Woman Allegedly Beheaded for “Blasphemy” Against Prophet Muhammad in Kano | Twitter NG React

There are reports making the rounds on Twitter about a woman, Bridget Patience Agbaheme allegedly murdered for “blasphemy” against Prophet Muhammad.

According to Sahara Reporters,

Angry Muslims youths in Kano on Thursday evening decapitated a woman trader over allegations that she blasphemed Prophet Muhammad.

The victim, who was said to be of Igbo extraction was accused of blasphemy during a religious argument at Wambai market.

The woman, who sells plastics at the local market was in the company of her husband when she was murdered.

The report also said that the Public Relations Officer of the Kano Police Command, DSP Musa Magaji, confirmed the incident, saying: ”At about 4 30 pm, there was a disagreement between the murdered woman and some traders bordering on religion. The woman was said to have blasphemed Prophet Mohammed, which did not go down well with the mob”.

Magaji said that the woman was in the company of her husband when the incident happened but the timely intervention of the police saved the husband, who was immediately whisked for safety.

Nigerians on twitter have condemned the act. See tweets below:

This recklessness is too much. Our people should come back home. Any northerner who likes can stay in the south/East/West. We are more tolerant. After the progrom l find it difficult to understand why any Igbo person will go live in the North. There is no “one Nigeria” in reality only on paper. From intolerance, forceful abduction/conversion to outright disdain. Enough!

I won’t lie. Business is great in the North and there is good money to be made. Pre-BH, there were southerners as far as Maiduguri who were doing very well. – coming home only @ Christmas. I haven’t seen one Igbo person who went to the North to trade who didn’t turn good profit – much more than would have been made in the South

      June 4, 2016 at 8:55 am

@Mr. Egghead, what great business exactly? And you actually submitted that one can make more profit in the North than they would in the South. Having lived in both regions, I disagree with you. You sound like you’ve never been to Onitsha, Aba or Nnewi. Lagos is also in the South, remember?
No amount of money is worth your life. When you’re in environment where you’re always walking on eggshells. When you’re likely to be killed at no provocation.
Amidst the violence in S.A, Igbos/Christians are much safer over there than they will ever be in many parts of Northern Nigeria. And it’s supposed to be there country.
Chadians and Nigeriens are lot safer in most of Northern Nigeria than an Igbo/Christian who has lived there all his life.
Some Igbos behave as if they are cursed to travel out from the East. Otherwise, why would someone always go to a place where they are always in danger of being slaughtered for being who they are? Where the authorities will either sanction the mayhem or just let it pass when it happens. And it always happens.
People should not be so alarmed about this woman*s story as though it’s rare one-off. On the contrary it’s norm. Lots of the stories don’t make it to the media.
Few days ago I had a chat with a friend who escaped from Maiduguri in just her nighties during the failed beauty pageant ‘protest’. She said she couldn’t count the dead bodies she saw. But all we heard was that there were protests. I can write a book on firsthand accounts I’ve gotten from people who have lost loved ones, property of life savings over this Igbos/Christians being killed in the North.
One question we should ask ourselves is: Is it possible that someday all the monsters will repent, see Igbos as non-infidels and stop the senseless killings? Could this happen in this Nigeria where the wickedness is often condoned by officials of the Republic?
In answering the question one should consider the fact that this has been going on for over fifty years. For over fifty years it keeps getting worse.
Again, no money or business is worth your life. If you’re reading this, you’re Igbo and living in those Islamic, volatile regions, please depart. Forget the investments. Leave! Now!

