“He was obviously throwing a banter” – Garba Shehu Says About President Buhari’s Statement on his wife Belonging to His Kitchen

20161015_000008President Muhammadu Buhari‘s Senior Specia Assistant (Media and Publicity), Garba Shehu, has said that the president’s statement about his wife belong in his kitchen, the living room and ‘the other room’ was ‘a banter’, adding that he respects women and believe in the abilities of women.

Shehu said this via his Twitter handle:

My friends, can’t a leader get a sense humour anymore? Mr. President laughed before that statement was made.

He was obviously throwing a banter.

Mr. President respects the place of women in our society. He believes in the abilities of women.

Politics sometimes should be spiced with humour. Those of us around him know there is never a dull moment with him.

One of Nigeria’s most sensitive office today is headed by a woman, (Kemi) Adeosun. This is an evidence of the confidence he reposes on women.

The president’s wife, Aisha Buhari had, in an interview with BBC Hausa Service, said that the people in President Buhari’s administration never supported him to victory while those who supported him were being sidelined.

EEEYAH, poor Mr Shehu, his principal denied him even the “locker room talk” defense.

This was how I laughed when he bantered about “glamourous dresses”. Today GTB is telling me $1=N500, common FM I no fit buy again.

  2. Look in the mirror whenever you think (you're talking to, or that) Nigerians are fools.

“”Can’t a leader get a sense humour anymore?”

How about “”Can’t a leader get a sense of HONOUR anymore?”” And “”throw”” himself into the palace of his emir, the emir of his state, of his hometown, Katsina, and #free Habiba Isa?

“”Can’t a leader get that COMMON sense anymore?””

It’s amazing how the proverbial chickens always come home to roost for the wicked.

Goodluck Jonathan was serially lambasted and mocked for not controlling his wife(‘s utterances).

Buhari called Jonathan clueless (Mama Peace immediately retaliated and called Buhari “”brain-dead””) and it seemed to have stuck, no media house, no social media platform, no commentator anywhere, even foreign mews media seemingly ceaselessly joined the name of Goodluck Jonathan with the adjective clueless, almost by default or reflex action. It was not long before in the exact same arenas and fora, the same fate, and even worse, befell his tormentor and presiding officer over that inglorious ‘naming ceremony’, Mohammadu Buhari. To it, in Buhari’s case, have been added sobriquets like Baba Go Slow and most widespread and frequent of all: the dullard from Daura.

I can’t but help but think that truly, there is a God in heaven.

    And, He’s LAUGHING!

Jihadists say “alahu akbar” b4 they raise their knives and slaughter their victims. I guess that makes it okay. Such a lame attempt at defending folly. Our presient is such a clown, publicly undermining and disrespecting his wife’s person and intellect. This right here is why Gender based violence will keep thriving in Africa because we have silly chauvinists and misogynist as leaders who encourage indirect gender based violence and turn a blind eye to this problem that not only effects society but amounts to billions of economic loss and continuation of underdevelopment and poverty. And the man just came from the UN general assembly, hian
That stupid and tasteless joke draws this country back like 500 years. I’m sooooo ashamed right now.

I feel for Mr Shehu. Anytime the president leaves the country, I imagine him praying Buhari doesn’t release another gaffe. That prayer wasn’t answered this time. He should have let this one ride out instead of trying to make light of such a sensitive matter.

My dear Chimamanda Adichie fans, our heroine has a new inspiring article or write up she just posted on Facebook. It’s a beautiful piece on how to raise your daughters to be feminists. I actually thought BN will post something about it. It’s amazing how this Buhari and Aisha’s saga made that piece flash a couple of times through my mind. Such an inspiring read. Thank me later for those who are yet to visit her Facebook page.

Is the article about how to raise our daughters to be real feminists or how to raise our daughters to be her own kind of feminist?

      October 15, 2016 at 8:29 am

It may mean different things to different people, but I do feel most of her points were valid for real feminists.

Is it not the same Buhari that can’t afford 20 something million naira presidential ticket but his wife was working and earning so much that she can afford those expensive bags and watches? I think he said it out of anger.

Why would a woman be free to talk talk and a man should just be matured and take it all in? His words clearly isn’t what he thinks because Aisha is running her career actively and have so many things running. She is not even cooking sef I am 100% sure of that.

