

On Friday 13th July 2012,  In’Genius – the Nigerian global youth organisation promoting innovation and creativity among youths recently gathered the creme de la creme of the society from both the private and public sector including top chief executive officers and top Government functionaries at a Gala Night event held at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, to showcase the top 10 ideas developed by Nigerian youths in the In’Genius Youth Project Competition.

The gala night was also organised to create opportunities for the youths to present innovative ideas created by them as solutions to 6 major sectors of the economy which include Transportation, Tourism, Taxation, ICT, Agriculture and Power. This is to create an enabling environment for investors to tap into these ideas and translate them into tangible business ventures while also developing the nation.

Speaking at the event, Oreoluwa Ogundipe (In’Genius Project Head), described the gala night event as a melting pot and connecting platform to merge Nigerian youth with innovative ideas with investors that can provide the much needed funding to translate the ideas into workable solutions and business ventures. He noted that the In’Genius Project Competition is organised to tap into the brain power of the youth by tasking them to evolve innovative ideas to serve as catalyst and solutions to 6 major sectors of the economy. He further said “The vision for In’Genius is to bridge the wide technological gap between developing nations and developed ones by deploying strategies that will serve as a melting pot for youth with innovative ideas and the right investors with the needed funds to translate the ideas into tangible solutions. This event is meant to first of all to reward the adjudged viability and ingenuity of the concepts of the winners and also offer them an opportunity for these ideas to be presented to the interested investors among the top CEO’s and Government functionaries for them to buy into these ideas and make strategic investments.”

Also speaking at the gala night event, the special adviser to Governor Mimiko of Ondo State on Oil and Gas, Goke Adeniyi, commended In’Genius for this noble initiative which he says will rekindle the hopes of the Nigerian youths to be more productive and redirect their energies towards finding solutions to the problems confronting the nation.

He assured the group that Ondo State Government will be willing to support this initiative as part of youth empowerment strategy which is a very key focus of the state government, he also called on other states government as well as corporate organisations to support In’Genius by investing in the ideas.

Team Aspire – inventors of one of the top 10 ideas in the In’Genius Project Competition Version 1.0 with focus on Information Communication Technology (ICT) emerged the winner of the maiden edition of In’Genius Project Competition at the grand finale which was held earlier on Tuesday 10th July 2012 at the Main Auditorium of the University of Lagos, Akoka.

Team Aspire comprises of three members – Ibrahim Durosimi, Alex Iyaji and Dapo Shosayo with their educational based E-connect Playbook and Web Platform was adjudged by the panel of judges after presentation and evaluation of all the top 10 Ideas. Team Funab became the second up with innovative project focusing on transportation with the theme Diamagnetic Levitation of Vehicles while Team Diamond came third focusing on Tourism. They won N 2.5 Million, N 1.5 Million and N 750,000 respectively.