The funny thing is that d mohammed sef is not worth beheading someone for. He wasn’t a perfect man, wen he was dying he asked pple to pray for him cos he doesn’t know where he is going to, dats y dey write SAW at d back of his name.
Y ff a leader dat encouraged violence, dat doesn’t keep his word, wenever he commits sin he says Allah spoke to him and justify himself, he encouraged child marriage he was an adulterer, never satisfied.
They keep saying religion of peace but yet its in the quran dat they should kill, convert or subjugate christian and jews( Qur’an 9:29), he tells them mercy towards fellow muslim and ruthlessness towards non-muslim (qur’an 48:29)
I wonder how a normal thimking person is a muslim, forget religion of peace dat religion is devilish. Read meditations of a muslim student for more insight
I pray her soul rests in peace. D biggest mistake a Christian can make is to argue with a muslim especially in a place like kano

For a lady to be murdered in broad day light, no arrests, no condonation from the governor, emir, president, representatives is just crazy. Forget all the forming we dey do for island and all the tush places for Nigeria. This country is a jungle, a zoo, a cesspit of disgusting filth. Can’t sleep again tonight. Nna mehn!!

This dangerous flame of Wahhabism that has engulfed Kano and other parts of Northern Nigeria is part of the reason why ‘One Nigeria’ is a myth. They have become i-don’t-know-what who draw blood at the drop of a pencil. What chance did she have being a triple minority – woman, christian and igbo.
The fact that Northern leaders allow it to perpetuate because of political gain simply shows that ‘tolerance’ and ‘diversity’ are not values that are equally shared all parts of Nigeria.
Those who were part of the skirmishes in Lagos have been bailed out of jail by Kwankwaso and given money to start afresh

I truly weep for the family of this woman, not because of the gruesome way she died, but because she will be forgotten, Nothing will happen. Gideon Akaluka has been consigned to the dustbin of history. I can’t even remember the name of the Yoruba teacher who was lynched by her students in Kano. Nobody will be arraigned or tried. I swear, Ganduje will say nothing. Buhari will barely blink before jetting off to wherever his heart desires and SLS will say something intellectual and vague
We’ll all sneeze and move on to the next one.

Anyway, my hope lies in Lake Chad. FG has committed 40 billion for exploration this year. Nigeria is held together by the thread of Niger-Delta oil.
When each region has its pot of black gold, the men who move the wheels of Nigeria will start the process for our disengagement

It is tragic this woman was killed and i hope those that did this would be brought to book. Two things. First Islam is a religion of peace and this action by a few rogue fanatics shouldnt be seen as a general representation of muslims. Secondly, there is a huge misconception of the Prophet Muhammed among few muslims. Prophet Muhammed refused his pictures for example to be produced or idolized during his life time as he wanted his followers to focus only on Allah and not any image of him to avoid idolatory. Its the way we have people worshipping their pastors and saying the God of so so pastor; thats what the Prophet Muhammed was trying to avoid but some muslims miss this point and see any word against Muhammed as a word against Allah which is not what the prophet preached. This also happens in christianity albeit in a less violent way. You can say whatever you like about God and some people wont do a thing, but if you dare mention their pastor as controversial or a scam, they suddenly turn to defenders of the universe. P.S. This opinion is formed from a documentary i watched as i am actually a christian .

Even the NDA in its madness have sworn not to spill blood!
These killings have been for too long. But again no dust will be raised because our forces are reading body language.
Is this different herdsmen menace or shooting of unarmed IPOB? Did you hear a word of rebuke from FG?

Anyways, defending myself is pointless. The documentary i referred to that fed my knowledge is called “The life of The last Prophet Muhammad PBUH ” and it aired on BBC. @bitumen, you are a liar: you are never a Christian.

Secondly, “a FEW rogue fanatics””? In Nigeria, FEW? All over the world, FEW? Really? If they are so FEW, if they are such a minority, if these beliefs they hold and act on truly are so contrary and in opposition to mainstream islam, why have never the muslims in the majority, the MANY muslims ever truly actively risen up against them?
And, “”there is a huge misconception of the Prophet Muhammed among FEW muslims.”” A FEW? That is, if it is even a “”misconception””?
I am so angry that I have to stop here because I cannot, as a CHRISTIAN, risk continuing and typing what my flesh wants to say to you and all your like, to those who murdered Bridget, to those in government and in power who support such acts in secret and in public say and do nothing or simply merely mouth the ‘right’ things. Sometimes, such things make it difficult for me to even look at my muslim friends. Sometimes, I wish I were GOD. I wish I could just zap a whole lot of bad people and all evil out of existence and all memory forever, and that I could reverse all their acts and effects in a nanosecond, faster than thought..

