Abuja (NAN) – President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday directed the immediate removal of the “#BringBackJonathan 2015” signs and banners around Abuja.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, said in a statement in Abuja that the signs were offensive and repugnant to Jonathan and many Nigerians.

The statement said: “Jonathan wholly shares the widely expressed view that the signs, which were put up without his knowledge or approval, are a highly insensitive parody of the #BringBackOurGirls hash tag.

“Jonathan appreciates the enthusiastic show of support for his administration by a broad range of stakeholders.

“But he condemns the #BringBackJonathan2015 signs which appear to make light of the very serious national and global concern for the abducted Chibok girls.

“The president assures all Nigerians and the international community that his administration remained fully engaged with efforts to rescue the abducted girls.

“He will not knowingly promote any actions that will fly in the face of the seriousness of their plight and the anguish of their families.”

It took the Washington Post to make the presidency come to its senses. Just like it took the Western world for the same government to realise that schoolgirls had been abducted from Chibok. This government just continues to embarass itself! This is what happens when a government has no moral compass or backbone.

Thank you. This lack of gumption on Jonathan’s part makes me wonder how he got is PhD? Or do they prevent him from reading the dailes, or can he even surf the web-is there any curiosity on his part as to what is really going on in his country? How can a human being in this modern age, a leader be just this daft and this bad? They say someone is a BH sponsor (okay even if he is only perceived as a BH sponsor) any leader in the world will immediately distant himself from him. Nooooo, not Jonathan; it is then
Jonathan took sherif on a trip with him and boldly had a photo opportunity with him. It is time to ask the important question- Has President Jonathan Gone Mad?

So they put up such big banners without any authorization? Nobody in his camp knew about it beforehand? Why is it only when the media causes an uproar that they suddenly realize things are “offensive and repugnant”?

Awon Ode- the leader ode, the people around him and his handlers ode. All a bunch of insensitive, incompetent fools. Rubbished by greed and power. Nothing significant has happened in the past 5 years. The nations has become the joke of the world every potential it had has been squandered by a handful of people whose only interest is accumulating money that will run their children and children’s mad. It is just a shame that he will be reelected again, only because Nigerians are too complacent. Shame on the masses.

What is the result of the PR consultation? Should they not have caught this faux pas? Why does this have reno omokri’s hand work written all over it? So I read…

how much is a soul these days??! how can these women do this? ONLY in Nigeria can this happen. why cant we be so angry as to fight all of this? its a pity we’ve learned to live without a government. so whether we have morons or monkeys ruling us it wouldnt make a difference to us. we’ll just buy our generators, dig our boreholes, buy our jeeps so we dont feel potholes, patronise private schools and hospitals… life goes on!

as in.. the same women clamoring and ‘forming’ the #bring back our girls protests are the ones helping to promote such a ‘campaign’.. so sad.. we need God’s help and we need to stand up for what is right!

It does NOT matter why he is doing it. Bottom line is that it’s the RIGHT thing to do!

Many people have been criticized for doing things and continue to do same – in fact, dug in because of such criticism. The same Washington Post, France 24 and even US State Dept ridiculed and criticized Abacha and it made no difference. It is never too late to admit mistakes, retrace one’s wrong steps and do the right. In fact, it takes a really strong dude to do just that – and only Nigerians with our often misguided ego and pride think that such actions is a ‘weakness’. KUDOS to Mr. Jonathan for recognizing (even if belatedly) his missteps and righting it!!