Is it allowed now for a woman to go publicly and talk and a man should just sit and take it because he has to be matured? President was wrong to have said it no doubt and he isn’t leading well IMO but he isn’t sexist. It’s just a case of two fighting

He is the president of a NATION, so no, he is not allowed to speak recklessly in public. His wife stated an opinion that didn’t not disrespect her husbands position as a husband or man, or challenge his intellect. Is it too much to expect the leader of a nation to extend the same to his wife?

What’s can a Man to satisfy Nigerian!! Patience Jonathan stand beside her husband, Nigeria use her public words against her family.. Now Mr Buhari dodge him self away from blackmail that can rise from his wife, this same set of people in Nigeria crying. What’s wna problem?

      October 15, 2016 at 9:38 am

Honestly, no matter the negative things people say about Patience Jonathan. She was a good wife to Goodluck. Real ride-or-die woman who would do anything to see her family move ahead. She reminds me of a less sexy version of Lucretia, wife of Batiatus.

    • Jaden

      October 18, 2016 at 7:48 pm

Sorry, she isn’t a good wife to Goodluck. Jonathan knows nothing about her movement, she does her own thing. Right now, he knows nothing about the whole money EFCC mentioned in her name last time. A lot of things she’s involved in he is clueless about. They don’t even live in the same house. My friend is cousin to the family, so she told me. The difference is, patience had her own agenda and wanted to control everything. Aisha is just calling out her husband and his administration. She’s not trying to take over like yaradua’s wife.

This is NOT banter. I know you people live in your cocoon where womanhood is almost criminalized, but this is not your village where you can get away with your genetically ingrained disrespect to females. This is the Internet. And your comments will be thoroughly scrutinized. If you can’t take the heat, go back to your village and if you like you can marry all the females and destroy their organs with VVF. Don’t you dare come on the Internet and support the ridiculous rhetoric of your boss. We know the thought process behind that comment. And it does NOT respect women. That is why you all can’t pass a gender equality bill. That is why you threw the bill out on the premise ‘it will encourage women to be prostitutes and lesbians.’ This is not BANTER! It’s this kind of sentiments that puts women in social, religious and cultural prisons. This year alone we have seen Nigerian men leaving the topic of dispute to attack the state of a lady’s vagina or reducing it to kitchen talks. From Olumofin brothers to Wizkid to Dino Melaye to Buhari. Stop deceiving yourself you all respect women. You do not. Time, experience and your utterances have shown what you actually think of women. And my verdict is you do not respect womanhood. It’s either you use this opportunity to be introspective and question why you all think and act like you do or you get lost.

I have bashed Aisha in the past. But now I have to say, I admire her for speaking the truth. Buhari obviously cannot handle the truth. It won’t shock me if she chops slaps for this, seriously. Nigerian men always want sycophantic wives and cannot stand it if she dares to tell him the truth.
@missappleberry and @yemirae There is no such thing as ‘real’ feminism. There are
    1. Eras of feminism (1st wave, 2nd wave and 3rd wave)
    2. Types of feminism (Radical, Liberal, Choice, Equity and so on)

My people una don miss the whole point. Here is a comment by someone whom I believe captured the POINT: Here is the opinion of Dr. Umar Sani Bebeji, and I concur:

“If you think Aisha Buhari is speaking because of the hardship across the land then you are yet to understand her interest. You think she really cares about any of us?

She and her people are not “chopping” as anticipated. If the president had given her access to the till, you know she’ll care less that there is hardship anywhere. It is all about self, and her entourage. This outburst is clearly an outcome of deeply suppressed personal discontent.

Secondly, politics aside, who among you will tolerate a wife running her mouth in public this way? Is she a politician? Did we elect her do do anything on our behalf? Is she an appointed statutory adviser? Her simple job is to be a good wife to Mr. President. Give him the necessary emotional support an handle family affairs now that his hands are full, minding her damn private business as beautician and whatever the heck business she runs…and take that her daughter off our affairs and screens too.

If she cannot effectively get her husband’s full attention and manipulate him to do her bidding, then she is a disappointment to women folk. It exposes her own weakness as as wife. Sophisticated wives get their husbands to do things with excitement.
On this, I say kudos to Baba for resisting the urge to be swindled into putting personal interests of Aisha and her entourage ahead of his convictions to run Nigeria like he belongs to everybody.”

Wow…so Buhari is now a hero for banishing Aisha to the kitchen because he was trying to save Nigeria from her “chopping” our money.

This has to be one of the best EXCUSES I have read this week … ha!

Shenu that was a moronic banter. Making a statement like that alone is a dumb statement by any man especially from a President of a country. Shame on all of you and you all need to donate to womens charities. IDIOTS!!