I don’t want to take away from the severity and tragedy of this issue, but please let’s not make it an Igbo-vs-Nigeria thing. Some years ago, a female Yoruba Christian teacher was killed by her students from the same region on equally vague religious grounds. This was religiously inspired, and not ethnic. What I expect is level-headed elite Muslims to come out in one voice and condemn this act, if they believe this is in variance to their claim to be a religion of peace. They should also put pressure on their representatives to push for legislation that will outlaw extrajudicial killings in the name of Islam.

    • Naijatalk

      June 4, 2016 at 4:30 pm

That case of the Yoruba teacher was cited above by Mr. Egg head. No one is making it an Igbo vs. Nigeria thing. SAD that that is all you could rationally make of this. They are simply calling on Igbos to leave the North simply because there is a history of devastating, glaring Igbo pogroms in the north. The Yorubas have no such history – killing of Yorubas in millions in the North? You are welcome to correct me if I am wrong. So pardon our overt sentiments on this matter.
There is certainly an undeniable tribal and religious angle.

This seems like the new excuse to start killing christians in particular easterners in the north, first of it was anti western education and because of that Christians must be killed… then it became effects of global warming making grass unavailable for cattle to graze on in the north and therefore middle belterns and southerners should be killed and dispossessed of their ancestral lands. When IPOB and NDA say they want out of this devilish union called Nigeria some folks from the other region say they are wailers. How can you behead a person on account of your religion being “blasphemed” in this 21st century. I can remember while I was growing up in Port Harcourt town, there was an incident where an aboki was caught selling cubes of sugar with the HOLY BIBLE, and it was not the first person he had sold stuff to using the Bible as a wrapper cos a lot of his customers came to testify that they were appalled when the got home to discover that the stuff they bought from his kiosk was wrapped with pages from the Holy Bible. The angry street boys did not Kill him, they just ruffled him up a bit, commanded him to ask for God’s forgiveness and gave him a stern warning never to repeat that again. As much as i can remember untill i moved out of that environment, that aboki continued doing his business without any molestation or harassments. If this scenario i just narrated played out in the North you can imagine the amount of lives that would have been lost.

I don’t mean to be disrespectful but how much longer can we continue to say Islam is a religion of peace. Why can’t we accept that are numbers of things wrong with Islam. This does not mean Christianity, judaism are perfect, but the continues negative effects Islam has around the world is problematic. By continuing to call this religion peaceful, is simply disrespectful and just laughable. (P.s. no need to mention not all Muslims are like this, we are aware of this but they all unfortunately share the same religion)

I am a christian by the way. The point of this statement, was to disconnect the relationship between education and actions of these people. I brought up saudi because in islam, you cannot separate religion and state (as in a country or a defined land). This is why the sharia law is based on the Quran (revelation from Allah) and the Hadith (Actions and Sayings of Mohammed). Now Nigeria is not an islam nation, (at least not yet) but there are muslims who hold to this truth. They regard the sharia law as their highest legal authority not the constitution. The real issue is the non muslims are ignorant of islam that they fail to understand the actions of these people.

Oh you do not realize it is because of the Southerners and missionary christians who fled for their lives (and have been fleeing since 19kiridim) that light was thrown into the darkness and cesspool that is the Islamic North. How dare you accuse us now of selfishness. Our children come to the North for NYSC and are murdered? How dare dare you utter such nonsense comparing us to the perpetrators of these heinous crimes? How many Southern pastors have been murdered with their families because they came to spread the gospel? How many of your Northern Christian leaders have come to publicly condemn marginalization going on elsewhere in the country by your Northern muslim brothers. Have you all lent your voice to the plight of the Niger Delta? Have you all lent your voice to the marginalization of South southerners and South easterners?

