One of Hollywood’s biggest stars Charlie Sheen is set to make a “revealing personal announcement” on the Today Show with Matt Lauer tomorrow morning.

For the past 2 weeks, there has been heavy speculation that a Hollywood superstar actor is HIV Positive. According to several news outlets, Charlie Sheen is the actor in question.

HIV is not a death sentence and with proper nutrition and medication, HIV Positive people can live normal healthy lives. If Charlie makes that revelation tomorrow, we hope it helps to further destigmatize the HIV.

It has been long coming from his days of patronising Heidi Fleiss. He gets an A* for debauchery. Condoms are damn cheap. Luckily, he has shedloads of money to afford his AZT. Good luck. I hope all the men, women, transvestites, trans-men and trans-women he’s slept with will get tested too.

Yes, u are right. Thanks to God for his $$$$ after all, Magic Johnson is still kicking and living with HIV & he sure ain’t going nowhere yet..

@ATL’s finest. HIV is not an infection of the rich. So many poor people are infected with it and are living healthy and meaningful life with care. Nigeria has the second highest rate of people living with HIV in the world and I hope you do not think this population of people are either dying or without care because they’re not rich.

Way to assume that he got it through his sexual escapades, as if that is the only way to contact HIV. He was a drug user, and he might have also gotten it from using unsterile needles for drugs.

naijachic – just as well that you are assuming that as a drug user he’s used needles. He could be sniffing and freebasing instead of using needles. As an unhinged drug user who is rumoured to have slept with 5000 women (just women and not the other sexes) I am sure he will isolate it to one of his vices.

In as much as HIV is not a death sentence, it’s important an infected person informs whoever he or she decides to have sex or a relationship with or better still, use protection so u don’t infect or spread the disease. Charlie Sheen did the opposite and that is why his is news. You guys just wait as this news unfolds to find out how much people he infected and silenced with cash according to the media outlet. He even infected a top Hollywood guy he had sex with! Imagine that! Still following the gist closely though. My condolences to those innocently affected. Condom or abstinence has never had a louder voice!

Yesss oooo. News also has it that since he contracted the virus he’s slept with 200 women with and without protection. With the way I see things unfold, Charlie will turn out bankrupt after paying for lawsuits & in the end may commit suicide.

@Olofofo, though you might mean well, I’m sure nobody living with HIV would appreciate your condolences because they’re not dying. Everyone is a victim of the virus, including those living with it.

I’m sure you wouldn’t express your condolences to someone living with cancer. People living with HIV deserve better treatment and respect from you. They’re survivors.

And I’m sure you need to go back and read my comment again. My condolences are to those who may have gotten the virus innocently or unknowingly from Charlie not the entire HIV+ populace in the world. Please stop thinking for me and jumping to conclusion on my comment. My comment was never meant to stigmatize any HIV patient.

The problem with this announcement is that, most people feel he knew he had the disease a long time ago, and still continued to sleep with other people without protecttion. It is rumoured that some women he dealt with in the past want to sue him. I guess that’s why he’s decided to come out. Most akatas don’t even use protection, na wah!

Kai. This thing pain me sha. I really like this guy even with all his craziness. Well, his money should keep him around long enough till the cure for HIV/AIDS, which does not seem to be too far away now, is found. But that is if the sharks don’t sue him to bankruptcy.

There is no cure for HIV. Drugs can only make the virus undetectable in your blood if you strictly take your drugs, but does not mean you are not still HIV+ or can’t still spread the virus. Undetectable simply means the viral load is undetectable for the time being. You all really need to know more about HIV. And even while a patient is positive, he can still marry someone without HIV and have negative child. Every thing just depends on how strictly he uses his drugs and keeps regular follow up with his Dr.

Dear Bella, pls note that the HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY SYNDROME [HIV] is a VIRUS and not a DISEASE. HIV is a virus that if left untreated progresses to AIDS.

AIDS is also not a disease in itself, it’s an Acquire Immune Deficiency SYNDROME. Read all the individual acronyms in AIDS repeatedly. AIDS is a syndrome (a group of symptoms) of infections that affect the body when the immune system is very low, due to untreated HIV infection [virus].

Furthermore, HIV is acquired in various ways that’s not limited to unprotected sexual intercourse. Other means include unscreened blood transfusion, infected and unsterilized sharp objects, mother to child transmission and breastfeeding.

This classification is necessarily in order that we may not misinform people on HIV and also to eradicate stigma and discrimination faced by people affected and/or infected with the virus. #endstigma

Chances of spreading the virus when it’s undetectable is low however, but still, those are just chances so it’s safer to still use protection and continue your meds even when it’s undetectable.

Sha thank you for this your comment, in 2015, we still have ill and mis-informed persons on this issue! Ignorance is not bliss! The thing I have seen with Hollywood is that everybody dates in the same pool, so at some point if people are not using protection, there will be problem, but that is clearly not the case, as we have haven’t read of any ill fated deaths due to the virus. Protection is key, and failure to that, consistency in your meds and care of your health is also key, lucky for them the money is the means and they never have to been in government failing hospitals, with all sorts of lack of care, even fresh water! HIV is no longer a life threatening virus if you care for it well. You can and will live a long life!
