I am really so happy for him. He played his cards well and he won. This goes out to every ordinary folk out there, you can win. Politics is dirty but it is not so dirty as it used to be. For that person saying he was giving out money, if you don’t give, how do you think you can win in Nigeria? Words??? Mere words???? Dey there and be looking for utopia or eldorado in Nigeria. Nigeria is not USA and definitely not Europe. To win, you have to spend a lot of money and even dole out cash. What I am even saying, in the USA, it is the same thing and that is why they raise a lot of money from corporations and individual donors.

Once again, Desmond well done. I will personally vote for you . No worries. Little by little, all the old names we have been hearing in Politics will be eroded. Even my BF is convinced now that he can win which was almost unthinkable some years back.

I just wanted to point out that even in the US, people’s votes are bought. I know my aunt had someone offer her a full tank of gas in exchange for her vote.
For some other poor people down south, it’s the promise of groceries and food. So, yup…in every country, money exchange is the language of the poor and detached when it comes to elections.

Don’t know Desmond and never met him, but I hope he wins. Why? Because this will be a good test case for a young person who has made a name and money to be comfortable in another walk of life to show us that we should have hope. I will give him the benefit of doubt. As to him giving touts money…..the question is: was he giving them to vote at the APC primary? Are the touts members of APC? Did they ask him for money as people are wont to do with a celebrity like him. There are certain things that politicians are being forced to do to draw attention to themselves that are not savory but sometimes you have to stoop to conquer.

Weird thing is when I first got into Naija movies, I recall him being Desmond Olusola Elliot when the starting credits roll. He must have dropped the Olusola some years ago and for obvious reasons resurrected it.

But yeah, I’ve known his middle name was Olusola from way back when Baba Obasanjo was in power.

I wish him the best and hope to heck that he’s looking to make a difference and not to “chop national cake”.

Desmond Eliot is an original Lagosian. His father is from Olowogbowo in Lagos Island. His mum is Igbo.

@Aby; Desmond has an Akwa ibom mother and a father from Lagos. That’s how ‘Olusola’ came.

I’m glad Desmond Elliot won. How he won is not the issue, but what he does with the position is more important. we look forward to good this. Sad for D1 though. he is a very intelligent and vocal man. really wish he had won.