This is a spate in the north since I grew up to know the difference between my left and right, they have been doing it and no one has been held accountable or prosecuted. Thank God for social media at least the remaining part of the country is becoming aware of the reality faced by non moslems in the north

People making it seem like a ‘hausa vs igbo’ thing.
See someone up there referring to a continuation of the civil war against igbos. Anyone who has lived with Muslims knows they are very hostile when it comes to their religion. They are so fanatical & quick to kill any who challenges their beliefs. For those crying injustice against southerners, do you know how many northern christian lives have been wasted by these people? I’m from plateau state & this has been the root cause of clashes BTW Christians & Muslims in this region. So please, this is pure religious fanatical characteristics and extremism. Let’s not make it worse than it already is by adding tribalistic sentiments to the situation.

So true. Some Nigerians act like animals and we have a failed Government who can’t do a thing about it. We just dey pose for nothing abroad . The racist comments by whites sometimes are really justified. Bunch of ruthless monkeys!

See wahala? When they kill in jos you protest too now. When it’s a plateau woman that’s killed, make it about the Fulan and Jos people too. Haba @ Maui. Let the north just stay on their own because there ways aren’t our ways. They don’t call life anything. They kill for strange things ranging from their holy book to common cattle.

Let’s be sincere. Just like Elijah in the Bible who asked the Israelites to chose who they will serve. Nigerians need to be asked this. If you are a Moslem, be sincere, is this action right.
Where did bokoharam, Isis, Fulani herds men and this recent Kano murder come from? All from Islam.
How many Christian kill for religion?
So, who is really serving God now?

You ll never hear any Muslim condemning these acts of violence commited because of their religion. Never ever. Smh. It’s like they support it, like they some how encourage it or else why wouldn’t they speak against it? My maid said it was the woman’s fault…..that hopeless statement upset me for hours and she is supposedly a Christian. I promised her that I lol make her finish school even if she doesn’t want to. Only education can purge out a lot of her barbaric n crude ideaology.

    For the logical ones.
This is really annoying! And it is fuelling the flame of indignation amongst Nigerians. Anyway, I really see the dismal effects of the action of these people who decapitated the woman. However, I would rather let you all, those who are critical of Islam, know that Islam advocates peaceful environment and relationship, esp. @ID and Co. Why? Some of those who commented said, introvertly, “Muslims are in support of this evil” , “it is not unislamical… It is permissible to do such a thing in islam”, and so on. Look at the nook and the crannies of this century and imagine the most vulnerable set of people in the modern world. I mean those who are rather susceptible to extrajudicail killing than the Muslims! For the mindful ones, though. You see, according to the Sharia as the Constitution, it’s a must for all Muslims to always make sure that “every of his neighbor is secured from his hostile actions” as stated by the prophet. Sb just texted these people are heartless and lethal such that they can do whatever that interest them. Why should you ascribe this to Islam . Look at the massive killing of Muslims in the fight between Palestinian and Israeli over the land own by the Palestinian, the Muslims who are the sole owner of the land the Christian, Israeli came and continue destroying these people. What would you say about this? The same thing is happening around the globe. That Islam is in support of this is an act of sacrilege. The bitter truth is that NO SINGLE RELIGION ADVOCATES KILLING. ISLAM and terrorism are not pertinent! Your comments are highly welcome.

    Sourced from NAIG NEWS
Abubakar stated this in a statement issued on Sunday in Kaduna on his behalf by the Secretary-General of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, Dr. Khalid Abubakar-Aliyu.
The JNI boss said, “With pains and sobriety Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) reacts to the most unfortunate alleged blasphemy that was reported to have happened in Wambai Area of Kano, Kano State and Pandogari, Rafi Local Government Council of Niger State.
“These ugly incidences utterly stand condemned and are regarded as criminal and unislamic, perpetrated by miscreants and criminals. If you are yet to be convinced that it is unislamical and still regard Islam as culprit. Then you commit sacrilege, advertently

I have read all the post but unfortunately I did not see a single person who reacted upon her act ” her utterance”. Did she do right?
